I generally spend most plane journeys flitting between watching the clouds, reading and daydreaming. This one though was dominated by the book I'm holding here, Queenie. . . . Have you read Queenie yet? . . . I put it off a little while because I had a hardback and so didn't want to carry it around, but as soon as I opened it I raced through, I think the whole thing was over in a few days and now I am left missing these characters. You know the kind of book where the characters are so intimate and relaxed and open from the start that it feels like when you meet people and know you'll be friends from the first sentence? I hope I can bring something of this to my WIP. . . . Also, does anyone else cry more easily on flights? It can't just be me right? Something to do with the altitude.... . . . Also, I think I'm a bit late, but I read about the #inspire_and_create thread on @storisse 's post, so here's my tepid take on the From Above theme and I'll try and get more creative with the next one! :)
Every once in a while the pest control people will come to my house and... do the magic. So I’m not supposed to be there for at least 5 hours because of the chemicals. So where do I go and what do I do???— ‘revise’ for my #owlsreadathon2019!!! 🦉 . Starting with my Charms subject today— The Book Thief by Markus Zusak!!! You have no idea how excited I was that the wheel of what chose this book 😂❤️ . I decided to buy this book because I was watching @Zoe herdt’s #24hourreadathon and she was crying while finishing this book!!! So, I thought, I HAVE TO GET THIS BOOK . Pssst!!! Any The Book Thief readers mind telling me what I should look out for?😂
If you’re a reader ... raise your hand and tell us your favorite spot in the house (or outside the house) to read? Nevernight is the fourth book that I read during my holiday in Greece (can I go back please?). I was a little intimidated by the size of this book as well as the footnotes in it, but I ended up really liking it. I liked the story as well as the characters and I just skipped the footnotes 😅 (I read somewhere that it was not absolutely necessary to read them). Now I’m excited for Godsgrave! 🤓
#nosspotsdelecture . “Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.” - Lemony Snicket, Horseradish: Bitter Truths You Can't Avoid . * ** * I discovered Daniel Handler, aka Lemony Snicket, through the TV show “Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events” that I finally a-do-red (after a first apprehension about the staging). In the end, I binge-watched every season cause it was so damn gooood😂! I did not read anything about him but it would interest me a lot to have one of his books in my hands! 📖 Do you know his work? Have you seen the TV show / movie or read one of his novels?
My place to rest & rummage nearly every Wednesday, in the waits between doctor appointments. It's not just the books that bring me here over & over ~ this spot is one of few places you can exist as a person & not a customer in Sydney. Somewhere you can spend 3 minutes or spend 3 hours in. Somewhere you can go just to sit or use the bathroom or get a drink of water. It's basic human compassion but it doesn't feel basic to me. There are places (closer to the hospital) that are almost hostile if your illness is too apparent, if you look exhausted, if you promise you'll buy something, you just need somewhere to sit & catch your breath for one minute. Fuck those places & their shitty coffee. . . *Yes, these books are for sale but I always feel like their price is the amount the shop would part with them for; they're just as happy for the books to remain as they are. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . @ampersandcafe #chronicpain#chronicillness#cafe#bookshop#library#readingspot#invisibleillness#ampersandcafe#bookstore#secondhandbooks#bookshelf#bookaesthetic#wherethetiredgirlsare#disabilityawareness#books#bookcommunity#bookstagram#aussiereaders
#qotd🖤 Have your curiosity level rises on seeing something suspicious around yourself ? 📓Well it's good to have some unless it exceeds the limit. "The inquisitive" by Hemant M. Kulkarni is quite a similar tale. . 📓As the name says, the story is of a highly inquisitive person named as Mohit Prajapati. From his childhood he was often scolded by his father for being so excited to peek in matters, that have nothing to do with him or that could sabotage his own peace of mind. But this inherent quality doesn't leave him either. . 📓 In Mumbai he met a doubtful girl at two places which somehow aroused his inquisitiveness again. The more he tried to keep himself far from all these dubious situations, the more intensely he got indulged. Relentlessly trying to find answers to his questions, would he be able to reach to conclusions ? What if he himself fall prey to some undesirable situations ? . 📓The author has very well created a suspicious plot. The curiosity was maintained till the end. The way he has moulded the circumstances was amazing. Through his story, he has pointed out how the illegal and illegitimate brothel's business has been carried out in metropolitan cities. . 📓Though the ending was not much convincing. It ended very smoothly which was not something expected. The story was carried out with utmost suspicion but the end was not up to the mark. Some questions remained unanswered too like why Nisha has committed suicide all of a sudden or would her family ever get to know about her demise or what did Glen work for ? So overall, it's a nice book to read.
MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS!! 🚂💨 . Well well well, I’d have to say there was no way I would’ve foreseen THAT plot twist and THAT ending!! And now I’m wondering if all Agatha Christie’s books have this kind of twists!! . I was so stressed reading this because I really had no idea who the murderer was. There wasn’t even one occasion where I suspected the right person to be the murderer, lmao. Definitely a mystery to me 😉 . So an update on my #owlsreadathon2019, the ‘textbook’ I had revised for Potions!!— definitely a 5🌟!!! (For that freaking plot twist!!) . Also as I’ve mentioned before, this book was my Mom’s and it was nice that I could re-share with her on the ending of this book. The last time she read this book was about 37 years ago!!!
Yesterday I finished Big Little Lies, just in time to watch the latest episode of the second season! This book was so good, I wish I’d read it before I watched the show so that the ending would have more of a shock for me 😕 Oh well! It was still an awesome story, especially since many of the details and other storylines were different than the show. Like both Madeline’s & Bonnie’s life situation was much different in the book; they went further into both of their backstories so that you understand their worldviews and motives. I loved it! As soon as I finished, I ran it down to my neighbor who asked me about in on the beach, and I’m very excited to hear what she thought! And now I’m on to the next... I think. I’m having a hard time deciding what I want to read!!! I have so many choices 🙈 I’m still reading the Killing Eve series on my Nook and I’ve had a harder time getting through it. I have the second one buuuuuuttt I’m thinking about taking a break, who knows 🤷🏼♀️ . . . . . #readingspot#bibliophile#reading#beachreads#currentlyreading#biglittlelies#bookworm#books#asaltierbookreview
Team dog ear? or Team NO dog ear?⠀ ⠀ On my own books hands down I will dog ear the living shit out of them, even if I have access to bookmarks. If its a library book or borrowed from a friend or even if I plan to give it away at some point I try not too. ⠀ ⠀
