Living above the City (2018) Undergraduate Thesis | KU Design Studio 8 The rising land price and population density of Seoul has already reached an excessive state, displacing people of middle and low level to suburban areas. Unfortunately, several attempts to solve the issue by the government haven't work effectively yet. The project suggests affordable and accessible social housing in the center of Seoul, beyond the exisitng layer that belongs to industrial and business district. Furthermore, the project expects a remarkable synergy which can be created along with urban waterfront, Cheonggaecheon. By overlaying housing blocks upon the city, the inactive stream can be regenerated and work as an outstanding environment for the residents. Eventually, new layers of housing units will be naturally combined to the city, working as urban infrastructure.
Clip from my previous project under @ebrahim_poustinchi studio Mech[animal]site-less-ness In New York a city within a city lives. District 14 is completely invisible to the outside world and experiencing a accelerated timeline, effected by the extreme lack of supply and support from the outside world. The remaining inhabitants have begone to establish a new way of living., they now need to supply the essentials of living in a world where they cannot benefit from importation of supplies. Struggling to pass by, the distract begins to fall apart, riots break in a search for power over the district. Infrastructure is crumbling, buildings crashing over, wildlife is growing back into the city. In a idea for a civil head power of the district one man created a universal AI. The AI would supply and control the needs of the city, limiting the power of any single individual. To house the AI the District re-purposed a once destroyed military convoy vehicle MH-64. Using parts from the old factories inside the district they were able to create a diverse structure that is capable of moving through out the district. MH-64 is equipped with a water filtration and tanking system, an exterior projection system, and a kitchen and automated delivery system. Inside the district MH-64 docks into various infrastructure that has been manipulated to serve the city. Billboards act as projection screens, factories are used as water storage, and parks are used as mobile food bank docks.
Located at the heart of downtown Vancouver just steps from historic Gastown District, 402 Dunsmuir will maintain engagement with the city’s past while propelling it into the future through the design of a social space for innovation customized for a Global Tech Firm.
This summer, the New York Botanical Garden has mounted its largest-ever exhibition, “Brazilian Modern: The Living Art of Roberto Burle Marx,” on view through September 29. It’s a “horticultural tribute” to the Modernist garden designer—three gardens designed by his Miami-based landscape-architect protégé, the (aptly named) Raymond Jungles. Palms, bromeliads, elephant’s-ears, staghorn ferns, water lilies: Burle Marx’s favorite plants are here, summoning the tropics for visitors eager to escape New York for an hour or two. Read more about Burle Marx and his legacy via the link in our bio. (📷: @NYBG) #newyork#citygarden#urbandesign#nybg#burlemarx Location: New York Botanical Garden
Congratulations to @sekisuihouseaustralia and RobertsDay’s Brisbane team for the release of the Ripley Town Centre Masterplan Vision! The 1.5 bn Town Centre caters to the growing Ripley Valley with a major retail and commercial hub, education and health quarters as well as recreational, community and sporting facilities. By 2036, Ripley Valley will be home to approximately 133,000 new residents and the Town Centre will directly deliver 20,000 jobs. The Town Centre has been designed by RobertsDay for Sekisui House around the concept of the 20 minute neighbourhood; radically embedding walking, cycling and public transport to deliver a true low-carbon mixed use centre. The detailed integration of commercial, residential and landscape takes a fine grained approach to deliver seamless access to key facilities for future residents, workers and visitors. RobertsDay Brisbane has been responsible for the urban design, masterplanning and landscape design, led by Studio Director Craig Christensen and team.
