Got pins? Spent the day scouting deeper in bedding areas through some gnarly swamps and wide open oak ridges. The best thing about living within an hour of over 60,000 acres of public land is there always more to explore! @onxhunt
Some live babies ❤️ for the haters, no they arent killed for my art. They are loved and cherished. I get attachments to every animal i own. So please if you see a taxidermy page posting live animals please dont get the idea they are killing for their "art" because im sure most taxidermist and vultures do NOT kill animals. Unless they are hunters. I do use passed animals and pets for my work. Im an ethical vulture and i do not kill animals for art. Stop being rude to vultures. #taxidermy#vulturecultureart#mice

I would be nothing without this man right here. • Short and simple I live this life because of my dad introducing me to it from the youngest age possible. He taught me to love and respect nature. He taught me that we kill to eat ourselves not for selfish pride. Without you dad I would t be the man or outdoorsman I am today. • Love you Dad, #happyfathers day!

This is Spartacus! I bought this tarantula mount a few years back but the bland frame always bugged me. So... I decided to try a DIY vintage style heres what I did and how it turned out. First, I knew I wanted to darken the wood but I don't own any wood stains so had to come up with something else. I tried coffee and boiling water at first but after several layers it was taking forever to build up the colour and I was getting worried about saturating the wood too much. So I decided to mix some brown acrylic and #modgepodge with the coffee to create a stronger colour without loosing the detain in the wood or damaging the frames integrity. It also reduced the stickiness of the coffee and sealed the wood from further moisture. I lightly brushed it over the wood surface to achieve a dark wood finish using a hair dryer inbetween coats to help speed up the drying time. I then taped off the glass and sides, leaving exposed the wood around the glass and a border along the top side. I then used gold #rubandbuff on the wood left exposed without tape to add a vintage style trim. That was it, done! Back in it's original place, now matching the surrounding decor :) #art, #diy#crafts#upcycle#coffee#acrylic#taxidermy#odd#alternative#tarantula#dead#preserved#spider#goth
"We have heard the sightings have increased in the past few years. Have you seen any?" I asked dipping a dumpling in chilli sauce. "Yeah. I see it from this window behind you. It crosses this spring on its way. It moves around in its territory. I have seen it many times," said the man on the counter at Bodh cafe in Chicham. I got interested and asked,"Does it come these days?" "No, no. Only in winters. When the land is covered knee deep in snow," he replied. That shattered any faint hopes that I had of sighting a snow leopard in the month of May in Spiti. A day later we travelled to the village of Komic, the highest in the world that can be reached by a motorable road. A visit to Tangyud monastery was awaiting us. The monastery has two buildings. The one that meets the eye when you enter the village and another one opposite to it, the old building. It's believed to have been built in early fourteenth century. I parted a thick curtain to enter through the door it was guarding. As soon my eyes adjusted to the dimly lit interior it had me flabbergasted. In front of me, from less than a meter away the world's most elusive cat was staring straight at me. I could count the rosettes on its fur and could even touch them. Strangely though, the joy of having seen a snow leopard vanished instantly in the air that filled the room. It was dead. It's not-so-good taxidermy made it look inelegant. Mockable even. "How old is it?" I asked. "Eight hundred years, may be. No one really knows," replied the monk watching over the monastery at the time. "No one even knows if it was killed or found dead," he added. I had also seen a taxidermy of a blue sheep hanging at the entrance of the old monastery at Dhankar. Nobody knew how old it was or where it came from. It was surprising to find the dead of these animals exhibited in old monasteries. It's unclear as to who or what started this tradition and what purpose it served. Nonetheless it lives on. *Continued in comments* #snowleopard

From my latest adventure at the National Museum of Qatar in #doha. The building is beautifully crafted in the shape of desert rose quartz, a naturally occuring and increasingly difficult to find stone in the middle east. The exhibits show the history of #qatar from when Qatar was under water, to its economic success in trade and agriculture, to present day industry. The first few exhibits are a taxidermy haven because of the preserved wildlife that is/was found here. I'll be going back to this museum again before my time is up here; it was so pleasant and educational!! There's just so much to see!! . #nationalmuseumofqatar#taxidermy#history#art#middleeasternculture#vultureculture
