✨TRIED EVERYTHING TO LOSE BODY FAT?✨ . I hear you! . Often when we embark on a fat loss journey, if you will, we try and overhaul our whole lives over the space of a few weeks, only to become exhausted, frustrated and give in at the end. And we go through the cycle continuously until we decide something gotta change! . I have 5 key components for fat loss that I coach my clients through so they can develop healthier habits *over time* to achieve the goal they’re after. . 1. A CALORIE DEFICIT. The base or foundation of fat loss. If you aren’t in a calorie deficit CONSISTENTLY over X number of weeks or months, you will not lose fat. If you haven’t been losing fat, this is why! We do this in 2 ways... we often accidentally underreport what we are eating therefore genuinely not realising that we’re not in a calorie deficit. Or we decide to go super low calorie, only to realise that’s it’s unsustainable, become ravishing, and binge the fuck out at some point or another 😬 . 2. Weight training. Yes, you’ll hear me say this time and time again! If you want to lose body fat and change your physique/shape then weight training is the way forward! It will help you burn more calories and look leaner and firmer 🍑😝 . 3. Sleep. Your quality of sleep affects your cortisol levels aka the stress hormone which can cause us to store excess body fat. Our energy levels will also dip which can affect your motivation to go to the gym, stay active, even the ability to make healthier food choices as we’ll often opt for convenience when we’re tired. . 4. Stress. As mentioned above this will increase our cortisol levels and can cause excess fat to be stored, especially around the abdomen. . 5. NEAT - non exercise activity thermogenesis. So your 10K steps a day and general movement you do out with the gym. We weren’t made for sitting all day! The more you move, the bigger the impact on energy burned over the course of the day and overall wellbeing. .

First of all, the hip thrust uses the gluteus maximus (the upper glute muscle), gluteus medius (the lower glute muscle), the quadriceps, and the hamstrings. I think this is my #transformationtuesday post! The picture on the left I had lost around 35lbs in Sept 2017, picture on the right is from this month, Jan 2018. . The picture on the left I had JUST started walking 2-3 miles at a time a few times a week consistently and I was occasionally doing a workout video on YouTube. I was cleaning my diet up more & more and my products were becoming less & less toxic. . Slow & Steady is how I kept going. I resisted my natural tendencies to want overnight change for fast results (I didn’t workout & over do it and didn’t eat crazy clean all at once bc at the time I didn’t love it🤷♀️) but little changes led to a forever change. Now I love working out & eating well to fuel my body. Not perfect, But I’m very mindful of how I respect & treat my body. . . 🌿❤️#progressnotperfection
I kind of hate exercise. And Anxiety. Did you know that about me? I should share that part of me more often. I sincerely like DREAD exercise on most days. Like seriously. I am pretty darn good at coming up with reasons why I don't need to do it or why I just don't have time. And sometimes that crap in my head still wins and I skip. (Not for long though, because I have a community of people that call me out on my crap if I don't show up for long. I am THANKFUL for them!) But ANYWAY--I have had some anxiety creeping in the past few weeks with work, busy schedules, homework with the kiddos and just LIFE, I have have wanted to just skip it all together and I kind of like to just RETREAT when I feel like this. But I was sitting here getting anxious again, for no apparent reason and it suddenly HIT me. Like what the flip am I doing? Talking myself out of exercise? Like seriously what if I no longer had the ability to move my legs? What if I was injured in a horrific spinal cord injury, suddenly paralyzed? I would LONG to just take off and run. What if I had a horrible diagnosis that lead me to endless treatments and no energy?---I would LONG to just take off to just get up and move my body What if My physical health was taken away?---I would CRY out just to be able to have the freedom to be "normal" again. And I stood up that very moment and shook the negative thoughts from my head. I tugged my leggings on and marched down to the basement repeating...its just 20 minutes...I can do 20 minutes. It started out hard...at some point thought I thought I couldn't go on...but I did. And by the end it felt like FREEDOM - not work. It felt like a CELEBRATION of the present moment. And I FELT ALIVE!!! I looked up to God and said "THANK YOU" for giving me another day on this earth to CELEBRATE what my body can do. Do you feel ALIVE today? Are you wasting away in your negative anxious mind? You don't have to live like that. It's your CHOICE. CHOOSE TO CELEBRATE!!!

