Just in case you are not yet on my email list, three weeks ago I posted a little story about my very first two books I made when I was 10, in anticipation of a family “Tour of London and Englang”. Check out the blog to read the short story (scroll down two postings) @barizaki #bookbinder#paperlover#ephemera

"Från din syster lycka till julen. Jag önskar dig allt gott jag kan till dig." (Swedish) → "From your sister, happiness for Christmas. I wish you everything good I can for you." 12/25/1907 There are several noticable changes to the Pioneer Square (referred to as "Pioneer Place, Heart of Retail Business District" on the card) area since the time this card was sent, on Christmas Day over a century ago. The red-brick Pioneer Building (1892) and Tlingit Totem pole (1899) are visible, as is the Hotel Seattle- replaced by the "Sinking Ship" parking garage in 1961. The iconic iron pergola would be built on the square in 1909, with the Smith Tower rising to dominate the skyline 5 years after. The message itself is also noteworthy. I'm confused as to why someone in Seattle would send a postcard to their sibling, presumably also in Seattle. Also, according to my translation (crowdsourced from Reddit), the message is oddly worded and contains a couple phoneticized misspellings (licka-->lycka, sister-->syster). It's possible that the sender of the card was a 2nd generation immigrant or a non-native speaker and didn't have a complete grasp of Swedish.
Snail Mail 🐌. I bought a bunch of blank postcards from amazon (of course 🤦🏼♀️) and set out some Valentine’s Day stickers (a lot thanks to @lovepipsticks ) and some markers. The girls are having a blast decorating their blank canvases and we will address them and send them out soon. What kid doesn’t love getting something special in the mail created just for them! 📫✉️
