Today was #crosstraining day! Coach @kyle_j_kranz assigned Gambetta leg circuit which I love to take outside whenever possible. So, #gyzmo and I went on a two mile walk so he could #smellallthethings then I found a perfect spot for my circuit.
Is chafing a sign of hard effort, or just that my legs are getting stronger?💪🏼😅 . Epiphany during today’s treadmill-hillz workout. 6 repeats of 6->4% incline, at 7:45 + 8:05 paces. I was intimidated. . Initially, I told myself, ok, just try to at least make it through 3 repeats. And then it hit me: WHY am I limiting myself already, before I even start??? Why am I letting the fear of the unknown — of how I “might not” be able to get through the workout — already dictate how my workout will go? WHY CAN’T I ASK, WELL, LET’S JUST SEE HOW MANY I CAN DO? . I know ppl often say that in order to truly flourish as a runner, you need to believe in yourself, or believe that you CAN do it, but honestly, I’ve found that it’s a pretty intangible concept that’s difficult to apply, until you actually GET OUT THERE and put in the WORK to try! . I need the hard evidence, the data, but guess what? That’ll never materialize if I keep letting fear make me safeguard and limit my potential! . Confidence, or, “belief,” is built upon the daily decision to put fear in its place, and the willingness to unleash your entire self, give ALL your effort into just TRYING ...and then seeing what happens! . So guess what?? I didn’t make it through all 6 repeats without dying, but I sure made it past 3!! (Finally had to slow down to a walk-recovery, after the 5th repeat.) . 8-miles, with game face on, and 💯effort. Will be needing some bandaids for those um, *ahem,* “Speed Burns,” but THAT is my #transformationtuesday.👊🏼👊🏼 . #carolyndreamsofboston#2019truthstoself

Another week, another #tracktuesday 👌 While I'm definitely not back up to speed, I feel like I'm inching closer and closer. Completed 5x1k this morning at 7:00 progressing down to 6:40, and 4x200s all over the board 🤷♀️ While I have to work on my consistency, I was happy to be out there chasing my teammates around the circle. There's just something about comradierie that keeps pushing you to do your best, whatever it may be that day 👊Progress not perfection, that's my mantra. I don't have any goal races on the calendar, and I just keep reminding myself of how lucky I am just to be running again🏃♀️💙 #1krepeats#speedworkdays#fastfriends#gettingbackintoit
40 more days until I attempt the sixth and final of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. I’m at 97% of my fundraiser for the AMAZING BHF. If you fancy forgoing to cost of your Starbucks today and donating to a worthy cause I’d be truly grateful! https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/NicolaGriceLondon
“In the end, she became more than she expected. She became the journey. Like all journeys, she did not end. She just simply changed directions and kept going.” - R.M. Drake 🖤🖤🖤 Grateful to have a diagnosis today. Orthopedist visit yesterday showed bursitis caused by trauma to the greater trochanter region. This means 6-8 weeks of healing... I’m confident that with the help of my sports med doctor and my coach, we can get me to the starting line in London next month. Cleared to run slow, easy miles, but time will tell all. I won’t let a stumble in the road (or a pot hole on Green Springs Highway!!!) be the end of my journey. Slowly I’m learning to embrace the journey and roll through the detours. Boston isn’t looking very promising, but I vow to be there for my friends who have worked so hard to toe that starting line in Hopkinton 💙💛💙💛Getting in the spirt of cheering my friends on in Boston by wearing my new @zensah Boston 2019 compression socks? How cute are they?!?!? Check out www.zensah.com to get my look 🦄 #diaryofaninjuredrunner#injuredrunner#zensahambassador#zensah
Another day, another 9.5 miles #runcommute (with intervals) ✔️ It was a beaut of a morning to be out running, it was so calm and tranquil along the beach and really gave me the headspace I’ve so desperately needed these last few weeks. I had intervals on the plan today and with no headwind to fight, it was perfect conditions to just get my head down and crack on and that i did! Consistency has definitely been the theme in this block of training and I’m really learning to tune into my body to fine tune those paces. I’m not going to say every run has gone to plan because it hasn’t but It’s certainly not going to stop me trying again. #beconsistent#keepshowingup#runhappy#runhappyteam @brooksrunninguk #happysocks#hearts#intervals#intervalrunning
There isn’t a thing running through your mind that you don’t allow to be there. • The two changes I planned to make after @tokyomarathon was to slightly increase my mileage and do more cross training to prepare for @bostonmarathon. • I added 6 easy miles today to catch up with @ironmantejada and enjoy the sunlight since I’m trapped inside all day. • Being mindful of pace, we kept it easy and chatty while we ran into the sunset. Loving these weekday sunlight miles.☀️ • 6.03mi | 50:49 | 8:27/mi
Hills 🏔 • Whether you love ‘em or hate ‘em there’s no denying that they make us stronger. Crushing hills forces us to work at the upper end of our aerobic capacity and even venture into anaerobic territory, all while tapping into those powerhouse legs and glutes. Think of them as a perfect tool to break through plateaus on longer efforts (think tempos and race pace intervals), with a bonus of a little undercover strength training as those legs build huge power while surging up that incline 💪🏼. • Not sure where to start with hills? My story has a simple workout to get those legs fired up! 🔥 • • • #hills#drills#runtoronto#runto#torontorunning#thesweatlife#morethanmiles#marathon#triathlon#run#running
You know what’s better than sticking to a diet? Being able to enjoy dinner with friends and family. _ You know what’s more magical than setting a new mile PR? Stopping to watch the family of deer in the forest. _ You know what feels better than forcing yourself to work out? Finding movement that helps you connect with yourself. _ You know what’s more important than your weight? You.
