I am filled with gratitude this morning after teaching at #fitinthecore Sunday morning at 10am at the Burlington Performing Arts Center representing @440_fitness!! What to do when negative thoughts come up? Funny story: Yesterday my son came outside after watching TV and I said sarcastically, "Thank you for gracing us with your presence." 😮😶😳 As I was saying it, my inner voice was going "Um, where is THAT coming from? That doesn't sound like you!" And now thinking on it, I'm sure it came from a time when I watched too many 80s movies and the impression that stayed in my mind was that that was supposed to be a cool phrase. Meanwhile, my intellect is going, "Duh. He actually IS gracing you with his presence You are as lucky as hell to have a beautiful being in your life like him!". So, what to do? Thoughts WILL bubble up from the subconscious. Sometimes they are obviously not aligned with your higher, thinking mind, and you notice them, like in this case. Most of the time, because we live mostly on autopilot, and they are not so obvious, they go unnoticed. So what to do? The first step is to practice awareness, so there is more noticing. Any activity that has you watching the mind is helpful. Meditation and practicing yoga poses with awareness for example. Step two is to place a new positive thought in place of the negative one - to increase the balance of positive thoughts in your mind ocean. For example, "He IS gracing me with his presence. Every person's presence is a grace in my life whether it is enjoyable or not." Step 3 - repeat, repeat, repeat This watching and restructuring the mind is what most of my daily "yoga" practice is. But is it? In fact, one of my favorite things about yoga is that it's not just about the physical. Yoga fosters mental calm, discipline, and relaxation, in addition to building strength and flexibility. As we seek to find balance in one aspect, in my experience, it starts to affect the rest of the "whole." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As such, today's yoga practice may be a metaphor for life. There are many challenging postures in this practice, and you very well might fall out of them... but just get back in. Try again. Seek balance, but don't always expect it.

But I also know I have limits that I haven't currently reached yet, or may never reach, period.🆗️ Sometimes I look at a pose and think, "Well I can get half way there but I can't go all the way." I assume this without even trying. I am not pushing myself in order to find out those limits, just with that one assumption. 🧐⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ I commented on another yogi's post who did a stunning King Hanuman (full split, king variation) and told her that I have been wanting to try this but have been hesitant. I can’t believe that it is 1 year today that I taught my Yoga Teacher Training Exam Class. The last 12 months has been amazing - teaching all different styles of yoga classes, qualifying in Yoga Trapeze, creating workshops and meeting the wonderful people that come to the studio every day. I continue to be blown away by the people I meet at the studios and it can only be described as an honour to teach. SPACE🌐 It is interesting to observe, how in our societies, the answer to "how are you?" is in a commonly "busy" (happy? Healthy? Balanced?) Do we think we must be busy? Would we allow ourselves to not be? Do we feel others would judge us negatively if we are not? The opposite concept is SPACE. We all know that space in our home is not infinite, eventually we need to clear some of our old clothes, belongings, etc to be able to store our new and fresh acquisitions. Isn't it the same for our inner space? It is! Yoga is that small space of time when you pause. This pause creates space, that makes you calmer, and that gives opportunities for new thoughts to reach you. Give yourself yoga, gives yourself space. Going head first into the week like .... • Feeling great this Monday morning, full of energy and ready to get things done. I had made 1 small change and it’s had a big impact. I’ve cut down to just 1 coffee first thing in the morning and I don’t have anything caffeinated after 12pm. I use the Sleep Cycle app to track my sleep quality and since I’ve been doing it my amount of deep sleep has more than doubled. They have done experiments on this and found the same effects, even if you get to sleep ok after consuming caffeine, the quality of sleep isn’t as good which means you wake up tired and in need of coffee. A viscous cycle. I highly recommend experimenting to see if it helps you. • Happy Monday everyone!!!

