Meet little Cora! She was born on September 22, 2017 at 30 weeks and three days. Her mom had been in the hospital with preterm labor for one month almost exactly until her water broke in the middle of the night. Cora spent a month in the NICU and went home on an apnea monitor. She’s now a beautiful 1 year old and doing wonderfully! ⠀ •⠀ Her mom is a labor and delivery nurse, and uses their story to help my patients who are going through similarities experiences. No one knows the pain you feel being a NICU parent until you’ve been through it yourself. We have all witnessed miracles.

🚫STOP! MOMMY AND BABY SHOULD BE LEFT UNDISTURBED AFTER BIRTH🚫 Your baby is finally born and now you and baby are thrusted immediately into the world of bright lights, loud sounds, coldness, visitors and your baby is taken for routine procedures. All this is normal, routine hospital procedure, but Is this the right approach?🤔 Is it important to change what we do immediately after giving birth?🤔 What are the risks and benefits?🤔 Can we lower postpartum hemorrhage by leaving mother and baby undisturbed?🤔 📌Your body goes through a delicate dance of hormones during birth. In the third stage(third stage begins after the baby is born and ends when the placenta is delivered), your body is still going through a rush of Oxytocin, Endorphins and Adrenaline. Oxytocin is at a peak level which helps the uterus to keep contracting and help sheer the placenta away from uterus, endorphins help you bond with baby, and adrenaline levels start to lower which can leave you shaky and cold. 📌Postpartum hemorrhage is the leading cause of death during childbirth. Too often, we have bright lights, the room is cold, baby is taken for assessment, placenta is pulled out of mommy with controlled cord traction(pulling of the cord to deliver the placenta) and she undergoes repairs. And then here comes the visitors. 📌Studies show that controlled cord traction is not actually lowering the rates of postpartum hemorrhage. We can do without pulling and yanking the cord. It’s beneficial and in everyone’s interest, if mommy and baby are healthy, to leave the cord intact and allow mommy to deliver her placenta on her own. Did you know that pulling the cord can actually invert your uterus😱😭 and do more damage than good? ✅WHAT CAN WE DO BETTER IN THE THIRD STAGE?✅ ➖Baby should go immediately and directly to mommy for skin to skin contact and delaying clamping of the cord. ➖Lights should stay low and room should be warm to ensure that mommy and baby’s
Unconditional Love 🖤 . . I was almost not going to post this, because my face looks hideous on it. But who looks amazing after giving birth anyway? . . Regardless of whatever my face looks like, I love this picture. This is moments after meeting my son. I felt his connection and spirit when he was inside my womb, but meeting him right there in front of me and holding his tiny body, cuddling his soft skin and feeding him is one of the most beautiful things I have ever experienced. Before I saw him I loved him unconditionally, and when I saw him I thought I could not possibly love anyone else as much as I love him. Yet here I am two babies more and I love all three of them with the same pure unconditional love. Love is never ending, even when you think you have reached your limit, your heart keeps on giving. #love #unconditionallove #motherhood . . #skintoskin #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmama #boymom #girlmom #momof3 #mumof3 #throwbackthursday #throwback #tbt #blackandwhite #naturalbeauty #naturalbirth #firstborn #motherhoodunplugged #motherhoodrising #motherhoodthroughinstagram #motherhoodsimplified #mama #momlife #mumlife #birth #newbaby #postpartum #pregnancy #family

That newborn stage though. You feel like you’ll be in it forever. You cry while everyone else sleeps. You feel guilty for being mad. Tired. Sad. But you know this is what you want and you know that this little human you’re caring for is everything that matters. So you suck it up, wipe those tears off your face and push on through. Because everything is temporary, except the love you have for your bub 🖤 • • • • • • • #igmotherhood#motherhood#momofboys#twoundertwo#momdiaries#babyboy#toddler#siblings#photography#babyphotography#breastfeeding#normalizebreastfeeding#tijuana#mexico#sandiego#california#momlife#happiness#lifewithkids#attachedparenting#cosleeping#newbornstage#postpartum#postpartumdepression#babyblues#babygirl#mystruggle#skintoskin
We are just THRILLED to support initiatives like this. Thank you for sharing, MamaBaby Haiti! ❤ “At MamaBaby Haiti we believe skin-to-skin contact is important. We also support the undisturbed hour with each and every baby. Why is skin-to-skin contact important? There is a growing body of evidence that skin-to-skin contact after the birth helps babies and their mothers in many ways. Calms and relaxes both mother and baby Regulates the baby’s heart rate and breathing, helping them to better adapt to life outside the womb Stimulates digestion and an interest in feeding Regulates temperature Enables colonisation of the baby’s skin with the mother’s friendly bacteria, thus providing protection against infection Stimulates the release of hormones to support breastfeeding and mothering. Additional benefits for babies in the neonatal unit Improves oxygen saturation Reduces cortisol (stress) levels particularly following painful procedures Encourages pre-feeding behaviour Assists with growth May reduce hospital stay If the mother expresses following a period of skin-to-skin contact, her milk volume will improve and the milk expressed will contain the most up-to-date antibodies -unicef Joeybands were donated to MamaBaby Haiti to encourage and support skin-to-skin contact during postpartum. 📷via China Tolliver via @mamababy_haiti. #hearttoheart time with mama. Babies are born incredibly sensitive - way more than we realize. They can hear, smell, taste, are aware of touch, and see you when you hold them; they can feel and sense emotion and surrounding energy, they know when they are close and comforted, and their needs are met. They have multiple ways of communicating non-verbally. You will learn your baby's ways simply by spending time with them.  Please share ways your baby communicates to you without talking. #skintoskin #twinmagic #babytwins 📷: @kystalwilson_ cosyhomestreet
Running errands with your baby never felt or looked so good! Due to its stretch compression fabric and length, Nesting Days carriers can be worn and accessorized like a shirt or dress. In these cooling autumn temperatures, throw a jean jacket over top for added warmth, comfort, and style! 🤗
We had to share this heartwarming story from @puddleduckssthcheshire to celebrate & promote #nationaladoptionweek Our Wrexham Swim Academy Teacher Jen and her husband adopted their Daughter in 2013. Here is Jens journey: “In 2007 we welcomed our son into the World and we were beyond thrilled, shortly after his birth I was told I was going through the menopause, I was 25 years old at that point! We spent years trying to defy the odds and I did every alternative therapy I could but we were unable to fall pregnant. We knew we desperately wanted another child and a sibling for our son. In January 2012 we started our journey into adoption and less than 18 months later we had a daughter! At 17 months old, this little person was everything we had dreamed of however, I struggled to bond with her at first but thanks to Puddle Ducks we overcame this! Skin to skin contact is important for bonding and attachment with your child but my daughter had not experienced this before, and with her being 17 months when she joined our family, she couldn't be breastfed by me so we needed to find ways to have skin to skin contact. Swimming! It was perfect! We joined a Kickers class. I loved that we had the skin to skin contact but I also knew that she relied on me to keep her safe in the water, so we learned to really trust each other a build a strong bond. My daughter didn't laugh often. She would also trust anyone due to adults coming in and out of her early life and we needed to change this for not only our aim of positive attachment but also for her safety. Swimming with Puddle Ducks each week helped us immensely, I learned to bond with my daughter, she learned why to trust me and we laughed a lot together (we still do). Photo shows her love of the water, even if it is a love of being mostly under the water! 😊” How beautiful! 💕💕💕 #skintoskin #bonding #welovepuddleducks #nurture #adoption #swimmingjourney #trust #laughter #familiesbelongtogether
