I was a gymnast as a kid. And I’m freaking grateful for that. But it doesn’t take away the hard work I’ve put into my practice over the years. I did gym as a child, I hadn’t hit puberty yet. I loved it, I learnt to be strong and forever struggled with flexibility. But then I over did it. I trained something like 30hrs a week. I ended up resenting it. I was defined by gymnastics. So I quit. Cold turkey. ~ I didn’t move my body in any substantial way for a solid 10 years. I turned to friends and social life, I let go of myself and was a very lost little teenager. I was incredibly unfit and unhealthy (and a little chubby to be honest). ~ So when I started yoga, I was well and truely a beginner! I couldn’t hold downward dog for 1 breath. I couldn’t touch my toes. I certainly could not stand on my head or my hands! I hated child’s pose. I hated all the poses. But I loved how I felt after. So I stuck with it. I’m incredibly grateful for a sense of muscle memory. But it doesn’t take away the hard work and dedication I’ve put into myself and into my own asana practice. ~ So for all the EX- gymnasts, ballerinas, previous sporty kids... you go glen coco! I see you. Don’t let anyone take away your sparkle ✨⚡️
