CdA Marathon 2019. A new course and multiple distances taking place simultaneously prompted some inevitable confusion on where the marathoners diverge with the half marathon, 10K, and 5K runners. Frustrating that nobody was directing traffic for the marathoners, which resulted in a wrong turn on the part of more than a few participants and a loss of .4 miles on the course. Chip time of 2:51:31, but finishing time was more in the ballpark of 2:54, since I pitter-pattered the extra distance to make it a full 26.2 after crossing the finish line and grabbing my finisher's medal. I'll take it though. Still a huge PR of about 8 minutes, and I learned a lot about my running mechanics and proper form in the "bonk/wall" phase of the race! Really dug deep in the end, but apparently, I have the graceful stride of Shalane Flannigan and hide the fact that I'm due to go in full shutdown mode at any moment. A classic example of fake it till you make it. Cheers to all the finishers out there. Just don't sit too long! Eat. Drink. Gotta start somewhere... why not start today? • June 3rd, We are starting another round of the new 21 day fix and 21 day fix extreme real time programs. I feel like I got so much more out of the new workouts than the old ones that came out 4 years ago (who has the DVDs 🙋🏻‍♀️). Each week we progress with the workouts instead of repeating the same ones each week, over and over. Loved the new workouts because this last round I felt and saw myself get stronger 💪🏻 This round I want to see what I can achieve with my flexibility when we do the yoga days. Instead of waiting until June 3rd, I pushed play to one of our yoga videos on the virtual library today.  I’d like to see my flexibility get better with this pose over the next 6 weeks 👊🏻 My hamstrings are sooooo tight 😳 What’s your goal? I 💯 recommend taking pics to you can track your progress 💕

Today was a rest day in my program but I woke so stiff! I decided to do some yoga to help stretch things out and loosen up. That was probably one of the most painful yoga sessions I’ve ever had, my hips were so tight! . Yesterday I finished week 1 of this 80 day program and I don’t remember the last time that I was this sore! It’s been good to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself with something new! . . It took me a while to figure out that mobility plays a HUGE role in strength. The overhead squat is a great exercise to test strength and mobility. I remember when I could only overhead squat a pvc pipe. Obviously, it wasn’t strength that was a limitation, it was mobility. Today, I’ve embraced mobility training as a part of my session every day. Why should we stretch? * Improves flexibility * Increases your body’s range of motion * Athletic performance is greatly improved * Helps create better posture * Stretching can actually help reduce and prevent back pain! * A great way to reduce stress  Now that we understand the benefits... How do we stretch?  There’s 3 types of stretching * Static * Active * Dynamic  We can also throw SMR or foam rolling in there and is great to pair with every type of stretch!  Static stretching is illustrated in the photo above. This is where we hold a particular stretch for a minimum of 30 sec. 30 seconds is the minimum, because we are trying to trigger our Golgi Tendon organ (GTO). When the GTO is stimulated it inhibits the muscle spindle, which in turn allows the muscle to relax and be elongated.  Static stretching is wonderful for tight muscles or to correct imbalances.  If you’re not feeling tight or in any need of correction than go for active stretching which will be demonstrated in a video this week.  Did you find this post helpful? Good morning!🌞 . Today I have a feeling of gratefulness in my ♥️. I have a loving healthy family👨‍👩‍👦‍👦, a great home 🏡 &my 🐶. It’s a long holiday weekend and we’re all together and the ☀️ is shining.  As I spent time stretching and using the foam roller, I decided to do what I love to do - go for a walk...well, 🏃🏻‍♀️ RUN! . If you’ve been following me, you know arthritis has done a number on my knees and hips so I haven’t been able to run. Acupuncture helps but it’s still achy. One of my ALL time favorite thing to do is run outside in the early peaceful morning. 🌅  So I have it a go after a long stretch sesh. It felt GREAT! So I am even more grateful that my body is able to do the things that it does. I don’t take it for granted for 1 minute. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 My point is this:  Move your body. . Exercise. . Don’t look at it with dread. . Move because you CAN not because you have to. . Don’t forget to think of at least a few things you are grateful for today.  Have a wonderful Sunday! 😊
