Some closer up shots of my series “Sisterly Love.” This piece, in addition to the illustrations, also features some of my creative writing. Captions are excerpts from a short story I wrote earlier this semester.

Day 16 - [ GASHADOKURO ] A giant skeleton today. With a graveyard on it's back. Since this creature supposed to be a manifestation of restless spirits, who's mortal shells weren't buried properly, I've decided to make things a bit more cozy for them. I've also missed the upload yesterday, but let's just pretend that didn't happen. So, to the next one. Have a wonderful time of day, people. Peace.
This is how I’m feeling right now. Inward-facing. Quiet. Alone with my thoughts. Trying to hold onto it as long as I can before the seasonal mural frenzy begins. ⠀ ⠀ Was talking to a artist friend yesterday who’s studio is in my same building. I was sharing how work has been slow this winter, but everything is about to kick into gear. ⠀ ⠀ He laughed knowingly- “The manic overdrive is about to start. The better of the two poles.” ⠀ ⠀ Making your living as an artist can feel like feast or famine all the time. Money rushes in all at once, then none at all for months. There are so many rejections between the successes. It’s no wonder so many artists are bi-polar! ⠀ ⠀ When I’m not “working” I work harder than ever. What I mean is- when I don’t have a big commission in progress (that I know will deliver a paycheck), I end up working double. I’m applying to calls, looking for mural jobs, following up with old clients, and trying to take the opportunity to push my own personal projects. ⠀ ⠀ All this is done in isolation. Talking to my building neighbor yesterday reminded me how much I need a professional community to keep me sane. Knowing that other artists go through the same things makes all the difference. ⠀ ⠀ Thank you @leo.shallat you’re a gem. You should all go follow his work- he’s amazing.⠀ ⠀ Who wants to join my artist support group? I think this should be a real thing. If you’re reading this far you probably want something like this in your life. Let’s do it. I’m sorta kidding and mostly serious. ⠀ ⠀ But for now- I’m going to fold up in a ball and let the California sun fill me up. The frenzy hasn’t started yet and I’ve got a weekend in the golden state to recharge.... Seattle- next time you see me I’ll be rocking a tan! I can’t wait. ⠀ ⠀ #gabrielleabbott#studio#artistlife#paschimottanasana#yoga#mandalaart#mandala#forwardfold#yogi#yogiartist#yogaart#seattleartist#penandink
