Check out my brother @alexmccormac on his podcast debut for a view of an Earth Scientist - Idealpult with Kevin Fleming on Spotify and Apple Music 🌍 Forever beaming with pride at this one!! 📆 1976 📆 • • • • • • • Sandwiched between my two favourites! Yesterday @maisie_williams and I were lucky enough to talk with Ken Balcomb of the @centerforwhaleresearch for @searchingforchinook. This is me holding the first ever book of Photo ID’s of the southern resident killer Whales, Ken did for the Center In 1976.... this was a moment. #orca#killerwhale#srkw#documentary#searchingforchinook#pnw
#repost @pnwprotectors (@get_repost) ・・・ 🔱Orca Action of the day🔱: . Let’s all write handwritten letters to protect our 75 Southern Resident Orcas from extinction. . ✍🏼Breaching the lower four snake river dams is the ONLY way to save the dwindling Chinook Salmon and 75 Southern Resident Orcas. These dams need to be breached IMMEDIATELY!🐟🐬. . . . . 🔹Snake River Chinook Salmon Facts: . •1. Historical Chinook Salmon numbers for the Snake River range from 10-16 million per year. . . •2. In 2018 Chinook Salmon were forecasted at 100K, the forecast fell way short and only 67K actually returned. . . •3. In 2019 the Chinook Salmon forecast is 48K. Only 8,200 of those Chinook are wild salmon. . . . . 🆘 Breaching the Lower Four Snake River Dams is the ONLY bold, sustainable, realistic, intelligent, reasonable solution to save our Southern Resident Orcas and the Chinook Salmon from extinction. . . . 🔺Governor Jay Inslee🔺: 416 14th Avenue SW Olympia, Wa. 98504 . . . . Join the journey @searchingforchinook and don't stop believing! 💃It can get bit overwhelming if you are the sort that gives a hoot about our planet and the beings that reside upon it. It feels like too big of a battle but as Jane Goodall says "there is still so much left to fight for". And small everyday changes in our lives can add up collectively to immense victories. I have nothing but love and admiration for the dedicated women who are @searchingforchinnook. If you want to know more about the Southern Residents and how we can all help save them from extinction head on over. 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟 #searchingforchinook
Join The Journey @searchingforchinook #searchingforchinook This is the documentary I spent part of the summer being with while they were filming and producing. It’s going to be special ☺️. Others to follow: @orcabytes @blueadvocates my cousin Maria (co-producer): @dreams.of.wandering @alexinwonderlust @maisie_williams @lizard.fletcher_tiu @shariana @gailiejenks @swimming_in_moonlight @_chopwoodcarrywater_ @pnwprotectors all part of a big story. Can’t wait to see how it turns out all! 🐬🐳🐋
Family above all else. If only humanity could put others needs before their own like the Southern Resident Killer Whales do. Watching starving mothers feed their own babies before they take a single bite was sobering. Remember to boycott Chinook Salmon when dining out.

New Zealand killer whale culture is amazing. They are known to play with the locals at the killer surf spots. Public involvement and awareness is also much better overall in New Zealand. During our time down there with the Orca Research Trust, sighting reports were being made by adults and children who would know which individuals they were reporting by name and they would know to include direction of travel, individuals present, time of day and behavior.
#repost @pnwprotectors (@get_repost) ・・・ 🔹Orca Action of the Day:🔹 Let’s all call Governor Inslee & General Semonite today. No matter where you live, no matter have many times you have already called, the Southern Resident Orcas need our voices as a big family of love! #weprotectwhatwelove . . Governor Jay Inslee:. ▪️(360) 902-4111▪️ . “Please breach the lower four snake river dams ASAP & NO CULL on pinnipeds, there’s not a population explosion, their numbers have been the same for the last 20 years, we need pinnipeds in the ecosystem.” . . . . Us Army Corps of Engineers : Army Corps HQ General Semonite ▪️(202) 761-0000▪️ “Please supplement the 2002 Environmental Impact Statement immediately and use Alternative #4 to breach the lower four snake river dams ASAP!” . . 🐳 How do you ID a whale?... . . With patience, persistence, help and this handy guide from @centerforwhaleresearch 🤣... . . But really; • individuals have distinctive eye patches, saddle patches and dorsal fins!... We practiced as best we could over the summer and learned to ID a handful of the whales without having to check the guide but the pros at this are definitely @seahumansphotog and @hysazu 📷 ... . . #searchingforchinook#whale#killerwhale#orca#photography#wildlifephotography#documentary
⁉️ Who are the Southern Residents ⁉️... . . So since we have lots of new followers and everyone is winding down a little over the holiday we thought we would take things back to basics!... . . The Southern residents are an endangered population of now 74 individual orca that live in the Salish Sea and are swiftly approaching extinction! They are made up of 3 pods - J, K and L Pod!... . . They are a fish eating species with around 90% of their diet comprised of Chinook salmon, many runs of which are also endangered!... . . With a lack of Chinook at the top of the list these whales are facing an enormous number of complicated threats. Our documentary ‘Searching For Chinook’ aims to raise awareness of the issues they are facing with a global audience to bring about change before it is too late! . . #searchingforchinook#orca#killerwhale#chinook#salmon#endangeredspecies#extinction#ocean#pnw#documentary#nofishnoblackfish#awareness