Today I would like to share about how dangerous is to try do practice something your body is not ready - or because your own anatomy - it might be difficult and dangerous - for you. The femur’s head is a “ball” that fits on a “socket” on hip bone, which is called acetabulum. We can have little or big differences in how they fit together, or how the ligaments that hold them are placed too. Without going to much into anatomical analysis, a huge range of movement - due a number of reasons - might not be possible to all. AND THAT IS OK. You need to find your limit and work within those boundaries. It shouldn’t hurt. It can be uncomfortable to win movement in a such complex articulation - remember that main job of hips are WEIGHT BEARING and NOT SO MUCH big range of movement, so it might be slow, as it is a cluster of so many ligaments and groups of muscles. I have flexible hips, but not to all “directions” - I practice it with quite a lot of frequency as one - I like, two, it improves a lot my lower back ( I have a mild flat back) pain, and remember - it is through the hips that we “Acess” the spine - where our prana - or vital force - lives. We super enjoyed this year’s Cebu Yoga Fest and I’m very glad to have invited my friends over!! We may have had the toughest Inside Flow experience too. 🤭😂 Perhaps the best part was when we worked as a group on the Acroyoga class. WAKE UP. Our alarm goes off and we’re immediately checking emails and social media. We’re making breakfast and thinking about everything that needs to get done for the day. We’re driving to work, worrying about the meeting we have. We sit at our desks, contemplating how we should plan out our weekends. We eat lunch with our faces buried in our phones, comparing. We drive home, worrying about that big project coming up. We get home and eat dinner, again, faces buried in our phones, sitting next to another person, yet not really talking about anything significant or meaningful. We go to bed, wishing we’d done a workout or feeling angry that we didn’t accomplish as much as we could have that day. Wake up, repeat. WAKE UP!!! We live our lives in a blur! Not really present, but merely going through the motions. Day in and day out. Months pass us by without us even stopping to take a breath.. to taste our food.. to smell the flowers.. to listen and appreciate our loved ones. MYJ: Yoga helped me to make friends YogiTemples works with and meets many people from across the spectrum who are interested in making the most of yoga for their own benefit. However, we often hear stories from yogis just like us; stories about how they got into yoga. Our most recent Yoga Journey is one that stood out to us, and we thought we’d share it with our fellow yogis! As someone who spends a lot of time hiding away from the world, making friends has never been easy. From a young age, I found it hard to bond with others. My sense of humour, and my sense of perspective, long seemed to clash with those around me. Even my family, who I believe love me dearly, would find me straining at the best of times. It’s hard to change the very fundamental fabrics that make up who you are, though. That’s why, for me, it was so easy to learn about yoga. I found it relatively easy to stay physically fit, but I would probably spend a bit too much time in my own head. Such was my inability to make friends, I would join running and cycling clubs – and then spend all of my afternoon with my headphones in! It was hard to talk to people. My interests were often very particular, and my opinions often different to what people want to hear. Some believe I perhaps suffer from a social anxiety condition; given I often clam up a soon as I need to talk with someone, or say the wrong thing, perhaps they had a point. One day, though, I was on one of my local walks with a few associates. One of them, who clearly liked me but found me a bit odd, turned around said: “Why don’t you try some yoga?” It came from nowhere. I looked at them quizzically, as if to gesture that they should explain themselves. And so they did: “Yoga is great for people who hate talking…it opens you up a bit. You know, socially.” I looked into it, partly wondering how I could disprove them. However, it all seemed to check out. Yoga, I was told, helps to stimulate something known as oxytocin,
I am not one to post quotes in captions all the time but whenever I get into a yoga pose (or try to), I can finally make sense of Alan Watts' words and teachings in a much more complex and yet simpler way than reading those words. So here goes: 'The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.'

Don’t be fooled by instagram. Nobody sticks to every good intention they send out. Nobody has a perfect routine where they feel accomplished everyday. Nobody is perfect. Honestly, I’ve been rarely practicing yoga. I’m so out of it now that just doing ten minutes at a time feels a bit sticky. I love yoga and came to it because it feels incredible. Without expecting, its helped with my neck pain and definitely levels out my emotions. So if you feel like you’re slacking with a habit. I encourage you to give it ten minutes of your day today.
