Okay let’s be honest, humans have and are the most damaging species to this earth. Agree or disagree? We would love to hear your point of view below👇 - ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It all started with us and it ends with us. WE are the only ones that can make the change, and it starts with YOU, one small change each month or even year is all it takes, and if we all made the same choice the earth would thank us. - ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So stop with the negative mindset of “well if I change this one small thing it won’t make a difference”. Because it absolutely will 💕
Part of the #zerowastejourney is the willingness to take a new mindset on how we use things and how we can use (and even reuse) different things for the same purpose. Now shifting to these kinds of #toothpowder and #toothpaste from @zerobasicsph I love the mild minty flavor of the tooth powder and the fresh feeling after using it 👍😀 These are contained in glass jars which you can repurpose or you can have it refilled by #zerobasicsph when you get to visit them in their popup markets. So goodbye toothpaste plastic tubes. #refusesingleuse#reducewaste#notoplastic#simplygreenandnatural
Hey Tribe, it’s #mineralmonday !💎 Today’s crystal is the, Red Coral Stone. It is said to help with symptoms of depression, and overcoming nervousness/anxiety. It also is known to heal acne & “purify the blood”. Best if worn as a type of jewelry or kept in a bag/pocket! Red Coral is found in tropical environments, but mostly mined from the Mediterranean Sea’s Corallium rubrum.
#repost#10yearchallenge is a great way to see the drastic changes that happened worldwide. #animalextinctions : It's estimated that between 0.01% and 0.1% of all species become extinct each year. Doesn't sound like much, right? There are around 2 million different species which will mean that around 200 to 2,000 species will be extinct each year! This means that in the last 10 years THOUSANDS of animals have become extinct. #deforestation : Last year, Amazon deforestation was at its highest levels after 10 years. Between August 1, 2017 and July 31, 2018 date shows that around 7900 square kilometers or 3050 square miles of rainforests were cleared. This is a 13.7% rise of kilometers cleared compared to the previous year. To give you a better perspective, the loss represents an area 134 times the size of Manhattan! Unfortunately, this year, in the first day in office, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro stated that he will use his time in office to increase the access of extractive industries in the Amazon rainforest. Within hours of taking power, the new president transferred responsibility for recognizing indigenous lands to the ministry of agriculture who has ties to the agribusiness. This will result in a drastic increase in deforestation and violence against indigenous people. #climatechange : Antartica ice melt has accelerated three times as fast in the last 10 years. Ice loss in Antarctica has increased to 252 gigatons (a gigaton is one billion tons) per year. Not to mention #plasticconsumption. Did you know that 260 million tons of plastic is produced every year? #refusesingleuse#environment#climatechange#oceans#nature#saveouroceans#savetheearth#savetheplanete#ecofriendly#bethechange#planetorplastic#plasticaction#breakfreefromplastic#beatplasticpollution#cleanseas#oceanchangemaker#reducereuserecycle#instaocean#instaearth
New year, new #zerowaste planner, "new" #secondhand fountain pen. I got this planner from @wisdomsupply.co after years of searching for a #lowimpact planner for work. (Not an ad, I bought it myself.) I lost my bamboo fountain pen on a work trip to Chicago, so this fountain pen was a Christmas gift (eBay) from my Brother-in-Law. It is from ~1950s! #shopsecondhand
“Research increasingly suggests that trying to promote behavioral change through fear can be counterproductive, leading to anxiety or depression that results in an issue being avoided, denied or met with a sense of helplessness. However, in education, news and fiction, stories with positive role models and which focus on the positive outcomes of solutions are much more likely to inspire action to solve it.” from Environmental Storytelling Can Help Spread Big Ideas for Saving the Planet via @ecowatch. In response to Facebook’s #10yearchallenge, environmentalists began hacking the hashtag using #thereal10yearchallenge with images highlighting the changes that have been forced on the planet over the last 10 years due to climate destabilization. This is one of the most strategic and poignant uses of hashtag hacking that I’ve seen in quite some time - riding the wave of internet trends to redirect a conversation and have it go viral is a beautiful thing to watch. As much as I appreciate it for its form and execution, I almost feel like #therealreal10yearchallenge might actually be in imagining what we want the world to look like in 10 years from now, providing a positive narrative with which to guide our train away from the cliff we are currently heading towards. The #climatechange report released by the @ipcc in October of last year stressed that humanity has just over 10 years to mitigate the effects of a runaway failing climate. What is necessary at this time is for environmental and social change organizations to unite around a cohesive global campaign that paints a holistic picture of where we need to be in 10 years from now and where we CAN be if we start acting on and implementing the changes we already know are possible. Be careful what you storytell. It just might come true (more on that in my next post which is going to expand on this in a super nerdy way that involves my training as a film student, omg I can’t wait. Any excuse to actually use my