Don’t ever let what scares you stop you from continuing to go for more!! I remember that April/May 2016 crying during my first workouts where the idea of holding weights and balancing on my leg seemed impossible!! Yesterday, I J U M P E D WITH TWO FEET! The only times I’ve jumped up until now was only using my left leg!! And I was still able to walk today!! I have been sharing my fitness journey for almost three years and I will continue to share each victory, each struggle, each new venture I try....why??? Because my life continues to improve full circle: mind, body, spirit! And I believe 100% that you can change your life in the direction you dream of if you are willing to take a chance and fail and faith it forward!!! I had the most amazing weekend this past week. Swip right to see all the pictures. Friday was a work day without students and I was able to go out to lunch with a few friends. We had a good time just talking about anything and everything and being away from the school. Friday night I got to go downtown and do a live workout with @shaunt. ShaunT was the trainer of the first home workout program that I really committed to. It was this program that lead me to health and fitness coaching. The workout was awesome even though I accidentally hit Shaun as he was running around in the crowd. Sorry, Shaun, I didn't see you. The highlight of the evening though was when he told me that he liked my outfit. Thanks for helping me pick it out, guys. He hugged me and I got to tell him that I had started with CIZE. As I went to walk away, he grabbed my hand and thanked me for allowing him to be a part of my journey. I wasn't able to tell him, "no, thank you, Shaun" because I was too overwhelmed. (I was also trying to get out of the way so that the line could keep moving.) I could barely keep back the tears. So thank you @shaunt for creating a program that was fun and kept me wanting to keep going. I decided to keep the awesomeness of Friday going. So on Saturday I took myself out to breakfast, went shopping, and went to a movie. So much fun!
What describes my work, and where do I want to go? How do I feel when I'm shooting? How do I want others to feel? ↟ Why am I asking myself so many questions?!!!???? ↟ Today I tried to write a mission statement for my photography. I sat down and brainstormed. And doodled. And scribbled. I wrote. And rewrote. And reworded. And deleted (joke...I delete NOTHING). It took quite some time, but I finally believe that I came up with something that expresses a facet of my heart. ↟ My mission is to forge moments in which people feel they can truly embrace themselves, one photograph at a time. ↟ I don’t want people who are pressured in nearly every avenue of their life to feel that they have to pose a certain way in front of a camera. I don’t want people to plaster a smile on their face if that’s not how they feel beautiful. I want people to actually *feel* beautiful. Because they *are* beautiful. Who wants to share a picture of themselves that they were uncomfortable in? What a waste of time! Just as I believe in spending my time enjoying things that matter and that are important (as I mentioned in yesterday’s post), I want others to enjoy their time too. If the one thing that brings us together is photography, I want it to be a fun, positive, and memorable experience! ↟ So that is my mission statement. It’s small, but concise. And that’s a feat, as I can get quite wordy. My statement may change over time, as may I, as may my goals. I can’t imagine how, but only for the better!
I don’t know any hard facts about this, but I feel like a huge percentage of the population has procrastinated in some major ways. Whether it’s a project at work or an assignment for school, I feel confident enough to say that we’ve all been procrastinators at one point or another. I know I’m guilty of it! As a student, I would say “as long as I get an A, I don’t need a perfect score” and I’d slack off like crazy.🙄 — But here’s the thing. Procrastination is not a form of laziness...it’s a form of •selfishness•. We choose to NOT do what we have to do because the not doing it offers us temporary relief from the stress of having to do it. It may not be this extreme, but if you think about it, we procrastinate because we don’t want to do whatever it is. So we do something else, typically something that brings joy or relief, right?🤷♀️ — What are you procrastinating on right now? I promise you, the relief of getting it done is so much better than the relief of putting it off for a while.👊 — It’s easy to procrastinate on your health because it allows you to relax instead of workout and eat pizza instead of chicken and veggies. But wouldn’t you rather hit your goals and then eat pizza and fully enjoy it guilt-free? Yoga flows, upper body strength, a little cardio. . . It's funny. In a way, I've been working out "more" in terms of the length of my workouts. However, they've looked a lot different lately. 30 Days of Yoga with @adrienelouise's #ywadedicate, for example. Also, downloading the studio @toneitup has changed the game completely. I'm just choosing workouts that I want to do. Things that push me but feel good and FUN. . . The #tiuloveyourbody series adds another layer to everything, though. What a great time to really acknowledge what makes you YOU. What sort of movement makes you feel the most empowered? Why do we push it too far when we need to just accept ourselves and modify a move? How can we eat and work out to make ourselves feel our best? What can we do to let ourselves know how worthy we are of love...not even from others, but from ourselves? . . Give yourself grace. Be kind to yourself. Know that you are powerful and wonderful and made of love. Treat yourself like that's all true (because it is). 💙✌ . . Love and light, friends.
