Antonia - Aymara woman, La Paz 🇧🇴 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I don’t usually like taking candid shots of people and children as we travel. Whilst we love seeing the different faces and outfits of local people as we travel I feel it puts up more of a barrier between ‘us’ and ‘them’ and emphasises the differentness we see around the world (there’s still some old sociology chat in here 🧠) I also downright hated people taking my photo without making some effort to talk first when we were in India. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But whilst exploring La Paz on the Telefericos 🚡 we got chatting to three Aymara people in traditional dress. They laughed at our bad Spanish as we told them where we were from, where we had been in Bolivia and that we liked their city. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So I asked Antonia if I could take her photo, she smiled and said yes and was happy when I showed her this picture. I loved seeing the women in their traditional dress - the iconic bowler hats, shawls and big skirts often with some sparkle or bling thrown in for good measure. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #transcontinentalhustle#bolivia#lapaz#aymarapeople#teleferico#travel#travelling#backpacking#backpackerlife#lonelyplanet
Dinosaur footprints 🦖👣 🦕 🇧🇴⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the cliff towering above the local cement works just outside Sucre are over 5000 dinosaur footprints from 68 million years ago. What was flat lakeside back then was pushed upwards by tectonic activity and is now a 1200m high almost vertical cliff making the dinosaurs footprints tower above you! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It felt surreal and unreal to be stood in front of real dinosaur footprints especially in as unglamorous surroundings as the edge of an operational cement works... 😏 #onlyinbolivia! One of us was massively geeking out and the other enjoyed pretending to be a t-Rex... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #transcontinentalhustle#bolivia#sucre#parquecretario#dinosaurs#dinosaurfootprints#southamerica#elsur
“Kid, the next time I say, 'Let's go someplace like Bolivia,' let's go someplace like Bolivia” 🇧🇴 🏜🏇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Riding horses through the landscape that Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid found themselves in, luckily we didn’t meet such a desperate and grizzly end!
Got my friends in my backpack, my @lonelyplanet Bolivia guide in my hand and I’m ready to explore! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because after a beautiful sunrise on the Bolivian salt flats of the Salar de Uyuni you’ve got to go play with perspective, shrink your friends, or yourself and supersize your stuff! The Salar de Uyuni is over 10,000sq km’s and we had this little part of it to play with all to ourselves!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tell us what your favourite of our silly pics is! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #mylpguide#lonelyplanet#bolivia#salardeuyuni#uyuni#southamerica#elsur#backpacking#travel#backpackerlife
El Tatio Geyser field 🇨🇱 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It was -10c when we arrived at the geyser field. Unsurprising as sun hadn’t yet risen and it sits at 4320m above sea level! This is the highest geyser field in the world and the third biggest (beaten only by Yellowstone and Iceland).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We had a fun couple of hours walking around the geysers, having breakfast with an epic views and even taking a dip in a thermal pool nearby to thaw out our toes... although it wasn’t quite as hot as we’d hoped! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #ranscontinentalhustle#chile#eltatio#sanpedro#sanpedrodeatacama#geyser#geyserfield#altitude#elsur#southamerica
Vicuña⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Small town, big cacti... and even bigger views of the stars. Our reason for visiting Vincuña was to go to one of the observatories this region is famous for (apparently the best place in the Southern Hemisphere for looking at the sky!) It didn’t disappoint and in the process it blew our tiny minds 🤯 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No photos of the Milky Way and all the galaxies we saw because our camera skills aren’t that good!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #transcontinentalhustle#chile#northernchile#vicuna#cacti#smalltown
