“If my great grandmother didn’t teach me to weave these cedar root baskets this tradition would be lost. They are starting to dig these up at archaeological sites from 4,500 years ago so now I get another chance to learn more techniques from my elders.” -Ed Carriere Ed kept telling us how fortunate he was to learn these skills of cedar root basketry and his more recent collaboration with an archaeologist has taken his life’s work to a deeper level he never could have imagined. He may be one of the few people who has ever lived that has gotten the opportunity to examine the craftsmanship of his ancestors 4,500 years before his time and incorporate that into his own work. At 85 Ed is a master weaver but he says he feels like a student all over again getting to learn from these ancient baskets that have recently been uncovered in his ancestral lands. . . . . . . . . . . . #basket#baskets#basketry#indigenous#madebyhand#handemade#suquamish#weaving#weaversofinstagram#native#nativeamerican#salish#pacificnorthwest#craft#cedar#woodcraft#archaeology
The red threads of love: One cannot put price to love.. in Assam almost all rural households have looms and all women know how to weave, how to paint stories and leaves and flowers with fine and colourful threads spun into beautiful cloth. However, no amount of pestering ever successfully is converted into them selling. They operate on the philosophy of self-sufficiency...not profit. I got to witness this pure love--- in the rarest form of not wanting more than what it readily gives. The picture depicts the various stages of weaving. PS: I learnt weaving because that they were more than happy to teach me and feed me as well. 😊🙂🙂🙂 #incredibleindia#traveldiaries#backonroad#love#redthreadoffate#gamcha#handloom#spun#colour#weaving#travelphotography#travelandliving#roadsandkingdoms
Last night my mind would not unwind so I went to work on this piece. When I finally completed it around midnight there was peace within my soul. I was relaxed and finally able to sleep. #weaving is getting easier each time and I love the way my pieces are coming together. I still have a ways to go but #striveforprogressnotperfection #walldecor#handmade#craftymomma

Yarn haul from the Hopi reservation in Cameron, Arizona. I asked around Flagstaff for spots to buy local fiber. On my last day here, I stumbled into an excellent antique shop where they encouraged me to head an hour out of town to a trading post. This is where I’ll now be buying the majority of my worsted yarn. The sheep are raised and sheered on the reservation and the wool is processed in Nebraska. If you want to support these amazing folks with a small yarn shop please visit camerontradingpost.com to purchase their worsted and colorful yarn. If you do, dm me so we can gush over how fabulous this yarn is. (P.S. One skein is $9!! That’s as cheap as mass-produced, lower quality yarn. Get your ass over there and support these incredible farmers!)
. Si pueden pasen, y después me cuentan! 😉 Acá su cuenta @archivotextil . . Que tengan un hermoso Martes! . . . #macrame#modernmacrame#macramemakers#wallart#wallhanging#tapiz#tapestry#weaving#telar#macrameweave#macraweave#fiberart#ropeart#arte#artetextil#handmade#hechoamano#deco#decoracion#interiordesign#unidoartetextil
✨Sedona weave✨ . I grew up in a home decorated in such a way that we were always aware and proud of our Native heritage. Thinking back now, I would kill for the rugs and wall hangings my mom decorated our home with back then. Maybe nostalgia is the reason i first started weaving. Wanting to create beautiful weavings like those woven by Native women, as they sat out under the warm sun facing the mountains taking in mother nature’s beauty and honoring her. Needless to say, today our mother nature needs more love and honor then ever. . This piece for me captures the look and feel of some of my favorite wovens my mom had. More of a “new vintage” if you will, with the vintage ivory base, clay and deep teal elements. This and other new works available Sunday! . . . #modernarrow#weaving#wallhanging#freshofftheloom#nativeart#modernnative#heritage#newvintage
