Don’t you just love jobs like these ones! Digging out Vinca major. This plant was a recommended plant years ago and given away by government nurseries to the home buyer to plant in their new garden! This aggressive plant takes over as you can see and a nightmare when it gets into native bushland and reserves. #tidycanberragardens #smallgardenspecialist #greengoldnursery #conservation #antique_perennials #nativeflowers_australia #hallvillage #globalsisters

The Jacarandas are out in flower now. This beautiful tree can only make one gaze at it in awe by its beauty. Sadly this tree is unsuitable to grow in Canberra so if you want one in the garden you’ll have to move. #tidycanberragardens #smallgardenspecialist #jacarandas #gardenmaintenance #womengardeners #canberragardeners #hallvillage #globalsisters

Lou by the pond. Five years ago I decided to put a small pond in the front garden for the birds to drink from, and every day I am delighted to see something different. I’ve seen Yellow robins, Blue wrens, Eastern spinebills, Flycatchers, the Hooded robin, Red robins large parrots such as the Crimson rosella, Corella, Sulpha Crested Cockatoo and Galah #tidycanberragardens #smallgardenspecialist #canberrabirds #gardenmaintenance #womengardeners #canberragardeners #hallvillage #globalsisters
Who will water while I’m on holidays? An ingenious product to help plants survive transplanting and get established. By mixing a small amount into the soil media at planting these crystals hold water for the roots to access. Ideal to use in outdoor potted plant mixes, when transplanting seedlings and plants. These crystals will breakdown after about 6 months but will ensure your plant makes it through the summer. #tidycanberragardens #smallgardenspecialist #gardenmaintenance #womengardeners #canberragardeners #hallvillage #globalsisters
Prevent unnecessary evaporation with mulching the garden bed. Ideas for mulch; pine chip, pine flake, hardwood chip, tan bark, lucerne hay, straw, sugarcane mulch, pebbles, compost, or gravel. Mulching conserves water, saves money and cares for the environment. #tidycanberragardens #smallgardenspecialist #doginthegarden #gardenmaintenance #womengardeners #canberragardeners #hallvillage #globalsisters
Tips on surviving the drought. Have you ever thought why is the soil dry when you have just watered? Or, why is my pot plant dry when I just watched the water run out of the drainage holes? Soil media can become hydrophobic if it has dried out for an extended period. This means water cannot penetrate the soil particles and doesn’t soak in so the roots can absorb it. Saturate or other similar products aid in water penetration to combat this problem. Trachelospermum jasminoides or commonly known as Chinese star jasmine. Sweetly scented plant that can be grown as a climber, ground cover or as a potted specimen. This plant is also very forgiving to neglect. One of my all time favourites that can be grown anywhere.
