💥LOSING FAT BUT NOT WEIGHT?!💥 - 🙄Probably one the top 3 questions people ask me in the DM is “Dennis, I can’t seem to lose weight.. My body changes but my weight doesn’t seem to budge…" - My response is this situation most of the time is: “So your body is changing, you’re losing fat but you’re not losing weight? Why would you care about your weight when you’re losing fat?!” - But let’s dive a little deeper into it. What are the reasons you’re losing fat but not weight? - First, you probably gained some muscle mass because you started weight training seriously. If you’re gaining muscle mass, you’re going to gain some weight. Awesome weight!! Muscles!! - Water retention is a big one, eating more sodium and or more carbs in a day than usual will cause your body to hold on to water. But heck, who cares about water weight? I certainly don’t and you shouldn’t too! - You ate later at night than usual. This means you’re getting a distorted view on the scale the next morning because there’s still food in your stomach. You shouldn’t care about that because it’s food. It’s not bodyfat. - And lastly, you might need to take a dump. Go take a shit and step on the scale again. Boom 1-2-3 lbs lost. Nobody cares about that weight. - Main take-away of this post: The scale is a good progress measurement tool, if you know how to use it. Unfortunately most people don’t know how to use it. Not every week is going to be easy... I started this week with a POSITIVE attitude and was so ready to have more great results like week 1. 🌟 During the week I try hard to avoid dine outs, stick to my healthy meals, drink water, sleep well, and stay moving. Well this week had something else in mind for me... 🌟 Yesterday my car died on my way to work and when my dad and husband fixed it I took them out to dinner. Tonight while I was about to prep dinner my brother called me and asked me to meet him out for dinner. On the way there my grandpa called me and I offered to take him to dinner this week. 🤷♀️ 🌟 This week is not going as planned and it’s going to be hard to eat healthy, drink enough water, and get in every workout. Hard but not impossible! 🌟 Life happens and family is #1 but my health is still a priority too. So I have my alarms set to do my workouts at 6:00am on the days I need to, I have healthy breakfasts and lunches packed for the rest of this week, and I have water bottles filled and ready to go. Like I said, this week will be hard but NOT IMPOSSIBLE. I will not give up and I’ll take what life throws at me and do the best I can to stay on track because it’s worth it ✨💜

I wasn’t going to post this picture. 💭My tummy’s not perfectly flat 💭My eyes look squinty 💭My legs look too big 💭Blah blah blah…cut the bullshit Why do we do this to ourselves? I KNOW I’m not the only one. We zoom in and find every imperfection & tear ourselves apart. What’s wrong with loving our body and embracing each “imperfection” as they are. 👉🏼The truth? I’ve been focusing on enjoying the shit out of life lately. I have been living completely in the moment. I have put a huge focus on my friends, family and relationships. 👉🏼And with that? With that comes more meals out. With that comes less hours spent in the gym, and more hours spent on quality time with family & friends. 👉🏼This is the season of my body. I’m healthy. I still workout 5x per week. I still eat 70-80% nutrient-dense foods. I still take my vitamins & read books & listen to podcasts & do daily gratitude. I’m still living a healthy lifestyle. And when I reflect on all of the above, I can confidently say that.. 👉🏼This body represents FREEDOM. It may not be the smallest, lightest or leanest, but it’s happy. And it’s healthy. And how could I ever complain about that? 💭What does your body represent?

