Charlie is wrapped up in a “burrito” for his vet visit. 🌯 Going to a Certified Cat Friendly Practice makes such a huge difference for both of my cats and is less stressful for everyone involved! Pros of going to a Certified Cat Friendly Practice: ☑️They get your cat into a room right away if there are dogs in the waiting room OR have a separate entrance for dogs and cats (to minimize your cat’s stress). ☑️They spray Feliway in the room before the cat enters. Feliway is a synthetic pheromone that helps cats relax and feel more comfortable in a new surrounding. ☑️They play calming music in the exam room, which helps relax your cat and prevent them from hearing other animals in the clinic (which can stress them out). ☑️They use low stress handling techniques to minimize your cat’s stress for the exam/vaccines/gathering blood or urine samples. Typically this involves using a towel sprayed with Feliway. The way your cat is handled is SO IMPORTANT and can effect how they behave at future vet visits. ☑️Their #1 priority is making the visit low stress. If a cat gets too stressed during the visit, the protocol is to STOP and send the patient home with calming medication to take before the next visit. The idea behind this is to prevent trauma, which could worsen your pet’s behavior at the next visit.
