One of my favorite product lines that Nike has ever released. An absolute beast of a debut with the Air Max Plus 1 (on the top) - this shoe came out nearly 21 years ago and it's still selling out in various colorway. That being said, the Air Max Plus 2 (On the bottom) has NEVER retroed (as far as I know) and I really don't understand why. I wasn't a fan of most of the colorway of the 2 but feel like a lot of dope colorways would exist if it were retroed. What do y'all think? Would you buy the air Max plus 2 if it retroed?
I was doing some research on this card the other day and came across an interesting story. This exact card was sold on eBay as raw (ungraded) and somehow managed to pull in about $3.7k. Seller made the claim he found it in a box and just wanted to unload it as fast as possible and pretty much acted ignorant to its graded value. He also went to great lengths to try to prove its authenticity, but most collectors weren’t buying the story or the attempts. . Grading this *authentic* 1952 Mickey Mantle in nearly any condition would cost anywhere from $250-$1k and would result in a markup of (at the very least) $7k-$10k (on top of the $3.7k). Nearly every collector in the discussion claimed the card was fake and the story highly unlikely. . It’s believed the seller bought a reproduction, ‘aged’ the card with coffee stains, bending and creasing, then lied of his knowledge of its actual history. He then pushed the story on eBay and secured a quick $3.7k flip. No one had any sympathy for the buyer....’he should have known better’. . Everyone in the discussion stated the importance of grading and the importance of third party verification. In any case - the same will apply with shoes in the near future thanks to Shoemetrics 💯 . . . . . . . #thesneakersavant#thesneakersavantremembers#shoemetrics#shoemetricsflaws#graded#gradedgoesformore#sneakergrading#sneakercollector#sneakercollectors#blowoutcardsforum#baseballcards#mickeymantle#1952#1952topps#1952toppsmantle#igsneakerheads#igsneakercommunity#niketalk#ntdenim#teacherdadswag
(1) So. I posted this pair of Vans X The Shoe Surgeon x Life SF shoes close to three years ago. It was something I came upon at a local thrift store and paid a whopping $18 + tax. I had never even heard of The Shoe Surgeon or Life SF and thought it was just a unique pair of shoes in my size. The shoes were hard as rocks - not really wearable. So I started doing a bit of research and found that The Shoe Surgeon had a nice little following and he was kind of a big deal. I posted a pic of them on IG shortly after I found the shoes, asking if he remembered them and it looks like he didn’t see that I tagged him in the post, but there was no response. No mind. I know he’s a busy dude. I then posted them on Reddit and some guy said he knew @theshoesurgeon and would ask him for me. Apparently, according to this random dude, @theshoesurgeon confirmed they were legit and from 2008. I subsequently listed the shoes on eBay...I didn’t get much interest but some dude reached out to me and said ‘bro these are probably worth $5,000 DO NOT SELL THEM FOR ANY LESS THAN THAT.’ So I pulled the auction and put the shoes away until I could figure out something better to do with them…to be continued... . . . . . #thesneakersavant#thesneakersavantremembers#shoemetrics#shoemetricsflaws#gradedgoesformore#sneakergrading#theshoesurgeon#vans#lifesf#stewedscrewedandtattooed#igsneakerheads#igsneakercommunity#customshoes#customs#vanssk8hi#1of1#hypeshoes#sneakerpreservationsociety
An oldie but goodie. I've heard from a few people 'I'm getting tired of seeing glue stains.' The fact of the matter is, glue stains are the number 1 cause of lower grades. Like almost every single pair whatsoever has inconsistent glue stains. This pair - some KD VIII EXT with Vachetta leather - came directly from Nike looking like this. Tell me - with a retail of $199 - you wouldn't be pissed off receiving these in the mail? I'm not big on knockin' someone else's work - and I know how difficult it is to glue the midsole onto a pair of shoes - but this is absurd. I have yet to see a single pair of these 'premium leather' shoes that aren't tainted by the sloppy glue job. That being said - all y'all @easymoneysniper collectors out there - wouldn't you pay a premium for a perfect pair of Vachetta tans? . . . . . . . #thesneakersavant#thesneakersavantremembers#shoemetrics#shoemetricsflaws#graded#gradedgoesformore#sneakergrading#nike#nikekd#nikekd8#nikekd8ext#vachettatan
(So...this is kind of a long story - skip to the bottom if you want to get right to the point). I went on a bit of a bender like 4 or 5 years ago...and I bought like 20 pairs of 'Handmade in Germany' @kangaroossneakers . I saw some #niketalk post and just lost it...I had to have these. The quality on the leather was pretty luxurious and the silhouettes were sleek European...right up my alley. So through some internet sleuthing, I met this dude who lived a short distance from the Kangaroos factory in Germany and he was willing to proxy a bunch of pairs for me. He bought a bunch, packed them up and shipped them out to me and like a week later I was sitting on twenty pairs of #roos. A bunch of different colors and a bunch of different sizes and a few different models. Somehow or another I ended up with a pair of @overkillshop Friends and Family 'Blue Grapes'... numbered k/10 in a wooden box. If you know anything about this shoe, you know there are only 10 official pairs in existence...and a handful of other pairs made for friends and family of the Overkill shop (who kangaroos did the collaboration with). So maybe 20 pairs, tops. Probably 2 per size. Here is what I'm getting at...if this were a pair of Nikes or Jordans and only 10-20 existed in the world - we'd be seeing astronomical prices. Like $10k and above. But being that this is a European brand and not all that popular amongst sneaker elitests, the highest offers I've received on this pair (quite possible the ONLY DS pair of size 44s in the world) have barely been above retail - why? What are your thoughts? (PS there are glue stains 😂) (PPS - when you see these on GOAT, I’m the dude who listed them for $1.1k) . . . . . . . #thesneakersavant#thesneakersavantremembers#shoemetrics#shoemetricsflaws#gradedgoesformore#sneakergrading#overkillshop#overkill#kangaroo#kangaroos#kangarooscoilr1#bluegrapes#redgrapes#grapes#sneakercollector#madeingermany#handmade#handmadeingermany#igsneakercommunity
Check this out...this is an early version of an idea I had for sneaker preservation - I wanted to create custom molds out of plastic for each pair of shoes. So my cousin and I built this wooden box and glued/taped the pegboard to the top. We sealed it up pretty good (we used plastic on the inside to make sure it was airtight), then drilled a hole on the side of the box big enough for an industrial strength vacuum cleaner. After the box was completed, I bought a bunch of different (clear) plastic squares from tap plastics and turned my home oven up to about 500 degrees and put the plastic in. I waited until the plastic was almost melting, pulled out it as quickly as possible and laid it directly on top of the shoe on the box...I hit the switch on the vacuum and let the plastic ‘mold’ to the shoe as the vacuum sucked the plastic down. It didn’t come out as nice as I would have liked - that’s why I went the way of an engineered box - but an interesting experiment nonetheless. . . . #thesneakersavant#thesneakersavantremembers#shoemetrics#shoemetricsflaws#gradedgoesformore#sneakergrading#sneakerpreservation#sneakerpreservationsociety#sneakercollector#sneakercollection#niketalk#ntdenim#vans#damndaniel#vanssk8hi#vanshosoi
