Plant of the week: Yellow Birch (Betula alleghaniensis) We’re staking out and planting yellow birch today and adding more diversity to our silvopasture system. Yellow birch is one of our favorite trees and can live to be 150 years old. We’ll be caging these up as we go since deer love snacking on the saplings. Yellow birch is a popular timber tree prized for its wood, you can tap it to make delicious birch syrup, and tea can be made from the twigs and inner bark. #hornfarmplantoftheweek#yellowbirch#plantingtrees#reforestation#silvopasture#regenerativeagriculture
There is an avenue of trees on one of the roads leading out of our village. Many are mature trees but to celebrate the New Millenium in 2000 I along with many other villagers planted more trees inbetween them. Image 2 is a Beech tree I planted in memory of my Dad ( I think the first one died so it was replanted) and further along there is another tree in memory of my Mum. I took these photos today, the sun was shining brightly... and not too chilly... and look at that beautiful blue sky. #afternoonwalk#bluesky#trees#inmemory#winter#avenueoftrees #beechtrees#hedgerow#plantingtrees
Recently, I got into an interesting conversation with a long time family member about a mighty tree that use to be in the backyard of our family house in the village which witches and other spiritual people claim to be a power house and responsible for evil happenings. Several times we(my family) stood by and protected the tree from being harmed by those spiritual folks but at some point we'd to give in as the accusations kept coming and deeply, we wanted solution to some of these problems our tree was accused of. After much trial they finally took the old Goliath down and now, they are losing their roofs to wind which the same witches are taking credit for. Can't count how many we have lost to such belief. According to @conservationorg "we need nature, nature doesn't" In my words "Let's stop destroying the house for the home" @bbcafrica @natgeotravel @nature_org #deforestation#photography#natureisspeaking#nature#naturephotography#trees#wood#africastory#exploreafrica#photojournalism#photoassignment#conservation#plantingtrees#africaart#contemporaryart#natgeo
Do you love Joshua trees as much as I do? I’ve left LA for Yucca Valley where I’m staying with my good friend, @theclocktowerrecorder. We’re recording and preparing for a show next week here in town with @cestclairemusic. There are so many beautiful Joshua trees in the area, I took a walk around the property yesterday morning and snapped a few pictures. Upon doing a little research afterwards I found this excerpt from a @natgeo article and wanted to share it with you as it relates the survival of Joshua trees to climate change: • “By 2100, scientists predict that Joshua Tree National Park will lose almost all of its Joshua tree habitat to climate change. But the Joshua tree relies on other species to survive, and a new study on the relationship between Joshua trees and a type of symbiotic yucca moth piles on the bad news. According to the study, yucca moths, which the Joshua tree relies on to reproduce, aren’t healthy in the few places where Joshua trees can survive the heat. “We’re finding that not only does climate change affect species, it affects how species interact with each other,” says Juniper Harrower, the study’s first author, and a graduate student at the University of California Santa Cruz.” • These trees are especially majestic. That article excerpt really made me feel the immediacy of our biggest problem, climate change. Theres so many species that are depending on us to make changes for their survival. There’s a few things we can all do in our daily lives that are more sustainable and climate friendly. I will try to share some ideas on my stories today. Enjoy the views. • • • • #plantingtrees#joshuatree#joshuatreenationalpark#yuccavalley#environmentalprotection#treeplanting#reforestation#protectourplanet#musiciansfortrees#climatechange#deforestation#nashvillemusician#touringmusicians#nashvillemusicscene#plantnursery#treefarm#treenursery#losangelesmusicians
Feeling bad about that beautiful pine tree in your living room? 🎄 To give thanks for the trees, for they give me paper and canvas, I plant one tree with iplantatree.org for every painting or product sold. That means you're planting a tree with each and every purchase! 🙏 Join me at iplantatree.org or go to my shop (link in bio) and plant a tree that way 💫 Thank you, you are amazing!
Reminiscing Steve Axford’s wondrous mushroom tour at our last ‘Big Scrub Rainforest Day’... 🍄 Mushrooms are the oldest living organisms with consciousness to inhabit the Earth. They contributed to our evolution & are vital to our future! They depend on the Rainforest for survival (as do we) & the Rainforest depends on Mycelium alike (as do we!)... Its a symbiotic relationship as with all of nature...
