Another 2 lbs lost this week 👌🏻 I wish it was coming off a little faster, but given what I’ve been dealing with, I’ll take it.  Between sick kids and sewage backup in my basement 🤢just for example, I’ll take it.  I’m grateful for the Keto WOE because it allowed me to run my ass but also quickly eat something like some salami and cheese and be satisfied. YES. I always say that slimming world is about making better choices & thinking before you pick what you want to eat. Essentially a lifestyle change that stays with you even when the weight is gone. (One day I will be in that position I swear 🙈) For anyone that’s read my previous posts I talk a lot about guilt & feeling bad when I go off-plan... this is something I’m very much working on & I’m also trying to listen to my body... am I eating for the sake of it? Am I eating cheese just because I’ve got the HEA left or because I’m actually hungry?  This week I’m going to make sure that I have the best 5 days I can before weigh in, walk everyday (leave the house), and ask myself the question when I want a snack... do you want an apple... if you don’t want the apple you aren’t hungry! So drink some water & be quiet ha.  Anyway sorry for the long post, I just needed to think out loud a little to get myself motivated & back to it.  I’m making healthy choices! I finally had a chance to take my 80 DO progress pictures!!! Oh my goodness do I see a HUGE difference!!! It’s only about 5 pounds on the scale difference, but I’m just thrilled!! My morning routines, in A-Z, working for myself 🤗 To wake up and throw on my active wear first thing to get my 20-30 minutes of exercise done first thing is where it’s at. It prepares me mentally physically for the day ahead so I can give my son and anyone else that I encounter with all my energy and I am usually on my A game! . Where are my early risers?! 👯‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️ . I’m here & on plan! Just not had a chance to take my usual photos because Percy still isn’t well. Let’s talk postpartum weight loss! Though it’s probably something we shouldn’t even think about right after giving birth we all do! When will I get back to my prebaby weight? When will I fit the my old jeans? Here are some secret/no so secret tips.  1. Treat yourself with grace and patience. Most countries in the world pamper the new mom and do EVERYTHING for her for 4-6 weeks postpartum. Here in US we put such a high standard and demand on ourselves to be back at everything by six weeks. That’s not the global social norm nor should it be. With proper rest and recovery you will bounce back better and stronger. 2. Your body may never be quite the same and you might need a new pair of rockin jeans postpartum. Even after the baby weight leaves (and it will) your body may be different. How could it not? Your body has now accomplished far more than your young prebaby body ever could have hoped to achieve! Be proud! Skin may be looser, hips may be wider, but you can still totally reach your postpartum health and fitness goals! 3. Protein shakes. In May I told my husband that I didn’t want to have to wear my maternity shorts anymore. So I threw those suckers in a trash bag along with anything else that I used during my pregnancy and sent them to Goodwill. I’ve had these shorts  for two years but obviously haven’t been able to  wear them . So my goal was to be able to fit into these shorts by the end of this summer. And wouldn’t you know it’s only mid summer and not only could I button them but they fit just right. The less that I obsess over how much I’m doing,how much I’m eating or not eating , the easier it has been for me to drop these last few pounds. Do I exercise, run, jog as much as I should no. I used to be so insecure about my tummy after babies. I used to feel like the loose skin, stretch marks and imperfections were all anyone was looking at. And I’d even hear women say, “oh, I was SO lucky I didn’t get any stretch marks during pregnancy” 🙄 . Really? . I’ll tell you what’s lucky....it’s lucky that you got pregnant in the first place, because 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage—and that’s for the “lucky” that actually get pregnant. Many struggle with infertility and don’t even have that chance. Also, I’m “lucky” that I have had healthy pregnancies and children, as many do not. . But, no, you are not “lucky” that you have no stretch marks or loose skin....those are badges of honor, and don’t dictate whether you are somehow better than the moms who weren’t so “lucky”. The truth is, most of it is genetics, anyway. . So mamas who were “lucky” to not have perfect skin after pregnancy, I’m talking to you. Be proud, hold your head high and wear that two piece with pride (or one-piece for all I care). Your confidence is much more beautiful than anything else. . And gosh dang, those babies were so worth it!! ♥️ . Tag a mama who might need this message today. 😘
Sautéed Soft Shell Crab {2sp} & Honey Balsamic Brussel Sprouts {2sp}  We spend a lot of time on the eastern shore so my family loves all things seafood. One of our favorite things to do on a warm summer day is pick crabs with a cold beer. I didn’t discover the soft shell crab until a few years ago, but now if I see it on a menu I always order it!  My husband requested them for Father’s Day dinner & the hardest part about the whole meal was finding a store that carried the crabs. Big breakfast to get me through a busy day of errands, chores, and entertaining an 8 month old and a puppy. 😂 Three slices of Sara Lee 45 cal bread toasted (3sp) with Alouette garlic & herb cheese spread (3sp), and scrambled eggs with 1/4c of light cheese (2sp) all topped with a dash of TJ’s bagel seasoning! And of course my trusty 2sp protein iced coffee! 😋
