CELTIC FROST - Tragic Serenades 12" 1986, and Switzerland's heaviest are about to dive headfirst into the progressive pool. Before they do, however, one last blast of high-power, high-velocity black thrash to tide us over. There are no real new tracks here, but all three are revised versions of cuts the group didn't feel entirely realised in their previous incarnations; I don't really follow that stuff too closely, prefering simply to throw this on, crank it up, and revel in the off-kilter sturm und drang that Frost brought like no other. That said, if you're a fan of Warrior's usual bizarre vocal exclamations, you're bound to enjoy the ridiculous 'party mix' of 'Return to the Eve'. Although a confirmed fan for decades, my appreciation for this outft's idiosyncratic brilliance has only increased in recent years. Accordingly, I've been working on reacquiring their classic slabs, dismayed by how tough it is to procure records that you could hardly give away twenty years ago, so I was well surprised, and beyond stoked, when a sympathetic friend dropped this on me yesterday afternoon. Needless to say, such provenance only makes this top-notch metal scorch burn all the darker. This is the 1986 Canadian press on Banzai. #celticfrost#thrashmetal#blackmetal#deathmetal#artmetal#metalrecords#banzairecords#recordcollecting
Two things....first, I love Joan Jett! Great artist, rock and pink rolled into one great package, always been a fan. This greatest hits package I believe came out in 2010 on vinyl, nice retrospective going back to the Runaways. Second thing....I saw her st the infamous Tornado Jam in Buddy Holly park, Lubbock,Texas in May 1982. That's right, last century. A huge storm blew up out of nowhere with high wind and torrential rain, mud everywhere like a mini Woodstock! Joe Ely, Linda Ronstadt, our queen Joan ripping it up. Danced on top of our cooler with a girl named Susan. One of my all-time favorite days. You shoulda been there.
Beth and Cinde - Cross Country (1977) And to tack another entry of obscure Idaho country/folk to my board, I got this female duo of songstressas to represent a little bit of différance in this catalog. Now on the surface, this mostly follows and feels of a pretty typical country western typa set, with that expected tinge of private press pasteurization, but there are some gleaming moments of songwriting that come on the tracks penned by Cinde Borup, one half of this equation. Beth Pederson also shores up the vocal harmonies and takes the lead on other less-original songs. Beth and Cinde have a couple of other albums too, and continued in their musical partnership until Cinde’s early passing in 1998. Beth still seems to play around some but not nearly as much as she used to, a hometown hero sort.

In a world controlled by bad edm and mumble rappers, or rappers that tell the kids that self medicating is good, THERE IS STILL HOPE. @racetraitor kicks you in the ass, educates you and urges you to go to the streets and take action. Or as they say “we are your multicultural nightmare”. #racetraitor. And oh yeah #poppunk kids. #falloutboy ‘s #andrewhurley is murdering the drums on this one. #fob

And with great records also come great disappointments. Some of these aren’t bad, they just didn’t bring what i expected. • the story so far - proper dose (@purenoiserecs). A bland copy paste of every other song with some added effects • the wonder years - sister cities ( @hopelessrecords ). No closer the heaven had the same problem, after a few months i lost interest. • quiet slang - don’t even remember the title (@bsmrocks @polyvinylrecords ). A purely overproduced egocentrical vehicle with awfull vocals • teenage wrist - chrome neon jesus (@epitaphrecords ). Not a bad album, just boring and repetitive after a while • hopesfall - arbiter (@equalvision ). I love this band and i love their back catalogue. But i fell off after A types and I expected more than i got. But this album is still way better than 90% of music being released. I just expected something else i guess. So purely my fault 😂. • wstr - identity crisis (@hopelessrecords ) sometimes the title says it all. • glassjaw - material control ( @redmusic ). It doesn’t do a whole lot for me. I also don’t dislike it, it’s just meh. So this was it. Excited to see what 2019 will bring #aoty