When you look at the nutrition facts label, what exactly should you be looking for? ⬇️ . . The answer... A LOT. . . With that being said, it can be quite overwhelming so for now, let’s just start with the serving size. . . Note in May 2018 the FDA required some changes and the new labels’ serving size is no longer a suggestive serving, but rather a reflection of what the average American usually consumes. . . For example: the serving size of most ice cream containers used to say 1/2 cup but now most of them say 2/3 cup. . . Does this matter? ...Somewhat. . . What actually matters? .... That you know everything listed below the serving size on the label is in that one serving. . . So if the serving size says 1/2 Cup (a size of a tennis ball 🎾) of your favorite @benandjerrys is 260 calories, 15g fat, & 23g of sugar, but you eat 1 cup (a size of a softball 🥎 ), then you’re actually eating double aka 320 calories, 30g of fat, & 46g of sugar 🤭. . . The take away? ... know what you’re eating then decide how much your portion should be dependent on your personal health goals! . . Need help or guidance? Is it safe to lose weight while pregnant? 🤰The short answer is yes. It’s ok to lose weight if you are overweight. I know I use to tell myself that I would do it after this pregnancy or when I’m done having kids. But it just gets harder with each one and you’ll continue to put it off. It’s never the wrong time to eat healthy and it’s ok to have treats. Self control and balance are key and everyone’s looks different.
Your health goals don’t need to consume your whole life👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 . It’s so easy to get totally caught up in the hustle towards your goals. You want to make s*** happen and get serious, so you buckle down. Make the workout schedule. Prep the food. Follow a bunch of accounts that are supposed to inspire you. Spend your time flipping through articles that tell you the best way to totally crush your health goals. Spend all your waking energy focused on where you are going. It might even feel good at first, knowing you are putting in your all. . But here’s the thing: it doesn’t have to be so all-consuming. You don’t have to put every thought and ounce of energy you have into it. You get to live your life. Have balance. Allow your attention and energy to flow to many areas of your life, not just your health goals. Focus when you need to while also making space for play and fun. Not only will the process be WAY more enjoyable, but you won’t burn yourself out and quit a month in. . Creating lifelong, vibrant health is an ongoing process. It should be a piece of the puzzle, not the entire picture. Not going all in 24/7 doesn’t mean you won’t get where you want to go, it just means you get to have a whole lot more fun getting there ❤️

Training them is a love hate relationship because you feel you're working them so hard, trying to grow them a few inches wider, and they grow like a cm at a time. With that being said, they can and do grow given you do the right things. One of those things comes to exercise selection. When you ask someone what exercise they think they should do to grow their biceps, their initial reaction is biceps curls. I mean, it isolates the biceps, is a very easy exercise to perform and is super easy to progress in (literally pick up the next set of weights on the rack). That being said, it is an isolation exercise meaning it stimulates very little hormonal output and doesn't overload the body and put it in an optimal state for anabolic growth. Another exercise you may hear a lot about is chinups which are unreal for the biceps. They are also a compound exercise which means good hormonal output and they develop the core as well. The only issue with chinups is that most people can only do one or two and that's about it so there really isn't enough of volume for growth. As to which exercise is better, I personally prefer chinups and progressing to be able to do more and more of them and eventually add weight. With that being said, I also think their is a use for biceps curls, but it is for ancillary work. There are few to no people that should be doing biceps curls in place of other pulling compound exercises like rows and chinups. What do you think? Let me know below!

“Sam, I’m eating no more than 1000kcal, and not losing weight.” . What can I do? . 99% of people WOULDN’T need to eat under 1000 kcals to lose weight, meaning, if you think you are.... . ...you’re probably not. . But more likely, misreporting what you are tracking to. . The large majority of people despite “thinking” are consuming (X) are consuming more. . Subconsciously or consciously there’s more calories being consumed that you think. . There’s even study’s looking into the margin of error in what people track to what they consume. . Highlighting the fact people, in most situations eat more than they say they are. . Which is only going to throw your figures when it comes to fat loss. . With my clients, in most environments, if it has calories, you track it. . ❌No “free food” ❌No “eat as much veg as you want” ❌No, “you don’t need to worry about drinks” . Because if it’s got calories, it’s going to contribute to your overall daily intake. . So while you can still include the likes of dressings, oils, sauces, and milk into your day, just account for what you are consuming. . As it can all add up. . And in most situations be the difference between you losing weight. . And not.

Looking back and now, gather bit and pieces. To train like a bodybuilder, wasn’t easy at all for first time when first started training. The constant pressure that your body undergo pain and stress to absorb and develop new growth. The commitment that’s follows, where at times. You will be alone, sitting on the bench. A moment of self reflection, questioning yourself. It’s worth it going through. After years and years of working really hard. This recent photo is something, I should be really proud off and to look back, that i did accomplish and make some changes in my life, bodybuilding sports has change my life. I believe that regardless where you stand, as long you had decided to take first step and place yourself in such positioning. You are already winner and you are going to win. Putting the strong mindset in mind and soul, discipline, determination and the willpower to conquer, to remind yourself 24/7. Not to give up so easily especially.
