Tracking Tuesday!  These are my morning readings. I went off plan Sunday with keto so just getting back in the groove. I am going to test every few days to see if I am in ketosis. I did well yesterday but didn't have the energy I had Saturday. I need to increase my water intake. I also have been weighing daily and I was up a couple of pounds today which was discouraging but that's why I hate the scale. Such a mind game.  My hot flashes are messing with my sleep which is not good for overall health and the way I feel. I learned the trick of dipping a tea bag just 2-3 times into hot water for an extremely mild tea. While I drink a very diluted detox tea in the AM , decaf chamomile and mint tea are well tolerated with IC. . . . Giving up coffee can be hard especially if you need an afternoon pick me up. Drink water for hydration ( hard I know with bladder issues at times), Vitamin B12 for extra energy, a colorful diet of fruits and vegetables for natural energy. . . . Testosterone Tuesday! "Aren't testosterone pellets the next trendy thing?" I have recently heard this about pellet therapy, I literally laughed out loud!  First of all, what is a pellet? A testosterone pellet is testosterone compressed into a tiny grain of rice-like pellet that is inserted painlessly underneath the skin. The ones used in my office are not synthetic, they are plant based. They come specially made from a 503B compound pharmacy.  Wait... women need testosterone? CORRECT! Testosterone is not just for men, women especially need testosterone as well.  Testosterone is the dominant hormone in women.  In fact, women have about 20 times more testosterone than estrogen. All estrogen in women is synthesized from testosterone or a testosterone-like hormone. Without testosterone, there is no estrogen. ➡️In 2013, a 10-year study done in the United States showed that using testosterone alone, without any other hormone placement therapy, not only improved all symptoms of menopause in women, but also resulted in a substantial reduction in expected breast cancer rates. According to the study, use of testosterone pellets without estrogen or progesterone significantly improved patients’ quality of life and all symptoms related to menopause, including hot flashes, sleep disorder, depression, irritability, anxiety, physical or mental exhaustion, sexual and bladder problems, vaginal dryness, and joint and muscular discomfort. Relief of these symptoms was achieved without any major adverse drug effects, and most significantly, women experienced 50–70% reduction in expected rates of breast cancer. Despite the facts, testosterone replacement for women continues to be misunderstood BY EVERYONE (FAMLY DOCTORS, OBGYN, ENDOCRINOLOGIST, MEN, etc)  The simple truth is: there are ways for doctors and health-care providers to use hormone replacement therapy to not only safely manage menopause, but reduce the numerous health risks associated with aging. Magnesium is probably the number 1 mineral you’ve heard about the most. It’s a master mineral and is responsible for the correct metabolic function of over 350 enzymes in the body. There is emerging research that we are definitely not getting enough of it. In fact, research shows that many people are sub clinically deficient in magnesium, this becomes a problem because when magnesium levels are low, this can contribute and exacerbate many neuropsychiatric problems, including anxiety. Present research demonstrates the validity emerging evidence in humans that reduced magnesium levels are associated with different facets of anxiety behaviour.  So what do we do in order to ensure we can get enough magnesium?  I will always advocate food first, because if you are prioritising magnesium rich foods you will be prioritising a nutrient rich diet, this is at the heart of addressing anxious feelings. A nutrient dense diet will naturally go towards a way of eating that keeps blood sugar levels in balance and will be low in stimulating foods and beverages, key factors in regulating anxious episodes. Last weekend I did something amazing and stepped outside my comfort zone.  Tried something that I wasn't good at.  Tried something I hadn't really done before. With a group of women that I didn't really know. ⠀ ⠀ I did a mountain bike and paddle day event with @be_rad_adventures and did I ever have a ball!  I hadn't really rode a bike, certainly not through any challenging trails, since middle school.  I was N.E.R.V.O.U.S., but Sam and her be-rad team were amazing; so supportive and encouraging.  By the end of the event, because of their guidance and coaching, I was riding the bike through @Rockwoodparksj with more confidence.  Admittedly, I now have the mountain biking bug.  I also met some amazing women that I hope to see on the trails again!
