Today's temps were much more favorable!! And boy did I need it for this run. Vicarious trauma is a real thing as a counselor. I had a really rough call this morning as well as other stressful events happen at work today. This is why self care is sooooo important. Running helped me to clear my head and leave work at the door. Really enjoyed my run tonight and hoping to continue to stay active over the holidays and not slip like last year!
I could not seem to warm up today at work (probably because the building is ANCIENT). But that didn't stop me from being a dedicated (or slightly delusional) runner for tackling 3 miles in sub-12 degree temps with 15 mph winds 😂 #icantfeelmyface#noreally#brrrr
Now that I've had time to think and get in 5 runs since last Monday. I have come to several revelations! 1) I really honestly & truly do love running. I thought for a while I was tricking myself into it in a way. I say this because I've heard people say, "no one LIKES running or cardio" but I've figured out not only do I love it, but I need it. I mean what a great thing to lean on when I need "me time" 2) I'm not the best sleeper, but if I've ran that day, I'm surely passing out cold that night. 3)It clears my head and keeps me in a higher cognitive state. 4)If you remember, running is how I began my journey and how I lost most of my weight. I had to stop though due to an injury of the knee.😒 and• • • 5) Slowly but surely I am creeping back up to those 10 milers I used to do. Because of my knee I am not as fast as I used to be. Fastest mile ever was when I was hitting 6.7 min per mile! Slowest was when I first started at 19 min I am currently a 10 min girl and I am comfortable here - however, in true gtunny form I shave 1 1/2 to 2 min off each run without really even trying😌 that's just me I guess. #run#runner#imbackforgood#godwilling#runforyourlife#nikerunclub#happytrails#iloverunning#runnerscommunity#runnersunite#instarunners
Had a great morning of races this morning!! Swipe ➡️➡️ Went in with zero expectations for the five mile and crunched out a personal best and a second place female age division! Then I killed the chocolate chug mile with another personal best and second female overall! And it was great to see and chat with @melliesmel too!
Holy brrrr the temp dropped too quickly!! That first really cold run is always a shock to the system but once you get past the first half mile, you start to adjust. Had fun running with @fleetfeetdsm and @aheinz57petrescue this morning and petting all the dogs!! I have a rescue dog myself so I'm always down to donate or contribute to animal shelters. Plus I got this adorable book for my nieces for Christmas and got to meet Bridget! 🐶
So I'm just gonna put this out there: Logan (one of our staff at the Bank street location) makes the best sandwich board signs. I don't think my hand writing could ever be that nice lol. Hope everyone has a great weekend! ❄
