Does the work you do make your ❤️ go 💥? I really love my “job.” But I use that loosely because it’s never felt like a job. ✏️ Writing and branding allows me to work across so many different industries in so many different ways that every project really does feel like something brand new. I like 🍩, but it’s never felt like it’s time to make them.
I’m a sentimental person. I like surrounding myself with reminders of the people and experiences that have shaped the important and best parts of my life. I think my sentimental nature is part of why I’m drawn to capturing special moments and occasions for others. During weddings and elopements, partners choose objects- the shoes they wear, the piece of heirloom jewelry, the book they pass back and forth containing their vows. These items are so special to them, and because of that, the photos become like shrines themselves, sacred collages of the experience of their special day. . #basecampbouldering To everyone in the outdoor community and beyond, It is time to give back to the life we love and the activities we love to do. My good friend, Logan, is in the process of building a climbing gym in Ouray, Colorado but he can’t do it without our help. I’ve known Logan for a few years now. He is the head ice farmer at the Ouray Ice Park, so many of you probably know him too, or at least his work. Over the years he has put in an immense amount of time to make the park successful, and even against all odds and the turmoil of Mother Nature, Logan has been working to make it more successful each year. Watching him start this gym and knowing the amount of effort he puts in to the things he loves makes me so excited to watch this succeed. So please, If you have ever been to Ouray, climbed at the park, visited the mountains, or if you are a lover of all things outdoors and want to help out one of our own, this is a great opportunity. These are both pitches I led part way and then backed off this past weekend in Ouray. I could say it was the epic weather conditions, or that the routes were a bit thinner than anticipated, or that it felt too hard. But really, it’s just plain old lack of experience. And that’s totally ok. As much as I’ve climbed on trad gear and know my rock shit, I’m just learning ice and these were my first real leads. A little uncertainty was all I needed to downclimb and turn my pitches over to @pete_takeda to finish. And both times while following, I actually said fuck, I am so glad I didn’t lead this. It’s so important to know when you’re in over your head and to not let the pressure that you’re supposed to be strong enough get in the way of making good decisions. Does backing down mean I’m not strong enough for this? Hell no! But if my safety and my partners safety means choosing, I’d rather be smarter than I am strong any day. Thanks @sewinnature for patiently supporting the chilly lead attempts (and leaving me the ATC on top 😉) and thanks @pete_takeda for being the mentor that judiciously lets me fail but not in a mightkillmyself sort of way. 📸 @pete_takeda and @sewinnature. Had a great time with this crew, learning to ice climb in Ouray. Love it when you get messages like this: We drove through some serious snow on the way home, but the stoke was very much alive as we rolled into Flag. You did so much for us this weekend and I'm sure that we will all be back to Ouray for round two in the near future. Your sport is DOPE. #iceclimbingisdope#iceclimbing#ouraycolorado#permastoke#dope @peakguides
I met these two (@youknewmewhen) on an @elevationweddingsandevents styled shoot this past fall. A few weeks later they signed on without hesitation to lend their beautiful voices in song during a community vigil I organized for victims of gun violence. I was struck by their resounding “yes” when I asked for their help. The result was a bit of light and beauty in a sad, reflective and reverent setting. Just a few among many of the wonderful people I’ve met here. . . Image from 2018 Elevation Weddings & Events styled shoot
Great weekend of ice climbing in Ouray. Had an opportunity to learn a lot from some great CMC instructors. I also learned a lot of bad habits I still need to correct to become a more efficient ice climber. On a side note... I love the town of Ouray! I think I spent most of my time at the @redmountainbrewing which has amazing beer, food, service, and atmosphere. I mentioned before this might be my last trip to Ouray... but I think I have one more in me for the year. If you haven’t had the chance to check out Ouray... add it to the list!