This is my day one. The heaviest I have ever been. I am choosing to stay anonymous for the time being but here is my story. . . . I gave birth 12 weeks ago to a healthy baby girl, from the jump I just KNEW I would have the bounce back (especially cause I was breastfeeding), WRONG GIRL. I am here to tell you that breastfeeding may burn extra calories but they forget to tell you your cravings will be 10x worse than they were during pregnancy. (That’s my case anyway). I dropped down to 168 after birth but the cravings got to me!! I am currently 21 pounds away from my pre baby weight. That will be my first “goal” to meet. I have just completed my first serious bit of exercise since having Mia aside from walking. I feel the time is right now to start proper exercise because I’m feeling right within myself after birth to get stuck into it.  I completed a 10 minute kettlebell workout, which may not seem a lot but I need to start slow and start somewhere. In the past I would do too much too soon and then just give up because I put myself off but this time I’m determined to do it right. Even if that takes longer. The line of “good” nutrition is often blurred by an outpour of information (from both experts, and amateurs alike). To simplify things a little bit for you, when you think ‘Macronutrients’ - think Carbs, Proteins, and Fats! These are foods that need to be consumed in larger quantities, on a regular basis. . When you think ‘Micronutrients’- think Vitamins and minerals. These are nutrients that are also important, but can be consumed less frequently and in smaller amounts. . CHO’s are broken into simple & complex forms. Overall, the function of CHO’s is to provide your body with energy, to promote digestive, as well as heart health and to help to preserve muscle. Yes, carbs can come from foods such as baked goods and junk foods but they can also come from great, good-for-you foods such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables! . Protein’s function to provide growth, structure, maintenance and regulation of body tissues and organs. They carry out many functions throughout the body and are broken down into “amino acids”. Proteins can be found in a variety of foods such as meats, beans, fish, vegetables and even some fruits! . There are many different types of fats! Fats can be important in helping to provide energy and support cell growth. Fat also works to protect organs and keep you warm. Some micronutrients rely on fat for absorption, proving that fat plays an important role in your overall health. Yup, I work out in my basement. Or my living room. Or my bedroom. Wherever is convenient really.  And it's 10.000 times better than going to a stinky, packed, dirty gym where I have to drop my kids off with a stranger and then walk around without the slightest clue what to do OR wait for equipment, because like I said - packed 🤮  Not really my style and not to mention, ain't nobody got time for that!  I'm just like you. I've got a lot on my plate. Full time job, two kids I need to keep fed and clothed, a fiance with the same requirements (although to be fair he's been doing a lot of the cooking lately 🥰), swim lessons, baseball practice, doctors appointments, grocery shopping, birthdays, camps, two dogs, and oh did I mention I have to take care of myself sometimes too?  Girl we've all got a full schedule, but we've all also got the same 24 hours in a day. It is up to you how you use it!  Do you spend 2 hours a night watching "your show" or scrolling social? Do you hit the snooze button just cuz you don't FEEL like getting out of bed?  What do you do to take care of yourself? Do you think you could wake up 30 minutes earlier for a 20 minute workout? Stop scrolling for just half an hour to focus on your health?  My boot camp is open and we're waiting for you! You've been watching my transformation, now it's time for yours!
What to eat for breakfast when you are pregnant? Or if you just had a newborn and are so busy its hard to get good food in? I get a lot of people asking me how to eat vegetables when they are pregnant or shortly thereafter because they find it really hard to stick to their pre-pregnancy eating habits. I also find it incredibly hard. ⠀ ⠀ This pregnancy was not only difficult in the first trimester but still at 34 weeks I have never gotten my appetite back. One thing I do every day is drink a green smoothie with just kale, lemon juice and some fruit. Ryan actually makes them in bulk on the weekend so we can pull them out of the freezer the day before and it is no time in the morning when we are getting ready and I don't have to think twice about it. ⠀ ⠀ I honestly don't love drinking them when I am pregnant so I usually drink it in the car because driving provides a slight distraction 😄 As long as I drink this in the morning, I know I at least got in a lot of good nutrients for me and baby (both during and after pregnancy). Even if the rest of the day I don't eat as well because I feel sick. ⠀ ⠀ We modify the Glowing Green Smoothie by Kimberly Snyder (that is where I originally heard about it).⠀ - 2 bunches of kale (stems removed)⠀ - 2-3 cups water (depending on how thick you want it)⠀ - 2 apples⠀ - 2 bananas⠀ - 2 pears or 1-2 cups pineapple (this fruit rotates depending on what we feel like)⠀ - Juice of 3 lemons⠀ ⠀ Blend kale and water and then add the rest and blend until smooth. Everyone loves a fresh start on a Monday! We are on to our 2nd day of road tripping as we make our final drive to Vermont & I made good choices at the hotel breakfast bypassing waffles and bagels, for oatmeal, yogurt, and some whole grain toast. 💪We’ll be spending the week visiting @kbuoni who is always a great healthy eating influence! Posted this in my stories yesterday but I am super proud so I am posting again. My #motivationmonday is myself 😂. I am pretty proud of my body for continuing to build muscle despite being so inconsistent in the gym. With working and having a young family (kids 8 months and 3 years) it’s hit or miss if I will get 1 day at the gym or 3. I try to make the best of it and not let it get my down. Can’t wait to see what I look like in another 8 months !
