When I scheduled this pass of Indonesia, my time was bracketed before and behind. Ultimately, realizing I'd likely be back at some point with company, I penciled in only a short single day for Bali. To say that the sneak preview lived up to the hype is an understatement. I've tried to limit each day's pictures to only the Instagram limit lately, but in this case, the day was so full of spectacular scenery that I had to choose between breaking it up between a trio of posts or posting just the short set and adding supplementary pictures on Facebook. I've opted for the latter. 😉 * Almost the run of Bali is covered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. As far back as the 9th century, farmers crafted a set of canals that would allow them to channel waters from the high mountain to feed their farms below. Today, they continue to feed the terraced rice fields of Jatiluwih, splitting water evenly to the farms below, and allowing Bali to persist as one of the most prolific producers of rice and other produce in the region. In turn, those farmers would do everything in their power to ensure the weather persisted to grant their yields - building temples to thank the Hindi Gods above for the bounties they continued to bestow. Ulun Danu above on Lake Bratan, whose waters feed the system of channels below. Pura Taman Ayun, the man-made island temple that serves as a sanctuary midway along the island. And, finally, the stunning Tanah Lot, the coastal temple built atop a crumbling plain of volcanic tuff which plays host to some spectacular sunsets. * #puratamanayun#ulundanu#tanahlot#jatiluwih#riceterrace#temple#bali#indonesia#unesco