Got up and got it done on a Monday! I seriously debated sleeping in this morning. There are two things I consider when contemplating shutting off the alarm: does my body really need the extra sleep or am I just being “lazy” and pushing off my workout because I simply don’t want to do it. — I’m all about listening to my body so I would’ve slept in if I really needed to. But, I realized I was avoiding my workout because it was hard! Leg day with cardio bursts as rest just seemed too tough for a Monday! I got up and got it done anyways, and it felt good to push through the hard 👊 #keepshowingup — Quad-focused leg day 3 miles at 9:32 min/mile — Did you show up this Monday? — #strongoverskinny#womenwithmuscle#strongmom#instatraining#fitlife#liftingladies#momfitness#legdayworkout
“Hey, down there! Mr. Wind-Up Bird!” shouted May Kasahara. In a shallow sleep at the time, I thought I was hearing the voice in a dream. But it was not a dream. When I looked up, there was May Kasahara’s face, small and far away. “I know you’re down there! C’mon, Mr. Wind-Up Bird! Answer me!” “I’m here,” I said. “What on earth for? What are you doing down there?” “Thinking,” I said. “I don’t get it. Why do you have to go to the bottom of a well to think? It must be such a pain in the butt!” “This way, you can really concentrate. It’s dark and cool and quiet.” “Do you do this a lot?” “No, not a lot. I’ve never done it before in my life-getting into a well like this.” “Is it working? Is it helping you to think?” “I don’t know yet. I’m still experimenting.” From the novel The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami
We did it! First outdoor run in TO in LONG time!!! The ice has finally cleared from the sidewalks and it isn’t -100 out. Felt great to be back running and catching up with friends. Let’s keep this momentum going. #runningmoms#runto#morethanmiles#runhappy
Return to run. . When coming back to running, run OFTEN. Running is such a skill based sport there’s a reason the elites are running 6-10x/week. . If you play the piano (another high skill based activity) I’d recommend more practice sessions. . After you get your frequency up, than start adding strides. Strides are 20-30sec hard efforts that improve leg speed, strength and tendon resilience. Ideally they are done outside because a treadmill can pull you too far out of your comfort zone. Or conversely, not get you going fast enough. . Let’s build that base folks! It’s run season! . #fastandfitcoaching#run#lululemon#lululemonmen#morethanmiles#runcoach#onlinecoaching#strengthcoach#runningincircles#runstrong
It was great to get out for a 21.1 KM run on a spring-like St. Patrick’s Day after the week I had! Pace was good & sun felt nice, so now I’m ready to head into a new week. 🙌🏃♀️🍀 Did you do anything fun for St. Patrick’s Day?
That look, when you’re solo-parenting while also hosting houseguests x1wk, and squeezing in an 11-miler by piecing together childcare, playdates and dance class (there’s my little dancer in the background)!! MOTHERHOOD IN FULL GLORY, MY FRIENDS!! . Throw another wrench in the gears: make the first half of the run, a TRAIL RUN, SURPRISE! 😅😭😭😭 since I only had a limited window to run, I decided to be “adventurous” and explore a path near Chloe’s dance school, not realizing it wasn’t paved and was, in fact, through some kind of woodsy-area. . 6miles of mud, uneven trail, slippery domes of ice mounds, ridiculous winds, and one clearly destroyed bird carcass later, I finally found my way back onto some main roads, and then had to freaking hustle back to the school, in order to make it to pickup in time. . [edit to add: actually ended up only running 10.5 miles, and then had to pick up both kids, get them home, set them up for lunch, tell them to set a 5-min timer on their Garmins and time me while I finished the last 0.5mi, running up & down our block]. . Legs were shredded (HOLY CRAP. TRAIL RUNNING IS EXHAUSTING.😳), feet soaked and muddied, but I negative-split an 11-miler for the first time ever.😂 . Does this make me a trail runner now? . #carolyndreamsofboston#flatearth
We are ONE MONTH away from our 3rd team launch in the #lowerhaight - we hope you will join us as our community grows on April 17th! #morethanmiles#team360 (P.S. We're moving to @backonmyfeet on Wednesday, don't forget to follow us there!)
ShamROCKED our long run.🍀 • Headed up to #basslake to search for leprechauns and hills. • Today’s perfect weather and literally running into JK and @ksburns05 who dropped water in the perfect spot, made today’s run the best! • Just under 50 miles for my first week of training back from @tokyomarathon putting miles in the bank now for @bostonmarathon. #hylandspowered • 13.2mi | 1:45:42 | 8:00/mi
I just ran my first negative split race ever!!! I’m over the moon!!! 🤩 It was so damn cold at the beginning but I told myself to keep it steady and before I knew it, I was flying past Times Square. I am SOOO excited for my marathon in April. Onwards with training 🏃♀️
Good morning! Look at this lovely weather ☀️☀️☀️ When I saw how nice it was out ... and how energetic (loud) the boys were after nearly 12 hours sleep ... I felt the need to get out for some fresh air ... so I actually went for a run! I drove to the coastal path with the aim of doing 20 minutes, but somehow I managed over 40 minutes and 3.5 miles! Although my Strava app failed and didn’t log half of it 😫 I might be as slow as a snail, but I did it! 🏃🏽♀️🐌🏃🏽♀️🐌
There goes the Aluminum, the antimony, the arsenic the barium, the cadmium, the cesium, the gadolinium the lead the mercury the nickel, the thalium, and the tin. Broken down pissed out. There goes those jobs, those times there goes those relations of inside and outside, of work and nerves and fat and soft tissue and synapses. There goes that set of relations inside and outside. There goes that body that use and surplus. From "In Memory of My Heavy Metal Years" by Jeff Derksen #funrun
