Vin de Noix is a traditional homemade French liquor made from foraged green walnuts - ideally picked on June 24th. #vindenoix is a traditional #french#liquor made from green walnuts. Often made at home from #foraged walnuts, the walnuts must be picked in late June, before the outer shell of the #walnut begins to harden. #tradition says that the best time to pick the walnuts is on June 24th, the Catholic feast day of St. Jean. The walnuts are then chopped and mixed with eau de vie (a clear fruit brandy), red wine, and sugar, and then left to macerate for at least 40 days. Once the walnuts are removed, the flavors will continue to concentrate and develop in the coming years. Due to it's rich flavor and high alcohol content, Vin de Noix is consumed as an #aperitif, served at room temperature in small glasses. 📸: Aimery Chemin

After fleeing the city of Sinjar, Iraq, Amani and 17 members of her extended family arrived at the Bajed Kandala Yazidi Displacement Camp on August 12, 2014. For the first two years she lived in the camp Amani recevied almost no education. At the end of 2016 she was able to attend a makeshift school within the camp and resume her studies. When asked what she wants to do when she is older her response was simple, "I want to have a family, an animal and live in peace."
Levi, Finland (Jan.19.2019) — It was a surprise and a treat to meet this couple who ran a Finnish restaurant together for 14 years. The wife seems happy and she interacts with the guests. Meanwhile, her husband sings when the dessert arrives. Memorable and unique experience. Really appreciate these moments.
No words will ever be enough to describe this experience. My sister and I were alone in this place for over two hours. No sound but the wind sending snow everywhere. Yet, you could almost hear the echoes of pain and sadness. This place will forever stand as a reminder of what should have never been and hopefully will never be again. Love your fellow humans and never spread this type of destruction or discrimination. To do so would be an insult to the memory of so many wonderful lives cut short but mindless hate. . . . #auschwitz#auschwitzbirkenau#poland#traveltolearn#girlslovetravel#neverforget#explorepoland#spreadlove

Always important to match your outfit to your situation... We hope you enjoy your visit to Sweden’s oldest town, Sigtuna @visitswedeninuk #repost @abearcalledpaddington with @get_repost ・・・ You see a lot of red houses in Sweden 🇸🇪 it's called Falun red (Falu rödfärg), a deep red paint that is not just a color, it's Swedish cultural history. The pigment originated from various copper mines in Sweden, most well known is the mine at Falun, in the province of Dalarna. The earliest evidence of the use of falun red dates from the 16th century. Falun red was commonly used on smaller wooden mansions, where it was intended to imitate buildings with brick facades. In Swedish cities and towns wooden buildings are often painted with falun red and it is still widely used in the countryside. ————————————————————— #sweden#visitsweden#sigtuna#stockholm#redcottage#falurödfärg#destinationsigtuna#falunred#traveltolearn#europe#europetravel#paddingtonbear#paddington#abearcalledpaddington#travelingbear#history
Runa is one of six children and the only in her family that is currently attending the makeshift school that exists in the Bajad Kandala displacement camp in Iraqi Kurdistan. Her siblings are not forced to attend and several have tried to find work rather than resume their education since being forced to flee Sinjar. When asked why Runa still comes to school she responded, "I want to learn so I can get a job and leave Iraq with my family."
January 19, 2019. My second read in 2019. I bought this at Bletchley Park itself during my trip in September. Bletchley Park is such a fascinating place for me. During its wartime operations, it was a hectic place of secrecy, hush-hush, nobody-knew-what-the-next-person-was-doing, super stressful, long-hour kind of work environment full of genius and talented people. And the things they had to do to communicate those days! Some was downright bizarre! They even had homing pigeons to send out messages to and from the battlefield! They had like a special brigade just to train and manage these pigeons! To me, Bletchley was like the stuff of spy movies (actually, Ian Fleming used to work there too, so there you go). But they’re real! When I was there, they had a book signing event in the afternoon. By an author called Dermot Turing. I was stupid enough not to Google him at that time (I thought the name was just a coincidence 🤦🏽♀️) otherwise I would’ve known that he’s the nephew of the most famous of codebreakers!!! Arghhhh! I missed a wefie opportunity! PS: In case you don’t know, his uncle was Alan Turing who broke the German Enigma code with his creation called the Bombe machine (see, it’s all so James Bond-ish!). The Bombe later became the basis of the modern computer we use these days.
Tell yourself: The comeback is always stronger than the setback. You will be exactly as happy as you decide to be. It doesn't matter what's been written in your story so far, its how you fill up the rest of the pages that counts ❤️❤️❤️ What are your plans for the weekend? Better plan something for yourself and relax. This is your time to re-generate your energy. Stay positive! #heywhereu

We visited the Paracas National Reserve as our first stop there. So much to learn! The now immense dessert used to be covered in water; they use salt to make the roads super eco friendly; the red beach is red due to volcanic minerals (but no more volcanoes due to the tectonic plate shifts); those snails are millions of years old! . . #traveltolearn#vacation#peru#natureswonder

Sharing an inspirational reminder: "Strength doesn't come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn't. Eventually you'll end up where you need to be, with who you're meant to be with, and doing what you should be doing. Patience is the key." #heywhereu
Less than two weeks today and we will be back in Colombia and this time we will be making home and exploring living life as a family in this exceptionally wild and beautiful country. We are looking forward to spending more time with the artisan groups we work with and the challenges they face as producers of slow made crafts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Follow our visual journey through Colombia and its rich and diverse cultures and crafts HERE.
Day 73: over two months. not three months. Still a short enough amount of time that when people ask me how long I’ve been gone I want to say 2 1/2 months instead of just 2 months but actually that’s not totally true yet but I want to round up because it hasn’t been “long enough” yet. It’s like when you’re a kid and someone asks you your age. It’s always 10 1/2 or almost 11. I wonder when I won’t care anymore. I sat out and watched the stars again tonight. When the sky is clear I have to see them. I remember looking at them when I was young. I had those glow in the dark stars on the ceiling of my bedroom. I’ve always felt magic in them. They ground me. I feel peace. I look up and I think of all the things I want to accomplish. All the things I want to share. All that I’m capable of. My thoughts sparkle like the stars. They sparkle for a moment. Burn out. Shoot away. Grow brighter. Take a shape. Light up the sky. I realize I am not attached to any of them. I don’t need to complete a thought. Many die before they are complete. It’s okay. I am getting more and more comfortable with not protecting my self. The result isn’t always what I want. And I don’t win every time. But I keep trying. You see it’s easy for me to notice the things I don’t try so hard to do even though I want to - become fluent in Spanish, finish reading a book, play an instrument, learn to shuffle, etc etc - but I notice right now, what about all the things I never give up on? Living a life of truth, getting uncomfortable, being bold enough to ask for and go after everything I truly want, sharing my gifts. Let go of the small details. Drop the critique. Where are you winning? // // // // #travel#traveldiary#travelwriter#travelersnotebook#traveltolearn#worldtraveler#writer#writing#journal#diary#inspiration#motivation#honesty#vulnerability#iquitmyjob#nomad#wander#wanderlust#truth#authenticity#solotravel
Today is the feast of Sant’Antonio Abate. He is the patron saint of pets and animals, as well as butchers and those who process pork. Maybe you can see the little pig at his feet? #saporiesaperi#lifeinitaly