Yes you can!  If you’re thinking you can’t because you have medical issues , or you’ve never done something like this OR even worse .. you’ve just given up on yourself and are settling for what you think is how your suppose to live .  To that I say .. no  That girl on the left .. Yupp she was settling .. I just had a baby .. I wasn’t thinking about myself .. I had just accepted that this was my new body and it’s how it was going to be.. I was watching someone though.. just like you are sitting there watching me.. and eventually I decided I was worth more then settling .. I needed to take care of myself so I could take care of others.  So I reached out .. I found my why.. and I took a chance.  Was it easy? HELL NO Did it take work? HELL YES  Do I still put the work in.. 2.5years later ? So Monday is always a good day to start again!! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️. 📍save this to get back to the basics.  I feel like sometimes we get caught up in what looks “cool” that we forget about the benefit of the basics. So that’s what today’s workout was!  1️⃣warm up squats. Light weight, just to get the blood moving and all my joints warmed up. I do 3x10 of warm up sets.  2️⃣squats. This is my working weight at the moment as I am still rehabbing a knee injury. It’s 95lbs but, I am all about form over weight. Anything heavier than this my knee would start to cave or wobble. On top of not wanting to further injure it, it’s not necessary to push myself to heavier weight of the reps and tempo is changed through the week. The strength will come back in time.  3️⃣deadlift. When deadlifting, make sure your shoulders are rolled back so you engage your core and your back. Keep your back flat (engaged core) throughout the move, this will protect your lower back from being pulled or tweaked. Push your hips back, hinge, and don’t use bounce the bar at the bottom to get back up. Pull your hips all the way through at the top.  4️⃣sumo dead lift. Same cues as above, except your feet are turned out and wider apart. This really works your inner thighs.  5️⃣hip thrust. This is a MUST to build your booty. It’s one of my favorites. Load the bar, slide under it, position the bar across your hips, make sure your feet are shoulder width apart and at a point where they will be 90 degrees when you press up through your heels. Keep your chin tucked and squeeze your glutes to move the bar up and control it back down. Core activation is vital here as well.  I did 5x10 of all these exercises minus the warm up squats. POSTPARTUM CORE/DIASTASIS RECTI WORKOUT✨  You asked, you received! 🙌🏽 This workout is not only Diastasis Recti safe, but it’s made to actual HEAL it.  Diastasis Recti is a condition in which both halves of your abdominal muscles split open due to pressure of the growing baby. This allows for your organs to protrude through forming a tummy bundle or pooch. It doesn’t happen to all women, but for some.  These moves are also good for strengthening the pelvic floor & your Tranverse Abdominals. You have to rebuild your core from the inside out after pregnancy and avoid moves that could worsen your DA.  The transverse abdominis, also known as the TVA muscle, is the deepest innermost layer of all abdominal muscles and is located underneath your rectus abdominis. Think of it as the “corset” of your body. During pregnancy, the pelvic floor and TA keep your belly from dropping to your toes. The TA and PF, together with the uterus, work to push your baby out during delivery. - Moves to avoid for Diastasis Recti: Front Plank Twisting moves such as a Russian Twist Crunches Sit ups - How to check for DR: Lie on your back with your knees bent, feet flat on the floor Place your fingers with the palm facing you on your belly button Lift your head and neck just slightly off the floor while you press down with your fingers. If there is a gap, that is the diastasis Conduct the same test just above your belly button and just below the belly button.  How to do the moves: Complete each move slowly and controlled while focusing on belly breathing. Aim for 20 reps per move, 3 times.  #abdominalseparation #postpartumgoals #postpartumbelly

Friends... we aren’t enough. And that is such good news! Despite the trendy cultural mantra of today, telling women, especially moms, that they are “enough”, we honestly just aren’t.  We sin, we fail, we get overwhelmed, we will never have it all together. And that’s not enough.  As nice as the world’s “I am enough” mantra is, it’s not beneficial nor helpful to make a mom believe that merely looking inside herself for everything she needs will fulfill her.  Culture wants to tell moms that they can settle for their life as it is because they’re enough?  I find that so patronizing. As if we needed the permission of the world, or an exercise program, or a social media influencer to give us permission to believe we are enough. We don’t need validation or empowerment from anyone. Except Jesus. And... why in the world would it be a comforting thought that my imperfections and failures and sinfulness is “enough”? I am so relieved to embrace the fact that I am not enough.  I don’t have to strive for perfection that I’ll never attain. Why? Because I’ve found the One who is perfect and enough. And He, Jesus Christ, came to this earth and died for my sin and became enough for me.  I can take all of my not-enough-ness and fall at His feet totally dependent. And He picks me up and makes me new and becomes my enough. In my weakness He is strong.