'Plastic Today, Pollution Tomorrow' by Nakul - ▶️ Listen to Part 1 and swipe right for Part 2 and Part 3 ⏭ - Those of you who have followed me for a while will know by now how much the issue of Plastic Pollution concerns me. I have a wide range of feelings and opinions on the matter and have been and always will be an advocate for the cause. Later this year, my audio poem collection series will be releasing however in the mean time, I am focusing on releasing a few specials. The specials will be on topics and organisations that are personal to me. One of which is of course Plastic Pollution. - I truly believe that life with as minimal use of plastic as possible is very possible. I am well aware that plastic is essential for certain things but the amount of plastic that is used for no good reason is astounding and damaging to our planet. I believe the best way to make a difference is by making using non plastic substitutes for all the things we end up using plastic for. - My poem reflects on the facts, the effects that Plastic Pollution is having and will have in the future. It's an accumulation of my feeling towards the issue that threatens this amazing planet we share. I am delighted to share my poem 'Plastic Today, Pollution Tomorrow' and I hope you enjoy the listen and take something away from it. - #plasticpollution#passonplastic#plasticpollutes#poetry#poem#poetrycommunity#plasticfree#refusesingleuse
Americans throw away a total of 14 million tonnes of textiles each year. 🚮 If the industry doesn’t change, and it’s fashion business as usual, the apparel industry’s climate impact is expected to increase 49% by 2030. ↠ less than 1% of material used to produce clothing is recycled into new textiles and 1.4 quadrillion microfibres are estimated to pollute the ocean as a result of laundering clothes. Reflect and rethink your choices ! 🌿🌍 #lowimpactmovement#ecorootslife#sustainablefashion

“I'm convinced that if we are to get on the right side of the world revolution, we as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin the shift from a thing-oriented society to a person-oriented society.” — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 🕊 • • Happy #martinlutherkingjr Day! One of my favorite days of the year, as it reminds me of the importance of service and stewardship and that we can all make a difference, among many other things. Dr. King’s actions not only led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965; his work paved the way for environmental legislation such as the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act. He recognized that many of the struggles of his time — including racial inequity, poverty, politics, health, and human rights — were inexorably linked. Thank you to everyone that supports this effort and takes 5 minutes to love where we live and visit! 💕🌊🚮

And now we discover that tea bags have plastic in them 🤔. والآن نكتشف أن أكياس الشاي تحتوي على بلاستيك ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We drink regular or herbal teas for their health benefits but little did we know that the tea bags contain plastics that are possibly leaching into our hot drinks. Pressed tea bags (the fancier types that come without a string) are made of 20 to 30% plastic, while the basic string and tag bags are made mostly of paper, but still contain some plastic to make the fibers stronger or the tea bag would disintegrate while steeping in hot water. There are currently no reliable studies measuring how much plastic actually leaches into our hot drinks and the health implications are still unclear. So to stay on the safe side, we would rather consume loose leaf teas. What about you? Would you still prefer the convenience of tea bags or would you rather spend 5 more minutes to prepare loose leaf tea? Let us know in the comments below ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ نشرب الشاي العادي أو شاي الأعشاب لمزاياه الصحية ولكننا لم نكن نعرف أن أكياس الشاي تحتوي على مواد بلاستيكية ربما تتسرب إلى المشروبات الساخنة.
Have you heard of BedZED? Built in 2002, it was (and remains!) a pioneer of the eco-village concept. In its 100 homes, innovative design reduces energy needs and taps solar power. BedZED has gone down in history as the UK’s first large-scale, mixed-use sustainable community. It has been an inspiration for low-carbon, environmentally friendly housing developments around the world. BedZED’s biggest and most important success is that it remains an attractive and popular place to live, demonstrating that a large shift towards sustainable living doesn't need to entail sacrifice and discomfort. We all need to start thinking a whole lot more about our homes and how we've decided to live. A couple of us are from the EU so we're particularly passionate about seeing the size of standard huge homes decrease (America & Australia, that's you with the biggest in the world!) as that also allows for more sustainable and environmental solutions to be implemented along with increased community - and a lot less stuff to buy to keep in them :)
We spent the first two weeks of the year on an island group in South-East Thailand. You know, these postcard places with beautiful beaches, amazing food and incredibly friendly people. Yet what I’ll remember most is the ridiculous amount of waste that is polluting this paradise. The beaches, rivers, streets, the ocean; all full of trash. We started cleaning up Long Beach on Koh Chang with a group of travelers and filled more than 500 trash bags in less than a week! They were eventually burned due to a lack of waste management system. More plastic arrives on shore every single day, carried overseas from God-knows-where, turning the beaches into dumpyards. We met some wonderful people while cleaning and had a lot of fun doing it, but this has been a painful reminder of how humongous the planet’s plastic problem is. So, sorry for the not so idyllic travel pictures but it seemed important to share this story. At this rate there might not be any unspoiled places left to visit in the near future... #plasticplanet#plasticsoup#beach#cleanup#pollution#banplastic#takeaction#thailand#travel#trashteam#refusesingleuse#saynotoplastic#noplanetb#plasticsucks
Plastic Pollution- It's not just about us. The increased presence of plastic on the ocean surface has resulted in serious problems. Most of the plastic debris that reaches the ocean remains floating for years and doesn't decompose quickly. It leads to the dropping of oxygen level in the water, severely affecting the survival of marine species. Humans created the problems but it impacts all living creatures and the entire planet. This home is not just ours, it's theirs too. . . .
