Caffeine is amongst the few supplements that are proven to positively benefit training/performance through a range of mechanisms (e.g. Decreasing how we perceive the difficulty of specific movements and/or improving our alertness and concentration) ____ The ingestion of 3-5mg for every kg of body weight within 60 minutes of exercise has shown to improve performance across a range of activities (endurance and sprint based testing, strength and power output). ____ Unfortunately, people still choose coffee as their predominant source of caffeine for improving performance. Studies throughtout the last decade have found that the caffeine content of coffee show a huge degree variability. An espresso from Starbucks has been found to vary from as little as 25mg up to 214mg of caffeine alone. ____ Whilst sources such as Monster contain the same caffeine content daily, meaning intake can be regulated before training. Some great caffeine sources exist other than coffee which are inexpensive, such as caffeine powders, caffeine gum and even caffeine patches. ____ Takeaway: Consider your source of caffeine when it comes to improving performance and choose an option that stops you guessing. If you prefer coffee, stick with options such as Nescafe Original instant coffee, which remains pretty constant in its caffeine content (170mg caffeine/5 g of instant coffee)

Huge PR. 4 Triples off a 1” Deficit @ 160kg. Not that long ago I attempted 160kg for multiple singles and failed every time. The technique changes I’ve made are not used to heavier weight. My back rounded and I wasn’t getting in enough of an upfront position. Couldn’t feel the locked in tightness in my lats but just need some more back strength which will come. Can’t bench, can barely deadlift, but at least I have squats & ice cream🍦 275x4x5 and then a 275 AMRAP for my last set and got 7.5 😤 Nearly 28 reps at 2x body weight. What do you think my 1RM is now?

Sometimes I forget that powerlifting was my saviour from an eating disorder and my escape from reality and my mental health. It’s my therapy. It’s my hobby. It’s my passion 🤩 - The feeling of putting on your headphones, music drowning out the negative voices and getting under the bar is a feeling you cannot describe to anyone who doesn’t lift. And lately my motivation for this sport has taken a massive leap because I’m determined to get on the platform and show myself what I can do. I don’t need the validation of others. It’s a competition against other lifters but more importantly it’s a competition between myself. The community as a whole is empowering and supportive and it’s beautiful to be apart of but to fully progress you need to believe in yourself 💕 - However it does not mean it’s the only identity I have.
