What fresh things are you excited to eat this summer? 🥬🍅🍑🍓🌽 . We may have a little apartment but we’re super fortunate that there’s enough space outside to have a mini garden! 🌱 . Being on the second story, there’s a flat roof outside that we can potentially use as a space for planters which I’m STOKED for 🙌🏼 . A little concerned they could blow off in a thunderstorm though? 😬 . Anyways so far we have my green onions that have transitioned from little mason jars on the windowsill to dirt, and some rhubarb from Zach’s dad! . And I’m on the lookout for some herbs and cherry tomatoes 🍅 . I know it’s not a lot, but it’s SO satisfying to grow something whether it’s food or a plant that just makes you happy 😊 . And I personally really enjoy growing things I can eat so this will hopefully all work out nicely for that! . Are you gardening at all this summer? 🤷🏻♀️
It's officially sunflower season! Biodiversity begets biodiversity. Two years of filling a bird feeder brought plenty of birds and squirrels, which in turn scattered an overwhelming amount of sunflower seeds all over the yard. This year, I noticed hoards of black caterpillars all over the sunflowers. A couple weeks later, my backyard is officially a butterfly garden, with dozens of bordered patch butterflies joining the mix of swallowtails, monarchs, and others I have yet to learn the name of. In turn, they'll pollinate a ton of plants around the neighborhood. You're welcome, neighbors!

🍃How about another post on Asian greens? They are so tasty! This is Purple Lady Bok Choy. While we have grown the dwarf Bak Choy I posted about the other day for multiple years, this is the first year we have grown Purple Lady. Her leaves should deepen to a dark, almost black purple that will contrast her lime green stalks. This too is a small (yet not dwarf) variety that should reach 6-7". ❓So now I have a question for you, Do you enjoy food more when it is pretty? I absolutely do. My husband could careless as long as it tastes good. If a dish doesn't quite look how I think it should he says " it doesn't matter what shape it is only if it tastes good. " Then my kids repeat him. I guess it is a blessing that they aren't picky, especially being gluten free, but I do appreciate a beautifully prepared meal. The beauty just adds to the good flavors.😊 So what do you think?
Time to move out! ☀️☁️#balconygarden 🌱 Sooo I've finally started to bring my plants outside. Some plants I still keep inside during night though. It's safe to bring most plants outside when there is no more danger of frost and temperatures are above 10°C/50°F. How's your garden growing? 👨🏻🌾🌿
