I thought I’d take a minute and share my sardine weirdness. Has anyone else spent their whole life afraid of fish in cans? Even tuna has always been a struggle unless I add a good amount of red onion and pickle. And sardines have bones and skin and they look like fish 🤭. But I learned that they are really healthy, full of vitamins and minerals like vitamin D, which I’m seriously lacking this winter. They’re sustainable too since they’re pretty much at the bottom of the food chain. They’re also more mild in smell and flavor than tuna. These are wild caught and packaged in olive oil. Also, and I may be wrong, they’re lower in mercury because they’re so small. Anyway, I couldn’t face a cold salad today. So, I put these in some basic marinara with some artichoke hearts and red pepper flakes in a sauce pan on the stove and let the whole thing warm up. This meal took less than 10 minutes to make. This time of year is really hard for lots of people. Having moved back to Minnesota and the frozen north, the realities of seasonal affective disorder are pretty stark out here. Post run egg head selfie 😂 This was my last run before the Manchester half marathon back in October, can't believe I am heading to another country Saturday morning to do another one! I am seriously considering doing a marathon later in the year but its so scary thinking about running 26 miles when I know the pain after just half that distance 😂 anyone on here doing a marathon this year?
Do you supplement? 💊 When I first went vegan I had NO idea how to feed myself. I just cut out all animal products overnight and left the rest of my diet exactly the same. Whoops 🤦 I lost a lot of weight and my skin was super dry. Luckily, thanks to my masters degree in nutrition and own digilent research, I now feel qualified to provide a little vegan nutritional advice. ⠀ Whilst a vegan diet can 110% sustain your body, mind and soul, no one can deny that there are a few vital things lacking. ⠀ 🚫 DISCLAIMER: diets can lack an array of compounds, vegan or not. If your diet consists of nothing but chicken nuggets I can assure you that popping some pills isn't going to help your poor ol' self. I am soley referring to the VITAL compounds we simply cannot obtain from foods. ⠀ 💊 B12: bacteria that we used to get from eating food off the ground (yup, it's mainly found in poop, my friends). ⠀ 💊 D3: aka the sunshine vitamin. (Guess why 🌞) ⠀ 💊 Omega-3, particularly DHA (the exception, as this can be obtained from food. Mainly from fatty fish hence why dem vegan diets just don't provide. Flax seeds and walnuts provide a certain type of omega-3, ALA. Unfortunately, the omega-3 types called EPA & DHA is where it's all at!