WARNING - Kinda late, but hey, there’s some cursing in this post! . . “It’s a waste of time, so fuck fear.” - Jakob to Jean (@gilliana) on @sexeducation . . . *SPOILERS... kinda* I can’t tell you how wonderful I think this show is and how I wish we had a second season to take in, absorb and learn from like the first. Jakob, Jean’s handyman, asks her about why she hasn’t written another book and she suddenly and openly talks about being scared to do so. Jakob responds to her with this, leading her to sit down and begin hitting down thoughts which leads to a possible new book.. which inevitably doesn’t go over well with her son. Those vulnerable moments of Jean’s—a well established sex and relationship therapist—were refreshing given she is providing most of the guidance and suddenly someone is asking HER questions, asking her to open up. It feels very vulnerable for her and you see her defense mechanisms go up, but the content is so relatable. . . . You’ve heard me talk about fear a bit more lately on my Instagram. It’s a big driving force in my everyday life: fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of hurting someone and the fear of guilt (weird concept, but real for me)... One of the ways I hope to combat fear is to get over my fear of talking about it. Face it and get vulnerable with you. Because, there are few people I’m connected to here that I actually interact with in person and yet, it feels more comfortable with you because of that. Those of you I know? Well you get the bonus features that not everyone else gets... 😉 I know I’ve also been talking a lot about @brenebrown but she also talks about facing fears and it truly has resonated. . . . 9 weeks pp ➡️ 9 months pp . . We are getting there. Slowly but surely! That's the thing. This journey is slow and steady. And I'm okay with that! ....Now. * That didn't used to be the case. I used to want to just diet, workout super hard, lose 10 pounds in a month. Instant gratification. Except I would just quit when I didn't see the results I wanted. I was THE definition of a yo-yo dieter/fitness junkie. * Until I found this full solution. It literally has everything I've ever needed, and now I've been on my journey for almost 3 years without giving up on myself. * I'm so blessed that I found this opportunity before pregnancy because I was able to use the tools and knowledge I've gained to help me THROUGH pregnancy and now my postpartum journey. * Would I like to get back to pre-pregancy weight? Sure! If it happens, great! If not, I won't work any less hard on myself. * I NOW see a beautiful momma in both of these pictures. One is just a tiny bit smaller, stronger, and has a 20 pound baby on her hip. 🤷♀️ . . Love where you're at RIGHT NOW, not where you wish you were. And know that you, my friend, are beautiful. 💕
My daughter’s birthday is tomorrow, so I had some quiet time this evening to reflect on the past 2 yrs...Boy does time go fast!! I can remember taking that top left picture the morning I gave birth to her. I was sooo excited to meet my precious baby girl!!💕 I had no idea just how much my heart would grow that day!.🤱🏻. . I also had no idea how much I would change over the next 2 yrs. The picture on the top right was the morning of my 1st postpartum workout. I waited a full 8 weeks before I began to exercise. Prior to that I was on pelvic rest at 22 weeks & then bed rest at 35 weeks. Let’s just say my body needed to ease into working out. But little by little, day in & day out I carved out a little bit of time for me. During nap time I would get the baby monitor & get to work. With hard work & lots of patience I began to see changes. I focused on improving my nutrition, following workout programs & meal plans. Over time I began to see progress. Both my mind & body were getting stronger. I was forming healthy habits, not just for myself, but for my whole family. 👨👩👧👦 Everyday that I was able to push play, was another day of gettting closer to being the best version of myself!❤️. . The bottom left picture was exactly 1 yr ago from today & the bottom right is at the end of 2018, after all the busy holidays.🎄I set a goal at the beginning of the year to make it my best year. I wanted to push myself to live a healthy & fulfilling life and I met that goal!! ⭐️...I look at these pictures & see the progress on the outside, but what you don’t see if the huge amount of progress I made on the inside. ❤️ My heart is filled with so much gratitude each day because of the healthy lifestyle I am living. 🙏🏻. . See when you start with the goal of being healthy, you have no idea how much that mindset will filter into the rest of your life!!✨....I look at these pictures and feel proud of my journey, but I feel even more excited
