Paris Journal Excerpt (not negative, but real): This week was walking 15 miles a day in old, beat-up Keds, feeling overwhelmed with a packed schedule in a new city, and discovering my loss of faith in humanity. We had a single week in the infamous city of light—the beautiful Paris! I realized that traveling in large groups is a big no for me and that any trip with half the time spent waiting in line or on others just isn’t worth it. I was still able to squeeze in my sort of spontaneity and exploration, and those moments seemed to be the sweetest. Paris is an expensive trap, a cigarette smokehouse, and a disappointing arena of gropers and pickpockets. But Paris is also a glorious land of magnificent churches and museums, delectable pastries, and romantic language. It was a bittersweet trip—one that will forever be in the back of my mind. I found myself missing the peace of rural France, where I don’t need to worry about being touched or stolen from. I always knew the urban setting wasn’t for me, but this trip truly established that I’m not a city gal.

CONFESSION: 📸🎥 So I’m working on my website amongst 100 other things & I just wanted to write something that maybe some people relate to and that’s ‘learning from your mistakes’ and ‘growing from them.’ Taking risks that don’t come off. F*ck knows I made many of them in my 20s. So when I first started photography I was hitting and then I would miss a thousand times more. An example of this was when we went to Paris in the summer of 2012. A year after I bought my first DSLR. I saved up for a 35mm L lens & had it delivered just before I left. I was going to go to Paris and take the greatest shots I had imagined. The title for the whole project was called “Deception in Paris.” It was going to be a fashion film and a series of fashion shoots. I was going to accomplish this in 2 days with a small budget. No locations pre-booked. No plan of action. No hotel. Now I could pretend none of that happened and just post this dope ass clip (one of the only good things to come from that trip) See this in the way is the whole #igvsreality thing I see people talking about. I had the whole aesthetic & the creative mindset & references however I just didn’t have the main ingredient which is experience. It’s taken so many clicks of a button to get that confidence of knowing that every shoot I do will be of the standard I expect of myself. So with all that said thank the universe for giving you these opportunities to fail. Just decided that I’m going to go back to Paris this year & shoot “Deception in Paris” the way I dreamt it so many years ago. The young kid in me never dies... Ps. I just found the main model from this project @fanny_beladona please forgive me & thanks for teaching me a lot without knowing it🌹😘🖤

Les Français/French people: After feeling incredibly vulnerable from posting some of my most intimate thoughts and feelings, the guardian to my building pulled me aside to her petit jardin in the court yard and made. my. day! « Venez! J’ai quelque chose pour vous!» she said. She lead me to a flower pot with a single white flower peaking out from the soil. She pointed to the flower and asked me if I was familiar with violets. I nodded. My grandmother had planted them outside of her kitchen window in Minnesota. I remember the scent well. The vibrant blue color that stained the petals. She continued to tell me that « normally violets are blue and it is the incredibly rare violets that present themselves as a pale white. » She knelt down and gently plucked the flower from her pot. She faced me and reached out her hand...the hand that was holding this rare gem of a flower. « C’est pour vous madame. C’est rare est belle...comme vous ». My heart swelled. My eyes teared. I felt so special to this kind woman who I had only rarely said « bonjour » to...when I had the courage. There are many who immediately judge the French population for not being kind, open, friendly, etc. But I can honestly say that I have had many good and friendly experiences with the French population than not. Of course there is the exceptional few... »comme d’habitude » and with all countries, but in this instance i can proudly say that a woman who I rarely had interaction with, spoken too, and avoided a lot of conversation with to avoid embarrassment, had reached out to me, made me feel welcomed and loved although I had given back practically nothing in return. Expect a bouquet of flowers at your door madam...you are a gem. #expatlife#lavraievie#frenchpeople#frenchpeopleareawesome#paris#parisfrance#bonjourparis#france#parislife#parisienne#igparis#parisjetaime#flowers#americaninparis#lavieenrose#lavieestbelle#lemarais#lemaraisparis#parlezvousfrancais
