It’s been six months since the last Overdressed Market. Six whole months since the the market I began in 2013 and grew into a #fashionistaextravaganza ceased to exist. I can hardly believe it x On one hand it’s scary to walk away from the ‘thing’ for which you are known. On the other hand you have to make space for yourself and for opportunity, and with time it’s definitely the latter hand which becomes the most bejewelled x So what have I been doing for the past six months? Well, I certainly haven’t taken a break from preloved fashion - if anything my wardrobe has never looked better! I’ve invested in love, work (my ‘real job’) and related passions, and have refined the purpose of @overdressed.style to a single mission statement. It’s amazing what you can achieve when you find your ‘why’ and follow its guiding light x On Saturday 1 June the all-new overdressed.com.au will be unveiled and I can’t wait to share next steps with you then. Thank you for listening fashionistas, talk soon x
So we went into Oxford today... me dressed in my new Rapanui t-shirt (see yesterday’s post!)... and we saw these guys. The lady asked me ‘Do you know who made your clothes?’ & I said ‘Yes!! I actually do know!’ She was amazed that I did, but the timing was perfect as I only know where 2 items of my clothes come from & I was wearing one of them! They had a second hand clothes stall there where we found some lovely shoes for George & there were some interesting/scary facts about the fashion trade (keep swiping left). I liked the quote on one of the posters... We need to buy less, buy better & keep asking questions about the realities behind what we’re purchasing. I couldn’t agree more 👍 . . . @rapanuiclothing . . #zerowastestepbystep#zerowastegoal#sustainablefashion#wheredoyourclothescomefrom#nofastfashion#secondhandfirst#modernslavery#whomakesmyclothes#rapanui#noplanetb
NOW! Come visit our TRAID pop up charity shop at Depop Market LDN along with other amazing sellers. Lots of vintage and gorgeous secondhand to browse. 25 - 27 May at Hackney Bohemia Market (right opposite Hackney Central station) #depopmarketldn#traid#secondhandfirst
Before you go out shopping maybe try to find what you are looking for at a thrift store! There is no shame in second hand clothing, but there is plenty of shame in 315,360 tonnes of fashion waste per year in Australia. Recycled clothing found in thrift stores are an excellent way for us to find what we want in a fraction of the price without costing the environment extra pollution. These gorgeous @juliusmarlow boots that retail around $170 I found today for $10 at @salvosau and they might be for my hubby but I think I might be stealing them #thriftingfinds#salvos#secondhandfirst#ourplanetourhome#zerowastehome♻️

You guys know I love myself a watch key 🙊 ( or like 20 !🤣) ✨ A beauty to behold with her gorgeous chased detailing, I usually go for the ones with the pretty gem stones and gummy cabochons but there is something beautifully minimal about this simpler style of key , while still being utterly gorgeous and detailed ✨ Listed on my website for a steal link in bio ✨ I went and had breakfast at a vegan cafe today with my kids , my sisters and my mama - it was divine ! We had vegan pancakes with yummy fruity toppings, just a complete dream and the kids also polished off theirs 💫 My eldest can be really fussy if I tell him something is vegan so I wasn’t sure how this would go down, but it’s local and just opened and I had to go try it 🥰🌱 DM to buy this piece or head over to my website ✨

There was a time when I would buy a new outfit for every formal occasion 👗 Not only was that a waste of money 💸 it was hardly sustainable given the amount of water, toxic dyes and leftover fabric that goes into making just 1 garment. 💔Working in sustainability for fashion brands really opened my eyes and convinced me to just buy less. 🌎💚 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀. I rocked this dress I bought more than 10 years ago to a wedding night. Some friends will even remember when my wild child 2 yr old bit a hole in it at a party😆, but don’t worry it was repaired to look good as new. 💃 My tips: • Shop in your closet (or the closet of a nice friend!) before you buy new, especially when you need something for one event • Or look into a sharing program like @renttherunway in the US or @lena_library in the NL • Check out consignment/thrift/vintage stores • Repair what you have when needed • When you do buy new, buy to last 👌 💚 What are your tricks for buying less?
🌸 I go on holiday today🎉heading up North for a week of relaxation 🌸 . . Time for a long ass post! 😊 . . For the last couple of weeks I had been toying with the idea of deleting my account, or at least logging off for a while. I came to the realisation that instead of posting things for myself I had been posting things to get likes and a following over my own interests.I obviously want to create a following so I can preach about charity shops 😂 but at points it felt almost unhealthy. Today though I can say I’m happy I didn’t. The last couple of weeks have been brilliant on Instagram, people in this community are so supportive and willing to help you achieve your goals, no matter how small they may seem. I love that I have umpteen ladies on this that I regularly chat to over messages and share stories of our finds, interests and life in general. We don’t all have the same types of accounts and we don’t all have the same interests but it’s lovely just to chat away to people from all walks of life and from all over the country. I also feel no judgement from the ladies I’ve met over the course of starting my account. No one cares what your job is or where you stay because it’s not important 😊 I’ve been lucky enough to go on a few insta meets with some awesome ladies who are absolutely OWNING it on the gram! I have been trying to limit my usage because as much as I love it, I also have other things I need to focus on..but to me this is a hobby and its so great that other people are genuinely curious and interested in what I do 💕😍 feeling the love 💖 . . Ps: I picked up this stunning little bolero/shrug from @mariecurieuk for 99p. It’s only a wee @primark number but the print on it was just so fabulous I could t leave it behind 💕🌸☀️ . . . #outfitinspo#prelovedpretties#prelovedstyle#lookgoodforless#ootdfashion#averagegirlsize#midsizestyle#size14#size16style#instastyle#charityshopfind#wiw#wiwt#whatiwore
I really need to look out my summer clothes. It’s been getting hot in Berlin! I bought this top secondhand from @oxfamonlineshop in anticipation of the warmer weather and have worn it twice already. It’s linen and so comfortable and I know it’s going to be a winner for summer.
