Summer in Tucson is brutal, but I came prepared. . . . • La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 - effective multi-purpose balm for extremely dry skin, has panthenol and madecassoside, safe to use on little kiddos (as always, do a patch test first) • La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer UV - awesome daytime summer moisturizer/sunscreen, contains prebiotics, perfect for people who don’t like putting on sunscreen (although you really should) • Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion Moist - super lightweight, perfect for the 7 skin method and great to use for the summer, contains 3 different molecular weights of HA (not as heavy as the premium) • Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel - great moisturizer for oily skin types (I use it as a leave-on mask), contains 80% aloe leaf juice and 10% propolis extract. • Benton Fermentation Eye Cream (Vegan, CF) - super silky, the ingredients list is heaven.
Health and beauty are inextricably linked… ⠀ That is the @grownalchemist philosophy. I’ve only just recently discovered this brand but their brand concept and philosophy is one that I can get behind. You know I love a good medical grade skincare line. I wouldn’t consider this medical grade but it does have some of the same concepts. To sum up what they do, they find out the factors that cause our skin to age and reverse engineer products that work with your body’s natural repair cycles. AKA Bio Compatible Beauty. ⠀ What I love about this brand starts with their super simplistic packaging. They make products that my boyfriend can use and that he’s not ashamed of leaving out on his counter. The ingredients that they put into their skincare has been thoroughly thought out. Possibly the only thing I don’t like about this brand is that they put their moisturizers in a tube. I just think it’s incredibly wasteful since I usually get frustrated when I get to the bottom and toss it out. ⠀ The Brightening Serum has a Phyto-complex that noticeably whitens facial skin. But not in the way you think. It makes my skin look super clear but there is this dark spot that I have right under my left eye that has significantly lightened ever since I started using this. I’m about 45 days in and the results are worth the $79 price tag for me. ⠀ The Matte Balancing Moisturizer is a very light cream texture but wears like a water gel would. You get the benefits of something incredibly light and non greasy without the added alcohol that a water gel cream would contain. Oh and don’t forget the boat load of antioxidants in this moisturizer. I happen to know that my boyfriend loves using this because it doesn’t leave his face all greasy. ⠀ Have you tried @grownalchemist? Let me know what some of your favorite products are.
💋💋💋 Finally tried the #patmcgrathlabs MatteTrance Lipstick in Full Panic (a bright fuchsia) and I am obsessed! Though it is a matte formula, it doesn’t look or feel drying and it wears well throughout a night out. The pigment is next level and, though the colour is quite bright, it is really wearable. I bought this as part of a trio of minis and can’t wait to try the other two shades - Elson and Obsessed. Stay tuned 💙

🎭 Masks! 🎭 It kind of seems like companies use the word mask (or masque if you’re ✨fancy✨) to refer to really different types of products. These are 5 masks. Three are peeling/exfoliating products (Ren, Tata, and AmorePacific), while two are hydrating evening moisturizers (YTTP and Laneige). Those are kinda opposites, right? 🤪 Oh well. Masques or masks, they do the job. Of the items pictured, I absolutely love the Ren, YTTP, and Laneige. The jury is out on the other two! #maskmonday#masquemonday#skincare#skincarecommunity#skinstagram#skinsta#beauty
Phenoxyethanol is an ingredient that I’ve mentioned time and time again, but what exactly is it? Phenoxyethanol is a synthetic preservative that has gained popularity as a replacement for parabens and formaldehyde releasers. It protects products against microbial growth. It is stable, virtually odourless, easy to formulate with and inexpensive. No wonder it’s so popular! . The problem? In higher concentrations, Phenoxyethanol is toxic. Ingestion can “depress the central nervous system, cause vomiting and diarrhea” it is a “potential neurotoxin and can cause irritation” BUT, in skincare, it neither exists in high concentrations nor should it be ingested. The SCCS reviewed hundreds of studies and concluded Phenoxyethanol is safe in cosmetics at concentrations up to 1%. In light of that conclusion, the EU put a 1% restriction on it’s use in cosmetic products (Note: neither Canada nor the USA have imposed such restrictions). . Why have I been giving it so much attention? Because it’s impossible to avoid! Go read the labels of your 10 favourite products (even “clean” ones) and see how many times it pops up. Even though it has been shown safe in lower quantities, the cumulative effects have not been thoroughly studied. When you use a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, eye cream etc., all of which contain Phenoxyethanol, your exposure to the ingredient increases. Think of it this way... a single glass of wine might not have much effect, but drink several in a row and you’ll definitely feel the alcohol. . My personal opinion is this... Be conscious of your usage! If I’m layering multiple products, I make an effort to limit those containing Phenoxyethanol so I don’t push my use above the generally accepted “safe concentration”. . P.S. While Pregnant and BFing I eliminated Phenoxyethanol entirely from my regime and I don’t use products that contain it on my little one. . #tuesdaytopic#skinstagram#skinsta#topshelfie#beauty
Hey hey beauties, hope everyone is having a great start of the week! It’s a big day in Toronto today, it’s The Raptors Celebrations Day 🏀🎉 . . . I’ve come to love facial oils and not be afraid of them, as I used to be before 🙈 . . My recent favorite is the @vo.beautyco Beauty Oil. It has Blue Tansy, Pomegranate and Rosehip Oil, and Meadow Foam Seed Oil. It’s a very rich oil, great for dry, combination, acne-prone sensitive and uneven skin. The oil can be used alone, but I love using it underneath a moisturizer for a deeper hydration. . Have you tried this oil?
My newest DE purchase - jumbo Framboos. The two biggest differences that I’ve seen with my skin since starting @drunkelephant have been the smoothness - and it had a cumulative effect, at first it was smoother than usual with less textural issues, but now - esp in the days after Babyfacial I’m seeing such a glass-like smoothness, with literally no small bumps at all. Also - the clarity. Again, at first I started seeing marks fading but now after prolonged consistent use, my skin has a transparent clarity almost. And also my undereyes areas have sometimes been prone to some slight purple discoloration but I’m not getting that anymore. There’s a whole host of improvements I’ve seen that I will go into in more detail sometime soon ☺️☺️
So happy to have been gifted the special #pride edition of the @youthtothepeople Superfood Cleanser*. The cleanser is #siliconefree#sulfatefree#vegan and #crueltyfree and for the special Pride edition, 100% of the profit up to $50,000 will be donated to @glsen Glsen is a non-profit that works to create a safe school environment for #lgbtq students. So, if you have been eyeing this cleanser for a while, now is a good time to finally purchase and not only do something good for yourself but to also give back. . *kindly gifted but opinions are mine
🍃 Did you know that around 80% of women think that their face care routine is more important than their body care routine? 🍃 Yet other parts of your body experience harsher conditions, and more bacteria throughout the day. Think about it; Your hands are exposed to the magnified sun through your car windscreen, your elbows rest on every surface from your office desk to the lunchroom table, and your booty is vulnerable to the bacteria on your toilet seat. So it's critical to develop a body skincare routine that cleanses, moisturises, and most importantly, protects your skin. After all our skin is the largest barrier against infection that we have.
