Veganism is not about doing zero damage to the animals; as directly or indirectly we do damage the environment and everything on it. Veganism is about reducing this damage as much as you can possible can in your daily life. The first step is stop consuming or wearing animals. To that point every vegan agrees. After that is all up to your ethics, possibilities and knowledge. There are no better vegans or more virtuous than others. Made a bacon n cheddar grilled cheese sandwich 🤤 1 slice of Dave’s killer bread, 1 slice of Ezekiel bread, violife cheddar cheese, blode kuh porcini walnut cheese, tempeh bacon, and some Crimini mushrooms. Cooked in a little bit of earth balance butter ! All ingredients were organic except the violife cheese! #govegan#goorganic
Delicious chickpea salad open faced sandwich 🤗 the salad was soo good! Mashed chickpeas with, chopped veggies like pickles, celery, red bell pepper and added mustard, a bit of vegan mayo, and some other spices for taste! So delicious and protein packed 😚👏🌱
I can’t get over the colors in this vegan take on risotto i made! ⭐️❤️ while it’s fun to make classic dishes like this one and put our own spin on it, i think it’s important to respect and learn the cultural history. So here’s some things you may not know about risotto that i found in my research before making! • short grain rice varieties began appearing in Southern Italy and Spain via Arab merchants in the Middle Ages • it was really only the Italian wealth that could afford to have it regularly, but it eventually spread to the masses and became more accessible • once rice spread to northern Italy, it was in Milan (who was previously under Spanish rule, hence the similar paella dish) that “risotto alla Milanese” was introduced • the hearty, creamy dish traditionally highlights short grain rice, some form of stock, Parmesan, butter, and various spices • these ^ basic components are largely still used, but there are now endless variations of risotto made in Italy and around the world . I saw #whitecastle#vegansliders 🍔 at the store and just had to try them. Have you been to a White Castle? . When I was in my late teens, in the Midwest, we'd stay at the bar until closing (1am) and then go get White Castle. When they started carrying them at stores in the freezer section, I never got to try them because I was already vegetarian. I was excited to try this vegan version and I tried to recreate the original as best I could with grilled onions and some #fieldroast#chaocheese but they just aren't the same. Maybe the buns are the same but the burgers are not square and don't have holes in them and of course don't have meat in them well what did I expect? I had it for lunch with veggies, beans and my home made sunflower cheese (recipe posted a few images ago!). A vacation day- grandmom and me. She tried roasted chickpeas (hearing her crunch is adorable, making her thirsty to drink water is my aim). She enjoyed my homemade gnocchi, which I know how to do per her expert advice (I also added buckwheat flour which is why they are brown). We played 2 games of checkers, which was a challenge at first because she kept forgetting what color player she was & rules, but we were patient and persistent I watched her think deeply about each move- she did great & made us laugh! And then we watched Murder She Wrote while asking each other questions and discussion “peace of mind”. Grandmom sings a song when I leave “I hate to see you go...” not sure if it’s a real song, but she melts my heart. She IS my heart. Give me all the roasted root vegetables... this has become my go-to. I eat meat and dairy free while my family does not have any restrictions... it gets hard making 2 meals sometimes so to make things easier I will make a big batch of this and eat it for lunch all week. This week: roasted beets, onion, turnips, parsnips and carrots. And add to quinoa.
Because cold Tuesdays call for #noods. And because it’s January and because that undoubtedly means there are heaps of cold Tuesdays ahead of us, I give you the #ramennoodlebowl formula. Because everyone should have the formula for a good nood. 🤭 METHOD Start with a good veggie broth. Add seasonings like soy sauce, tamari, mirin, garlic, ginger. Simmer for a few minutes to let the flavours develop. Add veggies like broccoli, bok choy, carrots, spinach, sprouts. Add your noods, which can be anything at all: spaghetti, udon, ramen, clear rice sticks. Add in your final flavours like lime, miso paste, sesame oil, herbs like mint or Thai basil. So here are a few faves: CREAMY MISO = I cup of veggie broth + slice of ginger, tablespoon of tahini, tablespoon miso, teaspoon of tamari. SWEET SESAME GARLIC = 1 cup veggie broth + 3 slices of ginger, 1/2 sliced garlic clove, 1/2 teaspoon of maple syrup, dash of sesame oil, squeeze of lime SPICY RED CURRY 1 cup veggie broth + 1 teaspoon red curry paste, 1/2 sliced clove of garlic, 1 slice of ginger, 1/3 teaspoon of tamari #houseofstarling#veganfamily
