The rituals of sacrifice in the Torah reflect more than a different theology; they reflect a different approach to human psychology. Sacrifice forced the ancient Israelites to confront those aspects of human experience we flee from - grief, loss, and powerlessness. How can we use this as a guide for our own work towards self knowledge today? My sermon on Parashat Tzav. Chag Purim Sameach, to YOU! 🎭 I rarely, if ever, post personal photos on here because hey, I know most of you are following for the goods 👕 BUT with Purim beginning tonight, I reflect upon another holiday and, for me, celebrating it with my littles & teaching them about our traditions (and FOOD) are among the most important & special parts of it 🤗 So, with that, I leave you with this photo of 2 very special little sets of hands hamantash-ing -- one set concentrated on folding, and the other undoubtedly focused on tasting ❤️

We can't think of anyone better for our first post than Rabbi Sally J. Priesand, the first woman ordained as a rabbi in America! Rabbi Priesand decided to become a rabbi when she was 16 years old and was ordained on the Cincinnati campus (@hucinci) of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (@hucjir) 46 years ago. Three ideas that are central to her rabbinical style are empowerment, humility, and leading by example. She is an expert in the field of being a pioneer and says that a challenge that she has overcome in her rabbinate is learning to be herself without worrying about how her actions would affect the concept of women in the rabbinate. Rabbi Priesand loves to teach about Regina Jonas (another pioneer and remarkable Jewish woman!) and says that her favorite biblical character is, "Eve because she chose knowledge and wisdom over life in the Garden of Eden." All of the #womenrabbis who have followed in Rabbi Priesand's footsteps are grateful to her for her courage and leadership! #thisiswhatarabbilookslike#womensrabbinicnetwork#wrn#jewishwomen#jewishpioneers#reformrabbi#rabbi#reformjudaism
