Well, that was an interesting shopping trip... Am trying to choose products that do not contain palm oil or any of its derivatives. Easier said than done! However, @peppercornnatfoods were super helpful and I've decided to give this @friendlysoapltd shampoo bar a try - less packaging too 😊 I have frizz-prone, fine, curly hair so am interested to see how I get on. If anyone has any palm oil free tips, please share - I am a newbie to this! And if you're not aware of what palm oil is and its environmental impact, Google palm oil orangutans. #notopalmoil#nopalmoilplease#sustainability#sustainablebeauty#shoplocal#justask#smallchanges#smallchangesleadtogreatthings
In Germany there are containers for the collection of unwanted clothes (I don’t say ‘used’ or ‘old’ on purpose) in every neighborhood. Most people think that the clothes will be donated to people in need. The reality is the different. Most containers are run by companies that sell the clothes to third world countries like Africa or South America. Local textile companies there cannot compete with the low prices and huge amounts of clothes from privileged people like us. It results in unemployment and closing of small, local stores. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💫 Today is my lucky day. I have found these winter boots while casually walking to the cafe where we had delicious breakfast. They were placed on one of the collection containers (not inside), so someone who would be interested can just grab them for free. I strongly believe we should extend the life cycle of a product like this as long as we can. Of course they don’t look brand new, but if you take your time to give them a proper clean up they will look just fine and will fulfill their purpose. We should value our resources and stop throwing them away as if it never meant anything in the first place. And if you really don’t need something anymore (happens to me all the time while decluttering), find ways to repurpose it or give it a new home and make someone else happy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With this in mind I am much more open to second hand and bringing stuff home that I have found on the streets. Do you feel the same or are you still reluctant to take second hand items home? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀————————————————————————#minimalism #minimalismus#minimalist#simplicity
School kids protest? Protest what? On LinkedIn (connect with me Karl W Feilder), I posted about how school children in the UK went on strike to protest that the government isn’t doing enough about #climatechange. While it is useful to highlight that nearly all governments have failed over the last 27 years in their quest to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the kids today didn’t actually seem to have a full grasp of either the problem or the solutions. One kid on BBC Radio 4 was asked, “What do you want the government to do ?” His answer was... “Well, um, they should just do stuff." I would suggest that using children (who may or may not understand the issues or options) as spokespeople, is at best unsavoury and at worst exploitative. Climate change has been caused by business decisions and better business decisions are now required. Kids can influence that as consumers, but until kids get seats at the board room table, neither they nor the governments can make those much-needed business decisions. #karlfeilder#schoolprotests#imnotanenvironmentalist
Feeling a bit lost for inspiration? We got you 💫 Already a month and a half into 2019 and we’ve been working super hard and have so many exciting things planned, which we really want to do all at once but occasionally you have to take a step back and appreciate that Rome wasn’t built in a day and be proud of how far you’ve come ✨ Patience and perseverance really are key, don’t over complicate your goals and as long as you keep moving forward, one step at a time, you will get there 💚 Have a lovely weekend beauts!

[Ad - Gifted] It would be disingenuous to bang on about how we all need to take climate change seriously without trying to do something about it myself. Over the past few months I’ve made a lot of changes, including dramatically cutting down the amount I drive, but one of the things I still really struggle with is packaging, especially when it comes to skincare/haircare. I actually came across @whiterabbitskincare whilst putting together a cruelty free guide to UK beauty brands for my blog and noticed at the time that they only use fully recyclable and often recycled packaging. I have extremely dry and acne-prone skin (despite almost reaching my thirties - wtf) which always makes me hesitant about compromising on quality for say, zero waste or cruelty free…. I’m going to be giving these goodies a try over the next month or so and am hoping that they tick both boxes. I’ll let you know how I get on! (If you want to try for yourself, I have a 15% off discount code. Just pop “BETHAN15” in at the checkout)
For me, living sustainably doesn’t mean full restriction or the demonization of plastic. For me, it means awareness. Being aware of what you consume, how and where things/food are produced, how many resources were needed, how they are packaged and so on. . This plastic bag has been my companion for two years now. I got it at an Adele concert and yes, it was one of the best nights of my life 😋 ever since I’ve been using it as my library bag since a transparent bag is the only thing you are allowed to take inside our university libraries. . Yesterday I had to rush straight from the library to the farmers store in order to get there before they closed. I repurposed it as a produce bag, washed it, dried it and now it’s back to being my library bag 🤓 . Long story short: use what you have, get creative with what you got and make the most of every product you own. . What does sustainable living mean for you? . Seid Euch Eures Handelns bewusst. . Was bedeutet Nachhaltigkeit für Euch? . #sustainableliving#sustainability#foodforthought#usewhatyouhave#reuse#refusesingleuse#nachhaltigkeit#bewusstsein#awareness#ecoconscious#mindfulness#achtsam#umwelt#natur

