Side Plank Hip Dips 馃挭馃徑 • • One of my go-to moves 馃ず to hit the obliques, do them correctly and you'll be sure to feel them working! • Here's a few tips with this exercise: • 鈥硷笍 Make sure you're aligned properly! Hips forward, glutes activated, grounded elbow stacked vertically to the shoulder. • 鈥硷笍 Feet positioning - I prefer having my feet stacked one on top of the other. If you have trouble executing the exercise this way due to balance, separate the feet slightly so both feet are on the ground. I've noticed having less oblique engagement doing this variation but it still works. • 鈥硷笍 Make sure to get full range of motion and tap those hips to the floor. Get those hips high at the top of the movement as well! 馃挭馃徑 • 鈥硷笍 Think about crunching through your obliques! That stretching phase is your hips touching the ground, your obliques have to work to bring you back to that straight side plank position. If you just move your hips up and down, it will lie to you and think you're doing the exercise correctly. Mind-body connection matters with this exercise, you'll get a lot more out of it if you focus on the obliques contracting you back up! • And there we have it! Daily Brent - 284  The core of the human body gets pulled in multiple directions, often at the same time.  It connects the upper and lower body extremities, or the parts that move and work for us. . Think about it, when you do anything with your upper body while standing on your feet, the center of your body must balance and stability to allow the upper body to move with strength or force. . So any time you grab an object with your hand and pick it up, strength is transferred through the torso. . The core muscles are pretty important…. Very important…. The core muscles are crucial to movement and human function. . This is why you should make sure the muscles of your torso are strong and functional. . You don’t have to spend all day in the gym, but you should be intentional about strengthening your core muscles.  Challenge their strength on a regular basis. . One great way to do this is by getting your core muscles involved in more of your workout sets. . Here, the lateral torso muscles are working hard during these chest press reps. . Find and hold your side plank, then press forward with a cable or resistance band so that your arm extends roughly parallel to the ground.  As you move through chest press reps, the lateral torso muscles are challenged to maintain your body position. . The bottom shoulder (stability arm) is working hard as well.  When you push forward to move the weight or stretch the band, your body wants to lurch forward as well.  Resist any forward and back body motion. Hold your torso still as you complete your reps. #pushups  Who doesn’t love pushups? Here is a fun twist on a traditional exercise. Add reformer resistance to increase the challenge to shoulder stability and strength. I used a blue spring on the #merrithew reformer but increasing or decreasing the tension changes the challenge.
