'STORM BOY' NON-SPOILER REVIEW: 8 🇦🇺 / 10 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Director Shawn Seet's modern retelling of Colin Thiele's classic Australian story [1st made into a movie in 1976] is different to the original but still similarly as poignant. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Michael Kingley, a successful retired businessman in his late 60's, has yet to vote on whether a piece of Aboriginal land should be sold to developers when he starts recalling images from the past of his time as a young boy growing up on the isolated '90-Mile Beach' with his dad, Hideaway Tom. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tom, working as a sole fisherman, had withdrawn from society [with Michael] after his wife & daughter had died in a car accident. Despite their isolation, Tom is vigilant on home-schooling his son, much to the chagrin of the local townsfolk who feel that Michael needs a proper education. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Madeline, Michael's grand-daughter, is angry that the Aboriginal land deal may go ahead & tries to convince her grandfather to block the sale. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, Michael starts recounting to Madeline his long-forgotten childhood experiences with his dad; in particular, the story of how he rescued & raised 3 orphaned pelicans [after their mother had been killed by hunters] with the help of Fingerbone Bill, a local Aboriginal man. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When the pelicans grow to maturity, Tom insists that they return to the wild but Mr Percival, the pelican that Michael had formed the closest bond with, returns after being released & ends up having a profound effect on both their lives. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Finn Little, who plays the young Michael, does a fantastic job in his 1st movie role & Trevor Jamieson is great in the supporting role of Fingerbone Bill. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But it is Jai Courtney who is superb in his role of the tortured Hideaway Tom; his need to be left alone conflicts with his need to take care of & educate Michael. Ultimately, a decision that he makes changes their

I have a film that’s currently in post production. I’m currently growing out a goatee for another film that I’ll be starring in and I will be rolling into a 3rd film right after that. I’ve been wanting to take my acting to the next level and joining “Sunday Actors” at Higher Elevation Studio has been one of the best things I’ve done in 2019. I’ve been meeting a lot of great people and the acting techniques and analysis that I get from the class is priceless. Be sure to check this place out!
