I read an article today on the 5 Common Mistakes That Cause New Habits to Fail and there was one that stuck out to me most—seeking a result, not a ritual. If you want a new habit you have to fall in love with the ritual, and worry about focusing on the behavior rather than the outcome. Most good things take time to develop. If we get stuck focusing on the outcome, we might give up before it ever gets here. Which brings me to another quote I read, “people lose because they want things fast, when life is long.” I just thought these were too good not to share in case you needed to hear this too. Always learning, always growing.🌱 I’ve fallen in love with the ritual of going to the gym. It’s what I look forward to on a daily basis. I remember exactly when I committed to my goals. We used to take walks as a family after dinner. My older sons (only 7 & 5 then) had new bikes, and were ranging further away from us. I had a choice: either slow them down, or get strong enough to keep up! I want to help other dads make their own choice to grow more fit with their families. This is important to me, because it lets us do more as a family, and it lets us set the example our children will grow into.
