The earliest human powered treadmills weren’t seen in gyms or spas, they were found in prisons. These devices were constructed to mill corn, pump water, or perform other useful tasks while simultaneously serving as a form of punishment for the inmates. Flash forward a couple hundred years and some of you are still treating workouts like prison sentences. Working out because you are concerned with what other people think is like milling somebody else’s corn. Find a form of exercise you enjoy, set goals that excite you, and free yourself from the prison treadmill. Oporavak od takvih povreda zavisi i od same njene težine, pa prema tome distorzije dijelimo u 3 stepena: 🔹1. stepen - najlakši, gdje nakon par dana bol i otok prolaze 🔹2. stepen - nešto teži, gdje dolazi do parcijalnog cijepanja ligamenata (anterior talofibular lig.), umjeren otok i bol 🔹3. stepen - potpuna ruptura ligamenata, dio oko zgloba izuzetno osjetljiv i otečen . Another one (I'm saying it in the DJ Khalid voice, you don't have to...) for flexion range of motion. •while seated have your foot firmly on the ground. •take on some weight in your arms and push your body forward (try to make sure you're not pushing upwards as this will reduce your flexion) while making sure your foot doesn't come off the ground. •when you've gone as far forward as you can hold for a few seconds. •repeat (I'll usually aim for about one songs worth so 3-5 minutes) This is a nice alternative to yesterday's post for people who can't just lie in bed all day and put their feet up on the wall. Easily done from a desk chair so you can make sure you're still getting your rehab in while you're at work, school, etc. Important to be mindful that while this is a great exercise for your range it involves almost no activity for the muscles in your legs. So while I'm getting about 100deg of flexion here if I just try to bend my knee while I'm standing I can't quite get as much. So make sure you're balancing your range exercises with passive movement like this and more active work (unassisted heel slides for example).

⭐THORACIC MOBILITY ⭐ There are a ton of great ways to work on thoracic mobility but we must find our purpose. Often we lack extension with thoracic rotation. Typically we lack shoulder adduction and posterior length with thoracic ROM loss. This is a great drill to address all these deficits. The other great thing about this exercise is that it loads the posterior capsule of the hip with centration into the joint with adduction and IR. Give it a try. Use it as prep for transverse plane work and press motions. Isolate. Integrate. Perform.

Using pain science means a physio recognises the multifactorial complexity of pain and attempts to discuss and educate patients about this. . I use “pain science” everyday, but I also use “biomechanics” everyday! . Those physios who attempt to belittle pain science using lame, stupid arguments like “all they do is talk” do so because they are ignorant or scared. . These physio are scared to have difficult, awkward, and complex discussions with patients about pain. . These physios don’t feel comfortable or confident to talk to patients about psychosocial factors that could be having an impact on their pain! . These physios don’t want to open a rabbit hole into patients lives and feel uncertain how to help them. . 🗣People like to blame muscles for being weak. I hear this all the time from other healthcare providers, personal trainers, and patients themselves. I like to think of a weak muscle as a muscle that is incapable of producing enough force for the desired action. . 🏋Most of the time, especially when working with athletes, muscles aren't usually so weak... at least not to the exaggerated degree that people make it seem like they are. There are other factors involved here. . 💪MUSCLE PERFORMANCE consists of the QUALITY of a muscle's work including its ability to produce force, its endurance, and how quickly it can generate force... As opposed to WEAKNESS which consists of its lack of ability to produce force. . 🤔This is an important concept because the way you train a muscle should be specific to its impairments and lack of PERFORMANCE. . 👆I used the example above of hip drop and knee valgus because this is probably the most common situation I see people claiming weakness when it's likely more of a muscle performance issue. If we can cue the person to avoid knee valgus and dropping their hip, most people can correct it, but it might feel "awkward" or "harder" but with practice gets easier very quickly. . 🏃♀️This isn't a weakness issue, it has more to do with their quality of movement and lack of muscle performance of their lateral glutes. Yet, you hear people say all the time "your glutes are weak and that's why your knee hurts"... not EXACTLY. . 🧠Let's change our thought process and our language to better serve ourselves, our patients, and the psyche that comes hand-in-hand with the rehab process. . 🎯Let's not blame our problems on weakness ALL THE TIME... Let's instead build people up and use more CORRECT and EFFECTIVE language. This is the difference between a mediocre personal trainer and a doctor of physical therapy.
HAMSTRING REHAB The hamstrings are muscles that every one seems to stretch. But importantly, especially for athletes, adding strengthening exercises and loading is very important .
