The most intense run I’ve ever done. Thanks frendos for encouraging me to sign up and motivating me to overcome obstacles (literal ones) when I wanted to give up. On the day after, it even hurts to sneeze, but it was super worth! Use your Unidays student discount code for a large discount on Sunday races. ($139-> $15) #nopainnogain#spartansprint
It took time to process this one. A week ago I completed my first Spartan race. 7 km of terrain run up and down the hills + 21 obstacles (including swimming in a muddy lake, climbing walls, carrying 20+ kg bucket with rocks, a sand bag and so on). It was a special Fitness celebration for me. When I signed up for it, I couldn't believe I will do it. I wasn't ready. For 6+ months this year I dealt with immense pain in my back and my ankles and had to stop all exercise related activities, such as dancing or gym, as advised by my doctor. So when I signed up for this race I was back to square one. Or so I thought. I signed up for it because I thought that it will be a great motivation to come back to fitness, to work on what I am not motivated to do day to day. I needed a push. The fact that I was going to do it with 20+ colleagues was a great one. I also knew that if I don't prepare well, I will be a drag for the team and will need to do a lot of burpees (each failed obstacle = 30 burpees). It motivated me enough to wake up each Saturday morning at 6 am and go for a terrain run. Perhaps that Saturday routine is the biggest piece in the formula contributing to the fact I not only finished the race but finished strong (7th in my age category). I remember standing at the start line thinking "You are so strong. You are not only going to do it, but you are here to help others pass the obstacles". And I am surprised how even though challenging, how easy it was at the same time. How strong I felt. How surprised I was by my endurance. Thanks to that high, I announce next year my fitness year. I am currently training for a Sprint Triathlon and also will get my Spartan trifecta (will complete 7+; 14+ and 21+ km race in a year). Let's see what else the 2019 will bring. Fuck back pain, I am saying YES to health and longevity! #mindvalley#team#aroo#spartanrace#spartansprint#spartanracemalaysia#spartanwomen#thisissparta
Yesterday was insane! I want to start of by thanking everyone who donated and to those who supported me. Thanks to my awesome roommate who convinced me to do this crazy run with her. Woke up super sore and bruised all over but I would definitely do it again! I have to say the best & memorable part was getting to the last obstacle and hearing my mom cheer me on. ( total surprise!) i started crying no joke 😭 that was everything. Momma will always be your number 1 supporter regardless! Also thanks to el novio for showing up to support 💙 #spartansprint#spartanrace
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but I can’t stop laughing to come up with 5! Pure gold. These pictures capture our friendship perfectly! @armarillo7 you’re THE BEST sidekick, but I kind of worry about our sanity doing these things without training 😂 Half marathon ✔️ Spartan sprint ✔️ Sedona/Flag weekend with our bestie @m_heiz —> not soon enough! #spartanrace#spartansprint#losangeles
Medal 🥇 Monday.... Finisher my Trifecta 😊 This one was probably my favorite to complete. I started the year off with a 2nd place finish in the age group bracket at chino hills. The beast at Big bear changed everything for me. Even though I did really well and took 9th in my age group. That race mentally shock me. It’s the first time since I’ve stared racing that I said “I’m done” it drained me for mentally then anything I’ve done. After that race I was invited to race age group at the world championships in Tahoe. I wasn’t going to do it till @bobup2 convinced me with some choice words. I started training in July for a September race. Mentally I still wasn’t into it but I was going to do it. During my training I hurt my S.I joint and piriformis muscle. I had to opt out of the race because I couldn’t even run without pain. It’s taken me from August till now to get to 85/90%. I won’t lie and I was in my head saying things like “what if you get hurt?”, “is it worth it?” But I committed to doing this race and competing my Trifecta. Durning my race I felt the best I’ve ever felt racing. I know I had another two gears i could of turned on but my goal was to finish the race injury free. Finishing this Trifecta was the most challenging one yet but it re sparked my love to race. I’ll be racing in the age group bracket at chino hills in January but next year I will be sticking with only sprints. Who wants to join me in January?
