R E Y K J A V I K • I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again...I ❤️ vibrant street art especially in dull, grey cities. DONT get me wrong, Reykjavik is a great city. But the weather (at least when I was there) was very dull, overcast, and blah. But there are colorful murals everywhere you look! And they really help brighten up the city. • Modern graffiti really started in Philly and NYC in the late 1960s. But street art didn’t gain popularity in Iceland until the 1990s. • In 2015, Iceland Airwaves and Urban Nation launched a music festival/street art collaboration. Street artists and musicians from around the world were brought to Iceland for the event. Artists were paired with musicians and tasked with creating a mural inspired by one of the musician’s songs. You can still find some of these pieces in Reykjavik! • This pic is the exterior of Braud&co. I know it’s not Thursday, but this week you get a bonus #thursdaytreat Don’t miss their pastries if you are in Reykjavik! So dang yummy!
