True Story: "Now this is the story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down and I’d like to take a minute just sit right there. I’ll tell you how I just kicked my depressed vagina to the curb (yes it’s a thing, it might be self titled.. but it’s a thing). Had my box feeling so sad for a year throughout a series of issues from Thrush to BV, STDs, abnormal bleeds you name it, all a huge combination of conditions which got me right in the fleshy bike stand and over and over and I couldn’t get my body balance right. It’s been a year or so of appointments, antibiotics and alternative therapy. Prevention, I now found is definitely the best medicine. It happens to us all and I found everything I’ve had is way more common than you think. My learnings across all of this? Get checked. keep asking questions and something doesn’t sit right with you? See someone else. Kinesiology was the best thing in my case, finding I have a condition where I can’t absorb certain minerals then having that fixed up has worked wonders for me. I’m back on track to having this box be happy, which makes my whole body and soul happy." THE FRESH PRINCE OF YOUR BOX - Vajayjay Diaries Photo via @jelena.marija
"Are you one of those people who exercise to no end without results? I want to tell you something today – it’s never going to work. In fact, it’s time to break up with the mentality that if only you exercised another 30 minutes or pushed yourself that much harder you’d see results. The effects of over-exercising can be darn straining on the body, so much so it sees it as stress. Long-term stress eventually leads to weight gain as it whacks out the balance of hormones, which sees an increase in oestrogen. And what releases oestrogen? Fat stores. So more fat stores, more oestrogen production equals more weight gain." FACT: "Safe and effective weight loss that is correctly supported by maximizing the spleen function is far more effective. The results are long lasting as the body continues to be supported since adequate vitamins and minerals are being assimilated. When the body is nutritionally satisfied, we don’t crave foods and we eat less. This also comes back to eating the right foods (remember warm and cooked foods are best). Correct food combination, exercise, adequate fluid intake and your tea provide a wonderful weight loss formula." TIP: "PAY ATTENTION WHILE YOU EAT. We eat too quickly. Eating fast makes it difficult for our bodies to recognize when they’re full. By eating slowly, stopping, looking, and listening while you eat, you can prolong your meal. Eating longer helps you feel fuller and overeat less. Start mindful eating today." FACT: "When gut health is poor, and we take antibiotics or medications it can upset the intricate balance of beneficial bacteria living in the gut. We have up to 3kg of vital bacteria living in our digestive system that does everything from assisting in digesting food right through to shaping our immunity. But when we clear out the bacteria by taking antibiotics or medicines like the pill, we leave ourselves wide open for invasion. You see, that special mix of bacteria is key to your wellness. Without it, all our defences go offline and basically, your body plays host to unwanted species moving in. Candida will be one of these ‘overgrown’ types that come in and wreak havoc within your intricate gut workings." Taken from our blog, CANDIDA – WHAT IT IS AND HOW TO RID IT Photo via hm.com
"ASK FOR HELP. Binge eating is serious, and you should not go through it alone. Talk to a friend, family member, or professional to help you stop binge eating. Women almost always binge alone. By asking someone to support you during your struggle to break the cycle, you can give yourself the extra boost you need to change your life. Binge eating isn’t simple, and it isn’t going to change overnight, but if you stick with it, and keep trying, you can stop binge eating and live a healthier life." Fact: "the health of our skin starts from within. Herbs within SMT that are helpful for digestive health are licorice root and lotus seed. Licorice root is harmonizing and nourishing. Because it is sweet in flavor it works on digestion (and that’s were it all begins!), it aids the spleen and stomach in assimilating nutrients. Sometimes when our gut health is compromised we can’t adequately utilize the nutrients we consume, because our bodies can’t happily digest. If we can’t use the fuel from food, then our bodies miss out on a nutrient level meaning we may experience more acne flare ups simply because the body is missing elements that are vital to nourish skin." TIP: "TURN OFF WORK. It’s tempting to keep your cell phone next to you all weekend long, but you need to turn it off and let it be. How can you de-stress if you’re spending Saturday and Sunday catching up on emails or getting started on upcoming projects? Say “no” to work and take two days to focus on you, your friends, and your family." "Letting problems/issues linger in your life means that the associated emotion also lingers in your life. Having closure on an issue is as important for your mind as it is for your body. The mind directly relates to the body. We get nervous – we experience butterflies in the stomach We get angry – we get hot and flustered in the head We feel scared – we feel weak and cold throughout your body We feel upset – we feel pressure in our lungs and throat There is no denying the physical correlation to experienced emotions. Whether you can relate to this concept or not, holding onto emotions from past or present events causes negative ramifications within your body. Emotions can create problems with your digestion, skin breakouts, insomnia and lack of energy. Sometimes certain issues are harder to resolve than others – but for those, you can control, do the right thing by your body and shake it off!" From our blog, OLD EMOTIONS: SHAKE THEM OFF! TIP: "Learning how to listen to your body really is the key to wellness. It speaks to you every day; it’s simply a matter of better understanding what it is saying. The period time really is an ‘event’ as far as your body sees it and is certainly a time to take it a little slower. You might feel more tired or need a little longer lie in over those few days and that’s perfectly ok! Go with it – your body is speaking to you for a reason. If you are going to exercise, go gently." "When hormones are the driving force behind your fluid retention, we need to look at the main offender – oestrogen. Excess oestrogen increases body fat. It leads to fluid retention as well as a host of other issues, including serious problems (if long-term), like cancer and more. Oestrogen is the hormone that is in full swing during the first phase of your menstrual cycle – from the time your period begins, it starts to build right through to the middle of your cycle. Progesterone is the hormone that increases during the ovulation phase – in a ‘perfect world’ this happens in the middle of your menstrual cycle. So oestrogen builds for 14 days and then drops, and progesterone then builds for 14 days and then drops, and this process is repeated for our reproductive years." "We all gain weight uniquely, and it’s not always simple or easy to discover the culprit behind our weight gain. If you’ve never thought about your hormones being responsible, then it’s time to change your mindset. So, why do your hormones lead to weight gain? Our hormones are chemical messengers that race around our body telling it what to do. We don’t have to think or instruct our hormones–it’s automatic. Our hormones control things like our moods, our menstrual cycles, our sleep, and hundreds of other processes. But how do hormones control our weight? It’s not so much that hormones ‘control’ weight, but that our weight is affected when our hormones don’t do their job adequately." "Traditionally, raw foods – especially fruit – weren’t necessarily on the menu. We roamed the land and relied on nature to provide food, and almost all wild fruits and vegetables were cooked. This was because the ancient man simply couldn’t be sure of the toxic properties of fruit and the easiest and safest way to prevent poisoning was by cooking. Ancient man had a good understanding of which plants and produce worked for therapeutic benefits and how to best combine foods as they observed the ill affects some caused. They obviously couldn’t rely on packaging to tell them the nutrient properties of food, so they listened to their bodies and recgonised that some foods were perfectly ok to consume raw and others were a disaster – sometimes causing severe illness. Fast-forward a couple of hundred years and foods have been modified to remove the ‘toxic’ nature they once possessed (via genetic modification). And before you think you’re in the all clear – just because they aren’t as toxic doesn’t mean they are ideal to eat either."