We came, we fought and we conquered #lastpic#spartan#spartanrace#spartansprint 🏃🏽♀️🔥🙌🏼 I felt my lungs and legs burn going up those hills, I was challenged mentally by the A frame cargo obstacle #fearofheights got down and dirty with the Rolling mud and dunk wall and favorite was the slip wall for sure. Being able to do a race with people who push you to be your best and not allow you to give up is the best feeling when everything is said and done. #finishers#aff #5.3miles #20+obstacles #caliliving
Finished my 1st year in the OCR sport strong. . . The medals were nice, but the friendships I gained were the real rewards. @spartan_nomad @thomasblancocr @dovey08 @layhoonw @ivko_fitness @jayboymacha @silverback_spartan @hetja @alley_ooh @turbobek @kelleyschulte @shaiydaquiz .
Set your goals high and don't stop till you get there. • • I've finally arrived back home and had time to reflect on my outstanding weekend @spartan Ultra World Championships! I finished a total of 6 laps/45 miles. Coming in 1st in my age group and 7th Overall. • • I'd like to thank @ualocal401 for sponsering me and sending me to Iceland. Also everyone back home who supported and followed me throughout the 24 hours I was on course.
Got to run a second lap with the @fitness.on.fire fam. To those who ran their first Spartan, challenged themselves and crushed the obstacles, ran to improve their time or just going for a penalty free race... I'm VERY PROUD of you all. Cheers to accomplishing those goals this past weekend. 🙌 #spartansprint
I gotta get real braggy about my spartan squad for a minute. These dudes are straight savages with NO QUIT in them. You know how they say you’re the sum of the people around you? Man then I am in great shape cause these guys are the just squad to want around. 💪 All together this year we’ve logged 27 miles on the courses, all the obstacles, endless miles in training, and idk at least 6 miles from the parking lot to the course and back lol. Man I am PROUD of us. 4 total spartan races down. 2019 season coming up 👍 LETS GET THIS NEXT TRIFECTA 🤙 So here’s some pics from the beast. Garrett still won’t unfold his arms. And there’s clearly something about having all your trifecta medals around your neck that means you gotta zone out and stare at em for a minute lol. I won’t let go of my medal. And burpee proof @joejitsufitness is still number one cause this dude has been leading us down this path like a champ champ. Sorry not sorry for all the posts. It’s not everyday you earn a trifecta. I mean it’s not everyday you set a goal a year in advance, spend the whole time working on it, and crush that goal. I love it. #spartansquad#joejitsufitness#aroo#spartanrace#spartantrifecta#trifectatribe2018#spartanbeast#spartansuper#spartansprint#ocr#muddyandsmiling#garrettsarmsdontunfold#joeisburpeeproof
Covering the Spartan Ultra World Championship in Iceland — which would be a lot less nerve-racking if I weren’t also about to take on my first Spartan course. While I’m only doing one loop of the 6.6-mile course, many athletes are racing for 24 hours to rack up as many miles as possible. Most of that time will be in complete darkness. Thirty (four laps) gets them a medal. 🏅

Well, that wraps my 2018 Spartan Race season as well as my first year as a CrossFit and Spartan athlete. . I've come a long way since my first race. My finish times have significantly gotten better. I'm able to do certain obstacles with ease now such as the Herc Hoist and Plate Drag, which I've needed assistance with in the past when I was still running in the Open heat. Two months ago, I decided to take it to the next level and run Age Group (Competitive), and so far it's been really fun yet much more challenging trying to keep up with these beasts. . The dudes in my age group today were freakin' fast, but that's great cause it really pushed me to run harder than ever. 🤮 I didn't place as high as I was hoping today, but I did finish almost 30 min faster than I did last year at Castaic so that's still a big accomplishment. . Also, gotta give a big thanks and much appreciation to my brother Allan (@sac_af68) and my friends Andy (@bunnyman42), Ryne (@rynesworld), Angela (@most_smartest), and De (@delovestrees) for always being there to motivate and cheer me on throughout this journey. Means a lot. ❤ . Lastly, I just want to say to those who think to themselves "there's no way I can do that" that it's never too late and you're never too old. If I can go from never having a gym membership up until 14 months ago to joining a CrossFit gym and competing at Spartan Races, you can do this too. Anything is possible if you put in the time, and believe in yourself. Aroo! 💪🏽
