This girl, man. 😍 I’m so glad our paths have crossed and we’ve built such a beautiful friendship out of it. • She thinks I’m pushing her, but really she’s pushing me. Ran the Pasadena half today and while it’s only the 3rd year of this it’s become my fav. Yr 1 was rain Yr 2 was hot but today was perfect. I fell into a nice pocket with @laroadrunners Run 4 at about mile 4 rode out with them today until mile 11. At that point my plantar fasciitis made it unbearable. Happy Sweaty Surya26 Sunday! ☀️ . Once in a while I go on a color binge to break away from wearing black all the time. Today was certainly one of those days haha! 🎨 Today I wore my “Midsummer Nights Dream” leggings which you can get via my @anthropolesley bio link if you fancy. 😉 The Bikram yoga mat and towel were designed by @yogadesignlab which I couldn’t pass up buying when I saw it in their shop. I just love the colors- it taps into my inner girly self ha! 😘 . Today’s Surya26 hot yoga class was actually quite difficult, possibly because I ran yesterday in the freezing cold weather. My hips and knees were so tight that I could barely keep balance and stretch with some resemblance of grace lol! I did stretch after I ran yesterday, but I think sitting down for the remainder of the day making art and watching tv with my boyfriend stiffened things up again. . Ah well, I’m glad I did the class, and I think my joints are happy right now. Ma was a big conspiracy theorist. Too much free time led her to internet wackos pitching all sorts of dastardly deeds foisted upon the unsuspected public. Her hands-down favorite: Chemtrails. A plot by mysterious forces to poison us with chemicals, or something to that effect. . I must admit I went blah blah fluffy when she would launch into her filibusters. Ma was super creative and a lot of fun, and I was never sure if she meant it or was just amusing herself by watching me suffer. Still, it kept her from launching into her other favorite topic, Boris the Bat Boy. . I was sitting on the bench today trying to pretend today’s run was a good idea when I saw them. The sky was painted with contrails, streaks of white across a pale blue sky. . Military exercises? Random flights on a Sunday morning? Maybe. . Or maybe Ma just wanted to say hello. Hard to say. You see this face?! This is the face of one tired, stressed out mumma! The last couple of days have been quite tiring with Aria being unwel, I've never seen her like it and it's been hard for me to leave her side. So just a slow run for me tonight and it didn't turn out overly well, my knee, calf and ankle have given in and I am now in a lot of pain! Maybe my body is just telling me I need to have a good old rest, but my head is telling me to get out for fresh air and run off my frustration! It's quite hard fitting in exercise as a single parent. Instead of snow it’s been pouring rain all day so I put off my run hoping it would stop. The first sign of it switching from downpour to sprinkle and I was out the door. Of course a few minutes later it was coming down in buckets. 3.1 soaking wet miles done just in time for the temps to drop from the 30’s to 20’s ... expecting single digits by morning so all of this water will be ice, ugh!
The Traveler Workout Here’s the workout I did today in the hotel gym in NYC. 1. Start with a 1 mile run or 10 min walk at 7.5% incline 2. Shoulder Press & Rear Delt Fly (Keep knees bent, it’s not a push press, so avoid using using your lower body) 3. Single leg deadlift on right with upright row. 4. Single leg deadlift on left with upright row. 5. Lunge on the right, Pass Through and Single Overhead Press 6. Lunge on the left, Pass Through and Single Overhead Press 7. When you live in the Central California Valley one day is sunny and the next is cloudy🤷🏽♀️. So, it was cold and foggy this morning during our 4 mile run🏃🏽♀️ 💫💫💫 We did 3 runs this week and finished week 1 of our new workout program (6 high intensity 20 minute workouts) and Our legs felt better than we expected today! We are simply trying to build our endurance back to 13.1, cross train well, and fuel our body accordingly. We are training up for the Yosemite National Park Half marathon in May. So, that gives us plenty of time to build up the miles. For all of the races we’ve ran, we have always trained only 3 days a week. We replace the high mileage on our legs with cross training and high intensity workouts. 💫💫💫 I think this is the first week EVER that I’ve worked out 7 days in a row and I feel good. When I think about all those athletes pushing their bodies to the extreme, this is nothing! Rest, proper nutrition, and hydration definitely pay off! 💫💫💫 You can do hard things!!!!

Ramsey is a big powerful boy and neither he nor his owner Miriam have run before but he paid really close attention to what was happening at the end of his lead and this duo worked really well together. Mari, the real MVP! Running 12 miles with me after recovering from the flu! My uterus felt like it was going to explode 💥 and I would’ve quit after 3 miles if she wasn’t there with me 😂. Oh and this time I didn’t have to 💩 😁. Phew!!!
Train in the worst conditions. Run your best in good conditions. Want to know what it's like running in a feel like temperature of 17° after snow has melted and refroze? Go put on your tennis shoes and go run on an ice skating rink. This picture is exactly what happened to me today. I did pretty good running on the grass to skip slick spots or hurdling over ice covered snow mounds. Except the one freaking time a car is right by me and I leap over a snow mound and slip on ice. One half of my body went in the air. The other caught myself. I am glad I could give someone a good laugh today😉
The lack of posting only means one thing... all my workouts last week were either in #pitchdark or on the #biketrainer 😜 I had a rather successful first week of #halfironmantraining . I always find transitioning from #run only #training to #halfironman hard. It’s very easy to always get up at the #crackofdawn and mindlessly go run. It’s much harder to plan the #cycling (either has to happen during daylight outside or after the kids wake up) and #swimming (only during the workday). I’m still trying to find my rhythm but the first week included 4 runs (42k total) and 3 #trainerrides (60k total) for a total of 6:55. No swimming yet but I’m aiming for one swim next week 👍 #im703greece is coming up soon 🤩
INJURY UPDATE: Friday I went in for an ultrasound and I felt so confident. My knee hasn’t been bugging me and the pain has disappeared. I told Chris and John (the sports specialist I’ve been working with) so they decided to put me on a treadmill. I lasted less than two minutes before my knee completely gave out and the pain kicked in to over drive. Needless to say, I left feeling defeated, limping and in excruciating pain. I’m going on six months dealing with this injury and it’s been really hard. While my motivation completely disappeared, my determination has come to the surface. Never give up on something you can’t go a day without thinking about. Monday, I’m scheduled for nerve testing (not looking forward to it at all) and the following Wednesday I’m scheduled for another steroid treatment and than that Friday treadmill testing. Patience is the name of the game right now.
