I've been craving some really good Spanish food and so we dropped by @cavatoronto for dinner. We started off with some pintxos and they were all delicious! The Supergilda ($6 each) was one of the highlights of the evening with its amazing contrast of sweet and salty. The base of the supergilda is a pan con tomate which is topped with a thick sardine filet. We were instructed to take a bite of the bottom layer first and were immediately swept away by the sweet taste of the tomatoes mixed in with the pickled sardines that had been honeyed and seared. The bread was crunchy and toasted with garlic which further intensified the flavours. We then took a bit of the gilda - a skewer which had a delightful salty, tangy and deep earthy flavour from the anchovies, green olives and mildy spicy Guindilla peppers. I could eat 10 of these and still want more. We also ordered the Gamay-Poached Foie Gras ($10 each) which was a bite of light creamy indulgence. The foie was poached with juice of Ontario gamay wine grapes which gave it a clean gentle sweetness and an incredibly soft and buttery texture. The apple mostarda on top added a bit more sweetness which also highlighted the flavour of the grapes. The Chicken Liver and Foie Gras Mousse ($8) was equally fantastic. The mousse itself was sweet, light and creamy with the chicken liver flavour coming through more strongly and the foie just helping to add a bit of richness and sweetness. The dish is served with toasted house-made crostini, gherkins and mustard. Be forewarned, the mustard is quite strong and I would highly recommend just adding in a dab... or alternatively, REALLY loading on the mousse. Some may wonder why I ordered both this and the Poached Foie Gras but they are both quite different. The Poached Foie is more clean, sweet and light while this Chicken LIver Mousse is more rich and earthy. Both are delicious. Get both. . 📌 1560 Yonge St Toronto, ON M4T 2S9 #grasshoppereatstoronto
