Are you unhappy with your body?  So many of my clients are. They’re convinced that they don’t have the right body shape or the right look.  At the extreme end, some of my anorexic clients are terrified that any weight gain will go to the wrong place, where it’s not supposed to. “It’ll all go to my stomach”, or “I’ll have thick thighs”, or “my breasts will be too big or too small”. Isn't this just a wonderful statement? . . More and more people today are getting diagnosed with depression and anxiety and other mental health issues. . . We should be helping our children as best we can to be the children they are supposed to be. My biggest regret as a parent is letting them have their Tablets to play games on.. because even though their time is limited, Jayden is constantly asking when he can play it, even when we are out for the day he still asks. . . I definitely blame myself for how angry and stressed he already gets because I allowed him to have one and its honestly made his anger something else. I have tried a lot of medications- from antipsychotics, antidepressants and mood stabilisers. The ones that make you increase your appetite and in turn make you gain weight. Especially when I was ‘stuck’ in the mental health ward, and all I could do is eat and sleep and repeat. I remember one of the first medications I tried was Rispiridone – this drug made me gain 10kg in a short span of two weeks. This has been one of my low points too – where I was put on constance by the doctors and had a nurse follow me around everywhere – the toilet, dining area, in my room – you get the picture. I was literally on suicide watch for 1 month. After that 1 month, I was off constance and was still in the hospital for 2 months.  I quickly grew in the mental health system and understanding it better and better after each admission – I think I lost count of how many admissions I have had to the mental health ward – but it’s definitely been at least 8 times. As each admission passed, I learn to know the ins and outs of the mental health hospital system – what to say, what not to say to the staff. And when I say that, I don’t  mean you be dishonest to the staff like for example, you were feeling suicidal and you had a plan in place but didn’t let the staff know so if they know they would make you have medications. I mean, be honest in a way that will help both yourself and staff understand each other. Speak in a way that was respectful and honest. 3/3  It took a couple of sessions for me to really trust her, but every session made me feel a little bit lighter in my mind and body. She wanted to send me to the actual therapist after the first session, but I didn’t want to. I wanted to keep talking to her and luckily she thought this was OK. Letting someone else that doesn’t know you take a look at your problems in an objective way can be really helpful. They can call you out on your bullshit, which can really hurt and be really uncomfortable, but it is really really really useful. If you are struggling with something and have been considering talking to someone about it, I highly suggest that you do. It can mean and make the world of difference. And it’s really important to remember that the lightness is never too far away. You just have to be willing to go looking! ❤️

A number of dietary supplements have been found to help ease the burden of depression, including:⠀ *⠀ St. John’s wort. There’s some scientific evidence this herb is useful for mild to moderate depression. However, a study co-funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) found that St. John’s wort worked no better than a placebo on depression of moderate severity.⠀ *⠀ SAMe. SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine) acts as a mild antidepressant, but can cause anxiety, says Novey.⠀ *⠀ Melatonin. The gland that makes melatonin in your body is turned on in the evening; that’s one reason why you may start feeling drowsy at night. When melatonin is taken as a supplement, the evidence is mixed on whether it helps insomnia and what dosage is most effective. There’s some evidence it can help people fall asleep faster, but Novey says it is short-acting and you might wake up after only a few hours of sleep.⠀ *⠀ Valerian. Often we do not accept ourselves or the situation and circumstances. At times, we are not ready to accept a rejection or when things do not go the way we want them to. You must have noticed that defying has never helped but increased the mental stress and pain. Remember that every situation may not go the way you want it to be. Not every person will behave with you the way you want them to. And it's okay! We cannot control everything as per our desire. If you really want to change something, you need to accept it the way it is. Then, you may think about changing it. Accept people and circumstances. My why: Like most mums I know who work for themselves, I do it so that I can balance my time and be with my family.  I also want to set an example for my children and show them that you can be successful at anything you want in life. I want to teach them that following your heart leads to happiness and fulfilment.  But more than that. I want them to grow up knowing that it’s normal to struggle sometimes. That we all have doubts, fears and difficult emotions and to not try to hide those feelings. I want them to know that there are people in the world who care about helping others and that their mum is one of them. I want them to know that they’re never alone no matter what they’re going through. I want them to grow up in a world without stigma, where reaching out for help and support when we need it is second nature.
