I’m having a “what’s it all about?” moment as I reflect on the role social media plays in my life. FB makes me sad. IG much less so. I think I’ll spend more time here. Thanks for listening. . #luddite #moresociallessmedia #prettypictures #autumn2018 #seachange
When kids unplug and try new things, their brain fires up, creating new neural pathways. Exploring the outdoors, it taps into all of their senses, creating stronger, healthier minds and bodies. Find out what summer camp in Maine can offer your child, link in bio. #mainesummercamps #summer2019
{When} you have a baby everyone tells you how quickly they grow up, at the time you may not believe it but as cliche as it sounds it's true. • Recently I’ve felt a pull away from social media. I realised that without even thinking about it I was obsessively attached to my phone, and most of that time around Archer. I would be doing something with him but not giving him my full attention and checking my phone or trying to take THE photo for the gram. • I was losing time with my son, who IS growing up so fast, for people I didn’t even know. Holding him in my arms while scrolling through Instagram and Facebook looking at other people’s kids and lives while I could have been staring at my own child soaking him in. • Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate social media. I get so much inspiration from it and do love to see what others share, but when your phone tells you that you've had 6 hours of screen time in one day you kind of gotta take a step back and think why?! • I’m not saying it’s wrong to check your phone when you’re with your kids but for me it was becoming this unconscious habit and started to feel like a problem for me. So I’ve been working on being conscious about how I use my phone especially when Arch is around. I’m trying to get into the habit of not having my phone attached to me all the time or not being obsessive about taking photos etc. Just trying to be present in the moment. • And as @dallashartwig says ‘more social, less media.' 💛💛💛

I'M BACK AFTER A 24 HOUR INSTAGRAM DETOX! And boy do I feel gooood!! . Here are some takeaways from the 24 hours I spent completely off of Instagram👇🏼 . I mindlessly scrolled way more than I thought I did. . I noticed I had an "urge" to grab my phone to scroll Instagram every time there was a little bit of a lull in my day - completely pulling me away from being PRESENT. . I got more shit done yesterday. Not because I wasn't wasting time scrolling through Instagram, but because I was present in MY OWN life. . Whether we realize it or not, when we repeatedly see the lives of others - what they're doing, what they're working on, what they're eating - it can clutter our own mind, even if we ensure our feeds are only filled with positive, uplifting, and inspiring accounts! . I am so happy I took those 24 hours off. I missed you guys, for sure, but I got a whole lot done yesterday and I'm so excited to share more with you! . For all of you who were interested in the business webinar I mentioned earlier this week, stay tuned because I'll be announcing the date and time very soon! . Who else took 24 hours off of social media in honour of #worldmentalhealthday? What did you discover? What were some takeaways for you? Let me know in the comments!👇🏼 . . .

