How has design made Peru a top destination for sustainability? A great read that mentions many of our go-to hotels, like @inkaterrahotels in Cuzco - built on an old training ground for an Incan army & many of its 16th-century features were restored by hand by Peruvian designer Denise Guislain-Koechlin.
#onassignment#behindthescenes#amazonia#natgeoyourshot#nowherediary#humanity_shots_#guayusa#everydaylatinoamerica#film#pueblosindigenas#guayusatea#theglobewanderer#everydayecuador#natgeo#runaflirts#filmmakerslife#onlyinsouthamerica#awfulmagazine#kichwa#allyouneedisecuador#natgeolatam#journalism#ecuador#amazon#ancestral#mothertongue#conservation#cosmovision#subjectivelyobjective#medicinaancestral
What a dream!!! I will never say I lived a boring life even so it was maybe in my 20, I was the most craziest and adventuress! Well to be continued, I will say nothing is decided yet! ;) Traveling is such an excitement, it tingles down my toes when going somewhere. It doesn’t need to be a big travel, sometimes it can be just flying home to the Alps of West Coast Norway. Being lucky to see the famous Geiranger fjord in above! Small things, but big excitement!! 😀
#throwbackthursday Honeymoon & horses edition! How perfect for Valentine’s day ♥️ This time last year we had just gone on a horseback trek through an Andean crater cloud forest just outside of Quito, Ecuador 🇪🇨 It was breathtaking - and I have all the details up on the blog!
Have you been to Rio’s famous Lapa Steps? What did you think? We really debated about visiting them and whether it would be worth the 30 minute cab ride there from Ipanema. .... The 200+ steps are covered in more than 2,000 colorful tiles from all over the world. The artist, Jose Selaron, was born in Chile and traveled to more than 50 countries before falling in love with Rio and settling there in 1983, in a house right by the steps. He began working on the steps in 1990 using whatever pieces he could get his hands on, constantly changing and replacing tiles. As his work went on, people began sending and bringing him tiles from all over the world. By 2000, the stairs were mostly covered and they began attracting international attention, appearing in magazines, commercials, and music videos. In 2005, the steps became a city landmark. .... Clearly, in the end we decided to visit the steps. They are quite a beautiful, colorful sight and I can see why so many people choose to visit them. But they sure do get crowded! And unlike other tourist attractions, the sight itself is what all the crowds are standing on. The neighborhood is also not the greatest, so you probably want to avoid getting there first thing in the morning when there are no other tourists. .... We got there a little after 8:30am and there were enough other people that we felt comfortable using our DSLR camera, but few enough that there was still an orderly line so that people could get photos on the steps without other people. But by 9am, it turned to chaos and crowds. I can’t even imagine what it’s like in the middle of the day. ... The steps are beautiful and I am glad we ended up going, but it was definitely a trek. And I don’t think it would be worth it unless you get there before it gets super crowded.
Check it out! The Arbeitman family share thoughts on their incredible adventure exploring Costa Rica's jungles and coastlines with us. ⠀ "I think it is safe to say we are madly in love with Southern Explorations and the service you provide. Not only have we been on epic adventures with SE before (Panama & Peru over 10 years ago), we have made some of our most cherished lifetime memories on these trips and now were able to share our adventures with our kids." - Elissa & Larry Arbeitman ⠀
There’s something about a moody grey sky that gets me – every time. ✨ This day was overcast from the start, with that not-quite-mist but not-all-the-way-rain drizzle that makes you dream of hot chocolate and a cozy sweater. ✨ We’d come up into the Cordillera Blanca to see the lake that I was standing on to take this photo, but sometimes the view is just as stunning when you turn around. ✨ Shot on @CanonAustralia 60D + @SigmaPhoto 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 lens | 18mm | 1/640 sec | ISO 500 | f/8.0 #canoncollective
