So I’ve been thinking about goals lately. Last Sunday didn’t go to plan, and maybe a summer of running in the heat will help straighten me out but for now I’m looking forward to my next goal, and something a bit out of my comfort zone! I’ll be running the 10k at the @scottishhalfmarathon and aiming for a new PB of 48 min! You guys I haven’t raced a 10k since before I moved to London 😱 and I have absolutely no idea what my potential is, given that I rarely run much faster than 10 mile to half marathon pace in training, but I figure nearly 2 minutes off my PB is a reasonable place to start as far as goal planning goes 😛 (truthfully, though, I don’t set a firm goal until about 2-3 weeks out from race day, since it’s important to train at your fitness level, rather than a fitness level you want to be at!) I had a blast meeting up with my girl @marlenatemplet and her Marathon Fest friends for a solid 10 miler this morning. 3.1 of our miles were for the @projectpurple Steps for a Cure virtual 5k, which benefited their pancreatic cancer patient aid program and funding critical research towards a cure. Marlena and I have both lost loved ones to this awful disease (her father in law and my dad) so it was great to share some miles together for a great cause💜 It was also great seeing some of my fave runners out there @mamabear_runs_marathons @heatherunz @runnerjen0506 and @allylee23 Now it's errands with my kiddos then their last regular season baseball game this afternoon⚾️ Happy holiday weekend everyone🇺🇸
I’m usually not a race recap kinda girl but my recent 10 miler race (Colfax) was monumental for me. My head phones didn’t work. I didn’t have a friend with a similar pace to run with. I usually pass the time with my favorite play list or talking to a friend. I was extremely nervous to know I’d be running without a soundtrack or company. However, I felt strong and happy most of the race. I heard @aprilstone29 saying “Go girl!” I heard @keepwalkingfatty saying, “You got this!” I heard my friend, Gabi, telling me how to hold my arms. I heard @lindsley_kump telling me, “You are faster than you think. Keep it up.” I realized I wasn’t alone. My tribe was there with their advice to keep me pushing. It probably my most emotional finish, besides my first 5K. I thought about my daughter, Gabi, and her new running journey. I am thankful for what my body is able to do. I can do more than I could 10 years ago. I can do more than I could 100 pounds ago. For me, running isn’t about being fast. It’s about health and improvement. Thank you for reading this. 💦💦💦💦Longest run since Boston - 13.5 miles on rolling hills, hot and humid temps. I thought I wouldn’t need to bring water, but that was a mistake. Thank god for sprinklers and some water/Gatorade for some runners with two miles to go. All I could think about when I was running was sprinting right to the fridge to grab @protein2o 13.5 at 749 pace. Started out relaxed and then dropped it down. 886 feet of gain, so hopefully this will be good prep for Hotlanta half in 2 weeks. I have tried so many different ways of being able to have water with me on my longer runs. During the winter I'm fine, but as soon as the humidity starts going all crazy, I can't run without water no matter how hydrated I am before I start. I think I have finally found a winner! This belt stayed put for all eight miles this morning and DID NOT BOUNCE 🙌 . It was nice not having to stay close by and hit up my mailbox for water every few miles!
5km #recoveryrun today. Avg pace 6:02/km Avg HR 136bpm. Yesterday I got 10 glorious, pain-free miles 👍. Today I got 5km not so glorious or pain-free 👎. I was a bit naïve in thinking I could just dive right back in 😂. I probably should have taken a rest day after yesterday's effort. Came in and stretched and did ITB exercises. Foam rolling planned for tonight and tomorrow and hopefully I'll be able to have another pain-free run Monday after some rest. I just need to be patient as I build this strength up in my hips/glutes and in the meantime I'm grateful for whatever pain-free miles I get 🙌 Last week I got 4 runs and only today's was uncomfortable. That's the most running I've done in a long time so YAY 💃. And while I'm not completely out of the woods yet I've definitely made a huge improvement and am glad to be getting back at it 😊🙌 #grateful.