Sure we’re a bit late to the punch on this one, but couldn’t help but give a shout to our newest Baby Bathwater member, Mr. @chriskresser, for a fine showing on the @joerogan podcast a few weeks ago. What’s the optimal diet for everyone? Chris explains “That’s a terrible question.” . Chris Kresser, M.S., L.Ac is a globally recognized leader in the fields of ancestral health, Paleo nutrition, and functional and integrative medicine. Dr. Joel Kahn (@drjkahn) is one of the world’s top cardiologists and believes that plant-based nutrition is the most powerful source of preventative medicine on the planet. Feelin this... #bepresent 🙏 #repost @createthelove (@get_repost) • • • Today, let’s use media to raise awareness for #worldmentalhealthday. • Tomorrow, let’s practice #moresociallessmedia and take a 24 hour break from ALL media to connect with our selves, our environments, and our closest people. • No social media (you can automate your posts!). No podcasts. No TV. No YouTube. No news. No Netflix. No music. • It's a challenge that comes from my homie @dallashartwig and I'm taking 24 hours off with him. • I noticed about three months ago that I was getting anxiety around my phone... I needed to renegotiate my relationship to technology... so, 24 hours might be pretty hard, right?! Most of us are more connected to media than we are to ourselves, our environments, to our partners, our friends, and/or our friend and family. • It also might not be as hard as it sounds. Maybe you'll meet your new significant other! Maybe you'll step back into the void of disconnection you've felt with yourself, your partner, your kids... your work, your passions. There are people in your world who want to connect in real life. There are things to discover RIGHT NOW. • This 24 hour challenge isn’t about ignoring the world. It’s about refocusing on the parts that matter... the space and people we have our cells dancing with in real life. • The ones we can feel, touch, play with, listen to, give space for, love and learn from up close. • And if we all start to do this together, to connect, see, and support each other in the real world … well, I think we’ll all start to feel better. Or we'll see the changes we need to make to do it and we can engage our lives instead of scrolling through them. • So try this: go 24 hours without ANY media. Be present with yourself, notice your environment, and give the gift of undivided attention to your people. Since i was about 20 I’ve struggled with severe anxiety. Prior to Kanon i can’t count the times i had anxiety attacks, hospital visits, talked to a therapist, and took medication. Opening up about this now is hard because it’s not something i was proud of but it was something that i knew i had to deal with and battle. People would say, “just breath” and “it’ll go away.” But.. it never did. To this day i still struggle with anxiety but the difference between pre-Kanon and now is that i refuse to take medication (unless I’m flying on an airplane then i make an exception 😂). I’ve found what works for ME. What works for me? Nature and working out. I have become a better me because I’ve found healthy outlets that let me focus on myself and i find comfort and safety in that. Being a mom and struggling with anxiety isn’t easy— but if you’re in the same boat, you’re NOT alone. Keep fighting, keep pushing, and keep looking anxiety in the eye because you ARE stronger than it. I’ve come a long way and each day i find ways to better myself. #worldmentalhealthday #moresociallessmedia #getoutside #anxiety
Attempting the 24 hour social media challenge #moresociallessmedia for #worldmentalhealthday. From midnight tonight, I will be taking a 24 hour break from my phone. Awareness for mental health is extremely important to me, as I have had my own struggles and know so many others who have as well. Since I basically live on social media, I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to take advantage of shutting off completely for a day. Let’s see if I can do it! 😂 oh and I took this shot walking home from work tonight, my city is so beautiful ❤️ #yyc #calgary #shutoff #mentalhealth

I’m going to attempt 24 hours tomorrow w no media in honor of #worldmentalhealthday2018. Let me know if you want to join me! Making plans today to hopefully be successful. Even though I love connecting with people through social media and my phone, I also love what @dallashartwig calls more social / less media and appreciate that taking conscious breaks and looking up from screens into eyeballs or into nature can help heal some of the broken parts of community that create cracks for humans to slip through when they need connection and support. Join me if you feel like it! #moresociallessmedia
On the heels of our last post (the cucumber phone 🙃), we fully support and spread @dallashartwig’s call to unplug tomorrow. Pls join us. And if your kids are in school, it’s sensible to be available just in case of an emergency. We get that! Or just play hookie with them. It's #worldmentalhealthday and you're going to see a lot of posts raising awareness about mental health. I encourage you to read each and every one because your mental health matters. . As an eating disorder survivor and someone who's battled both anxiety and depression, I work one on one clients on a regular basis to support them through their mental health journey. . Your mental health shouldn't be something that is left out of your complete health picture. Your mental health matters and I am here to support you through your journey, whether you're struggling or not. I am here for you. . That's what most of us with mental illness struggle with 👉🏼 feeling alone and I think today is an important day to make it very clear that so many of us struggle, which is why I encourage you to read each and every mental health post you see today. People who you would have assumed had it all together, will likely tell you they've struggled, too. . You are not alone on this journey and that is one of my missions in this beautiful life of mine 👉🏼 to let you know you're not alone. . So, soak up this mental health day. Raise awareness and read all of the posts that are in your feed today, but tomorrow is another story👇🏼 . Tomorrow I will be participating in @dallashartwig's #moresociallessmedia challenge and be absent on all social media for 24 hours. . Why is this important for your mental health? . The 24 hours of being social media free will allow you to be present within your mind, body, and soul. I truly believe social media can feed into mental health issues, so these 24 hour challenges of being social media free are incredibly beneficial. You can read @dallashartwig's post for more information about the challenge, too. . Who's joining me? I'll see you on Friday! . . .