. This study, published in the journal Science, is one of the most comprehensive analyses to date into the detrimental effects farming can have on the environment and included data on nearly 40,000 farms in 119 countries. . The findings reveal that meat and dairy production is responsible for 60% of agriculture’s greenhouse gas emissions, while the products themselves providing just 18% of calories and 37% of protein levels around the world. . ⬇️Check it out! ⬇️ http://science.sciencemag.org/content/360/6392/987
Source : [Livre] Henry-David Thoreau. "La désobéissance civile". Editions Gallmeister, 2017. 37 p. Do you ever walk through a city and think: wow, this used to be a forest. ~ I do, and there is still evidence of that past. For example, if your country has foxes and you see one walking through your busy streets, it is because we built a city on its wandering path that its ancestors have been walking for millenia. It is so engrained in their being that they cannot alter their path. ~ I once saw a fox walking on the busy streets of Stockholm and I felt heartbroken. Many of them get injured or worse trying to make it through the city. ~ In Sweden we have begun building animal crossing bridges to help them not risk their lives when crossing busy roads. ~ Do you ever see evidence of the past lands that used to lie where your city now stands? 💙
Was hättet ihr genommen? 🇬🇧Today when I was shopping at Coop Seebli in Lupfig I needed garlic urgently. Now I had two choices: foreign garlic unpacked or Swiss organic garlic in a cotton net and plastic tag. What would you have taken? I chose the local organic garlic. @coop.ch couldn't you leave out the plastic for the tag too? It looks similar with oranges. The normal oranges come in the plastic mold, the organic ones in paper/cardboard one. I was especially happy about the carrot juice from the rescue operation of @verein_grassrooted... At the beginning of March, you can support the next rescue operation in Zurich and save sweet-potatos.... Have a look at the feed of @verein_grassrooted. 🐛♻️ The final episode in our "Off the Grid" YouTube series is now up on @bbcearth's 'Earth Lab' channel! This week we look into the lives of people who are truly living off the grid and discover some of the small things we can do at home to be more sustainable. Wormeries and composting are a great place to start and a really fun way to teach your family about decomposition and recycling! #composting#wormeries#sustainability#recycling#earthonlocation
Here in Wageningen sustainability is an omnipresent topic. It's not just been talked about in endless discussions at the University. There are as well countless initiatives to turn knowledge into action. • One of these initiatives is the zero waste market stand on Saturday's market. You can bring your own containers and fill up staple foods, tea, spices and a variety of antipasti. On top of that, everything is organic! 🌰
Genuinely shocked by yesterday! Young people all over the UK joined the global campaign Youth Strike 4 Climate and headed out on the streets in their THOUSANDS🌎! The protest was about encouraging the government to declare a climate emergency while informing the public about the seriousness of climate change. To every young person who marched yesterday you are amazing!! Across the UK not only did you make your voices heard but you carried out the protest with such positive effect. We need more of you to help us shout about the urgency of the state of our planet. To our older generations, government bodies and politicians listen up because future younger generations are not just going to stand around and let this ecological crisis continue. Let this day be another step closer to young people's voices being heard, valued and part of the conversation.
Three wins...trifecta!! Shiplap, Barnwood and Herringbone!! A customer recently created a herringbone pattern using some of our 5” reclaimed shiplap barnwood. Mixed species gives the design some nice color variation. #shiplap creates a nice tight joint and a clean look. We have more available if you need some for your project.
This is 90% of what I use the buggy for, anyone with me?!? ⠀ .⠀ I justify still using it because I need somewhere to let him sleep if I'm out and about at nap time but that won't last forever. ⠀ .⠀ Anyone got a suggestion for an alternative? Maybe a shopping trolley? Or one of those tartan pull along wheely trolleys?⠀ .⠀ #baglady#reusableshoppingbags#reusablebags
It is okay to be selfish sometimes, but it is also important to serve others, and to put others interests before ours from time to time. 🤓 Giving back to society can help us to better ourselves. 🤗 We all have a cause; something that drives us to do better, to be a better person, for other people or for our planet or both. 🌍 If we know or can find ways to reduce suffering, it is our duty to do that. ⬇️ By serving others we remind ourselves of our connections to others and to this world.

Today schools around the country were left empty as students took to the streets to demand change. . Here in Newbury the guys from St Bart's gave me hope today. . I believe that children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way. . Thank you Whitney. . #youthstrike4climate#extinctionrebellion