I reflect on these side-by-side photos. I look at the girl on the left. Unhappy, unhealthy. Depressed from years of chronic back pain. Masking my pain from everyone so I could live up to the fun-loving, social butterfly expectations. Slowly dying inside. Becoming a wife & mother. Knowing things had to change. It wasn’t just about me anymore. 😕 I look at the girl in the middle. Alive! Awake! LIFE TRANSFORMED!! 💯 Grateful! Not from a quick fix diet or magic pill or endless hours at the gym, but from actions taken, habits formed, mindset shifted. Disciplined. I feel guilty for even posting this 🙈 Swipe 👉 . To Erica and Mike 10years ago, for Pete’s sake 😆!! We were engaged, our days were full of chaos and hustle so the fast-food-baby face is of no surprise 🌮 Working 40+ hours a week and going to nursing school full time meant I was in survival mode, so I told myself 2 coffees a day, convenient foods and scarce physical activity was totally justifiable 🤷🏼♀️ . Now we have 2 babies, busy careers, a blog, a side business, actually cook food 🥘 (I’d be lying if I said I liked this part 🤣) and we continue t strengthen our relationship with God every day. This #transformationtuesday may look a little different than most. Is there a big transformation between these pictures?! Nope. But that is the POINT! 6 months separate these pictures. In those 6 months, I enjoyed myself, celebrated holidays, enjoyed taco and marg nights, and got through some stressful times this fall. So how come I look the same? One word: CONSISTENCY. That is my only superpower. Oh, and having awesome programs that work, a nutrition plan that doesn’t make me “diet,” and a community of kick-butt ladies to surround myself with. 💪🏼 Never in my life have I been able to get results, live life, and maintain them for 2 years. Maintaining is probably the best feeling ever, because that means I said GOODBYE to all that “falling off the wagon” stuff...for good! You can have your own transformation too! Last night I had my first full blown panic attack in a VERY long time. This was/is frustrating. I have had panic attacks since 16. I understand how the anxiety game is played. Im speaking for myself, as an "old veteran" of GAD. To feel as though I "finally beat it" is (for lack of a better word) silly. There is nothing to beat. There is only maintain. Last night i must admit I felt like I failed. Because a trigger had sent signals in my body to feel overwhelming fear. 1 trigger. 1 night. And i felt like I failed in all the years of progress. I had forgotten the night before and the night before that and all the other nights I did not spiral. I told myself, "this means youve gone backwards." It doesnt. Nor would that be any logical conclusion I would determine in a client or friend. Somedays my body will react in this way. HOWEVER, I am not my anxiety. I am Jamie. Who happens to have anxiety. Others may attempted to make me feel that way, simply because they may not have understood. Some days will be better than others. It is what I do in those moments that are important. Old pros at anxiety, youre doing good. Please do not do what I just did, and allow your bad days define your overall progress of mental health.

Day 1 to Day 365! 💪💪 . This exact day one year ago, I woke up at 7 am to workout while on vacation in a casino's gym! It was Day 1/80 of a brand new program that I was dying to try! First of all, waking up on vacation to "exercise" is (used to be) very challenging. But I knew in another town & another state, there were a tribe of ladies cheering me on that day! Little did I know that on Day 1, my life had been changed forever! This isn't your normal transformation post showing just some physical changes. This transformation is beyond measure! Menatally, spirtitually, and emotionally, I am a brand new person. The old Megann no longer exists and that girl is not allowed back into this world! . . The gal on the right is the new me! Stronger, less stressed, less anxious, less depressed, less judgemental, less questionable of her purpose & her worth. The new me LOVES myself more than anything in this world! All because of a decision I decided to make that Monday morning while on vacation. . . Jan 15, 2018, I set two goals for myself.1. Lose 30 lbs in one year. 2. Show up every day for myself. Here we are on Jan 15, 2019: 1. Lost 25 lbs in one year. 2. Did not always give it my best but I showed up EVERY SINGLE DAY! . . The old me would of crawled in a whole knowing I didn't meet what I thought was my biggest goal. (YOUR WEIGHT DOES NOT DETERMINE YOUR WORTH) The new me is PROUD AF that 1. I lost 25 flipping pounds even during all the holidays, vacations, parties and champagne filled flutes I consumed. 2. I showed up for those who can't both physically and mentally. 3. I joined a community of super amazing ladies who have forever changed my lives. 4. God created a masterpiece and I fine tuned it! . . To the new me, I AM A BADASS. I AM WORTH SO MUCH MORE. I AM FULL OF LIFE AND PURPOSE. I AM INSPIRATIONAL. I AM A CHILD OF GOD. I AM ME! . The power of an accountability group is indescribable. This past year we stood by each others sides, both in person &
HARD. 🔥. . Today’s workout was K I L L E R... BUT, our trainer PROMISED us that if we could make it through today’s workout, we would be able to make it through the entire program. 🙌🏼. . So I embraced the hard. I pushed when I thought I couldn’t go any faster, and I took a breath when I needed it, but got right back to work. 👊🏼. . Every day won’t be pretty, but each day you COMMIT to the hard, you grow a little more. 👏🏼🙌🏼. . Side note: if you think you can’t get a solid workout in just 20 minutes... I’m not saying it will be easy. It will be hard. You will be tired. It will push you. It will make you get uncomfortable. You’ll be sore. You’ll have to dig deeper. You won’t always “want to”.
