@bluehouseyard: a great example of #placemaking in Wood Green, London, UK. Designed by @jankatteinarch in collaboration with @meanwhile_space | Other collaborators & partners: @haringeycouncil @structuremode @collegenelondon @ldn_gov @mayorofldn | Self-builders: @alicefarls @joshmurr @james.green.uk @charliealastairredman From their website: Blue House Yard will deliver the following workspace opportunities: * ‘Worksheds’ at Blue House Yard - Flexible spaces best suited to users who want to make and potentially sell. * Studios at Blue House Yard - Studio and office spaces for creatives and entrepreneurs ranging from 4sqm to 25sqm * Events at Blue House Yard - Space which will be made available for people who want to run and attend outdoor events * Bus Cafe at Blue House Yard - A double decker bus transformed into a café @cakesandladders (our note: and a pub 🍻 @earth_tap1) with seating internally and in the yard. A chance for a food start up to test the idea they’ve always wanted to try out without taking on the risks associated with a high street unit. * All spaces will be let on a fair rent policy with prices being set between 50-80% of market value, on flexible terms and with no up front deposits. Combined with a people-focused approach this will create impacts varying from retail incubation opportunities, business growth, job creation, to a new community and cultural events venue * Blue House Yard will be a friendly, inclusive, multi-disciplinary and experimental collection of workspaces for local people. They are the ones that fill the spaces with life - from start-ups to social entrepreneurs or creatives making it their place of work. * It will also be a place that residents and workers in the area will make use of to meet others and discover things being produced by tenants and other space users. * After the meanwhile use period is over the site will be redeveloped by London Borough of Haringey.
How about that 2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣8️⃣ eh?! I got the shit kicked out of me, and it came from places I wasn’t expecting either. On the upside, and if we truly buy in to believing that things happen for a reason, the future started to 🎨 itself and clarity soon arrived in the form of the next 🚀! - I know we all have New Years resolutions, and most of us break them, let’s be real! An activity I’ve preferred both professionally and personally over the last few years, although this is the first year I am seriously applying it practically, is “what is your word for the year?” - For 2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣9️⃣ I have chosen the word ‘Habit’ for a variety of reasons, but the most important one is I tend to be more organized professionally than I am personally, and I want that to change. Habit formulation can play a big part in addressing the problems I’ve faced in the past, so I’m diving deep into habit this year. - Would love to hear if anyone else has completed this activity for themselves, and if so, what your word is and why? Also, anybody who is interested in habits and how to build good ones, would be great to share and collaborate (reading lists, talking amongst ourselves, recommendations etc) - I’m always open for communication and sharpening the sword together. ⚔️
I don’t even recognize myself anymore - yesterday I actually enjoyed a 5 hour cycling tour around Bogotá with Giovanni from @bogotabiketours 😱 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Jokes aside it was actually really good, on the tour we: - learnt a lot about the history of Colombia and Bogotá - visited a cute little coffee shop and saw them roasting their own coffee - saw some really incredible street art - tried lots of weird and wonderful Colombian fruits that I’ve never heard of before at a local food market - finished by playing a game called Tejo which involved drinking beer whilst trying to throw a heavy metal disc at a board of clay with the aim of making these tiny white triangles explode, which I did! 💥
Tayrona National Park in Colombia 💙 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The beaches here are absolutely beautiful and like something out of Jurassic Park. If you like hiking and mud this is the place for you right now, because you have to earn these views. However there is an alternative to hiking for those like myself that aren’t super keen on trudging through muddy jungle and streams - horse riding, which was a lot of fun. 🐎
No resting beach face here... only smiles of surprise! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This time last week I was having the absolute best time learning to surf in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Would 100% recommend, especially Roland and Johan at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp who were amazing teachers!
So La Fortuna was really pretty, I just picked the wrong time to go as the weather was pretty naff. Here’s some pics of me standing in front of Arenal Lake and Arenal Volcano, which happens to be covered in cloud 🤷🏼♀️ After ‘hiking’ up to the base of the volcano I went to chill at Baldi Hot springs resort which was beautiful👌🏽Would definitely recommend, just don’t go in low season!!
